I haven't spoken to my mom is about 6 years. She was mentally and verbally abusive when I was a child, my gram and dad kept her from being physically abusive. When I was an adult she was still blaming me for her problems even though she was coming to me to fix them and I wasn't the one creating them. My final straw wasn't even when she tried to punch me in the face, she kept calling me and I was at work. I told her I was busy and couldn't talk so she called and called anyway. she left threatening voicemails and I saved them. i will listen to them when I feel like calling her so I can remind myself why I don't speak to her. It's not appropriate no matter how angry you are to tell your daughter you are going to "kick your ass", "kill you" or "sell you on the corner for $5 a turn". there is no excuse for that. I was done. in the years since I feel so much better. When stress and drama happens i can handle it i no longer feel like the world is ending when something goes wrong. Sadly some people aren't meant to be parents but are. My mom is bipolar and unmedicated so she acts like a "karen" and thinks her behavior is totally acceptable. A lot of people don't put in the effort it takes to be a good parent and place their expectations on their child. My mom expected me to be exactly like her and if I didn't like something she liked or didn't agree with her I was being a spoiled brat or I was stupid. With the celebs, they are talented but that doesn't make them great at everything, you can be exceptionally good at 1 thing and suck at everything else.

not all parents are like you though. many suffer from mental illness and or narcissism and don't see their own flaws. I don't speak to my mother because she's abusive and I got to the point where i couldn't take it anymore. as the kid, we want loving parents, we seek it out but when we constantly get rejected or the mental abuse is too much we leave. much like ending a domestic violence situation, some children need to leave their parents and it's hard because you desperately want them to love you but then you realize they never will treat you the way they should. society pushes kids to keep accepting abuse and never pushes the parents to do better, to get help for their issues or to love unconditionally, there are some parent's that just have conditions and you'll never live up to them.
I am so glad I had the parents i had. I believe they loved me no matter what I did and I put them through a lot. And I was adopted at five years old but they always were there for me. I had a man's child to raise by myself, but I did think he would stay in touch, if only out of curiosity. We did speak by phone a couple of times, but he clearly didn't want to know anything about his son. Some men are just cold in that way, to an extent the rest of us can't understand. My son (now 33) has just met his father for the first time - a one-off meeting. He told his father "I can't imagine doing what you did".

yes. I don't speak to my mom, she has mental illness, bipolar, and refuses medication and thinks she's perfect. I think she's also a narcissist but that wasn't something people were diagnosed with when she got her initial diagnosis. she twists everything so nothing is ever her fault and blows up at people and I got tired of bailing her out and then being blamed when things went wrong again. I got to the point where I was ready to cut her out but people kept telling me, but she's your mom you have to love her. OMG, no you don't. they didn't see how abusive she was and I wasn't even a kid at that point. After she threatened me and my upcoming marriage I was done. my hubby is the best guy i've ever met and is wonderful to me, she was threatening to ruin that over something petty and not even my fault. I was like, have a nice life i'm out. it was easier at that point as well because we didn't live in the same state. Now if I have to tell her anything (relatives dying or something like that) I use my cousins email, she likes him and is always nice to him, she has no idea it's me and I'm ok with that. she's missing out on her adorable grandson all because she is stubborn and refuses medication she knows she needs. there's always a reason...there's always tons of reasons, we don't chose to go NC over petty arguments and small disagreements, it's years of pain and build up. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar for over 10 years due to DID mimicking the symptoms of bipolar. I was an international adoption. I experienced severe trauma before the age of 2 that fragmented my psyche and created alters. My dad's wife had this fantasy if she loved me enough everything would be okay. Then I started showing signs of mental illness (DID) at age 6 after another major trauma in my life. My protector identity presented. My dad's wife physically, emotionally, and verbally abused me my entire childhood which resulted in my protector alter being out 90% of the time. She saw my dad's wife as a threat and fought to protect me. Eventually my dad's wife completely withdrew from me effectively leaving me without a mother. She hasn't been a mother to me for over 20 years. I consider her having one daughter, my sister who's biological. She was a good mother to my sister and loved my sister because my sister was "normal". Well my sister didn't live in an orphanage in the 80s where they brutalized the children to having lifelong mental/physical disorders.

