UE4 FFXI Prototype - Combat Gameplay and Extras

- This is a single player proof of concept project I made throughout 2017. Haven't had much time this year to work on it at all, but I wanted to finally share a bit of it. Shows some gameplay footage of BLM and MNK with some extra running around to show the zones and extras I added into it.
Runs 100% independent of a ffxi install, completely in native UE4. It has glaring and typical newbie issues that you would expect, but considering I knew nothing about anything when I started, I'm happy with how it turned out. Much work to do...Looking for master server architect...
Music in the zones is from FFXI and FFXIV, made by Nobuo Uematsu and others.

Getting some new comments about this recently. Life has been rough last handful of years for everyone. This project isn't my focus right now, but I would love to get back into it after a few more years. Thanks for all of the support and keep gaming.

This is a very impressive proof of concept. Can't help but marvel at how more freedom of movement would greatly benefit gameplay (because FFXI has animation locks up the wazoo), in addition to that UI. Great job!

I'd love to help with this. Do you have any GitHub or anything ? Does this currently connect to retail or is this purely single player? Can it be made to work with an actual server?
Purely single player. Doesn't rely on any outside ffxi install or anything. 100% standalone. It can definitely be made to work with a dedicated server setup, but this particular project was just a proof of concept. The code will need rebuilt to work with a server, but once the assets are converted they can all be used again. I haven't released it publicly, only a few friends have the game install

@@JohnLeighow Thanks, but it wouldn't be possible to integrate this into the Darkstar project. Darkstar still uses the OEM client, and this is completely standalone in UE4, so there would be no way to mesh them, nor would it be desirable. The server would need to be built up from scratch. That being said, very interested in accomplishing that, but I'd have a few years of server studying to do before I embark on that journey.

The UI is amazing. I like that controller UI, but I like the name of the Macro on it instead of icons. How does the menu work if UP/DOWN directional buttons don't work with the UI? Thanks for doing such awesome work to FFXI.
I had a hard time with the UI since I was so new at doing all of this last year. The menus only worked with a mouse, as I didn't code any gamepad focus on them, but the hotbar used for gameplay was triggered using essentially the ffxiv gamepad control scheme with the button combos to activate the skills. The main menu held all of the abilities and you could drag and drop them onto the bar as you please. And yes, ffxi has too many possible skills to have icons for everything, so it certainly took some getting used to.
Man...this hurts. I want to play this, but I don't think there's much hope.

@@kxteeldragoone if there's interest in checking it out I may be up for that, long as your server admin approves of course. The game right now is packaged, lvl 1-20 is playable with the first 6 jobs and a "special" subjob quest to unlock the custom area and rakaz which has some lvl 75 math testing activities, which I think turned out to be