It’s really hard to tell sometimes unless you are actually close to the matter whether it’s actually parental alienation and one parent has poisoned the child’s mind against the other parent, or if the other parent just isn’t seeing reality and it was their own actions and behaviour that pushed them away. It seems to me that if you were being a good parent it would be hard to alienate a child against you (not impossible) unless you had some real toxic behaviours that backed up what the other parent was saying. Sometimes the other parent doesn’t even say anything but the other parent is so toxic the kids work it out on their own and make the decision themselves. I’m sure there are some legitimate cases but I think for the most part the other parent is often a completely unaware narcissist that is just unable to see how their own bad parenting has alienated their child from them and the blame the other parent because they can’t take accountability for themselves. That being said sometimes the child themselves are entitled narcissists. There are plenty of parent who were great parents that have good relationships with all their kids except for one who is complete assh*le.

My son (now 33) has just met his father for the first time - a one-off meeting. He told his father "I can't imagine doing what you did".

As someone who went no contact with a mother who ab*sed me my whole childhood through adulthood for not being "normal" (ie having mental illness as a child) there's probably a reason these children went no contact. Children don't just go no contact for no reason. There's always a reason.
yes. I don't speak to my mom, she has mental illness, bipolar, and refuses medication and thinks she's perfect. I think she's also a narcissist but that wasn't something people were diagnosed with when she got her initial diagnosis. she twists everything so nothing is ever her fault and blows up at people and I got tired of bailing her out and then being blamed when things went wrong again. I got to the point where I was ready to cut her out but people kept telling me, but she's your mom you have to love her. OMG, no you don't. they didn't see how abusive she was and I wasn't even a kid at that point. After she threatened me and my upcoming marriage I was done. my hubby is the best guy i've ever met and is wonderful to me, she was threatening to ruin that over something petty and not even my fault. I was like, have a nice life i'm out. it was easier at that point as well because we didn't live in the same state. Now if I have to tell her anything (relatives dying or something like that) I use my cousins email, she likes him and is always nice to him, she has no idea it's me and I'm ok with that. she's missing out on her adorable grandson all because she is stubborn and refuses medication she knows she needs. there's always a reason...there's always tons of reasons, we don't chose to go NC over petty arguments and small disagreements, it's years of pain and build up. I'm glad you went NC for your own sanity. everyone deserves peace in their life.

One of my favorite actors has bipolar. He's been a great resource to learn about bipolar and from reading his Instagram posts about life with the disorder I can't imagine life with him is easy. I have Dissociative Identity Disorder (professionally diagnosed in Aug' 22) which is very often misdiagnosed as bipolar. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar for over 10 years due to DID mimicking the symptoms of bipolar. I was an international adoption. I experienced severe trauma before the age of 2 that fragmented my psyche and created alters. My dad's wife had this fantasy if she loved me enough everything would be okay. Then I started showing signs of mental illness (DID) at age 6 after another major trauma in my life. My protector identity presented. My dad's wife physically, emotionally, and verbally abused me my entire childhood which resulted in my protector alter being out 90% of the time. She saw my dad's wife as a threat and fought to protect me. Eventually my dad's wife completely withdrew from me effectively leaving me without a mother. She hasn't been a mother to me for over 20 years. I consider her having one daughter, my sister who's biological. She was a good mother to my sister and loved my sister because my sister was "normal". Well my sister didn't live in an orphanage in the 80s where they brutalized the children to having lifelong mental/physical disorders.

it makes me so mad that these celebs who are so lucky to have children, are not in contact with them and instead, abandon, or neglect them for stupid reasons (like Tom Cruise abandoning Suri just because she’s not a Scientologist) while I would do anything to have a child to love and care for, and yet because of medical issues & life circumstances, including finances, I will never be able to be a mommy in any way, shape or form.

It’s really hard to tell sometimes unless you are actually close to the matter whether it’s actually parental alienation and one parent has poisoned the child’s mind against the other parent, or if the other parent just isn’t seeing reality and it was their own actions and behaviour that pushed them away. It seems to me that if you were being a good parent it would be hard to alienate a child against you (not impossible) unless you had some real toxic behaviours that backed up what the other parent was saying. Sometimes the other parent doesn’t even say anything but the other parent is so toxic the kids work it out on their own and make the decision themselves.
I’m sure there are some legitimate cases but I think for the most part the other parent is often a completely unaware narcissist that is just unable to see how their own bad parenting has alienated their child from them and the blame the other parent because they can’t take accountability for themselves.
That being said sometimes the child themselves are entitled narcissists. There are plenty of parent who were great parents that have good relationships with all their kids except for one who is complete assh*le.
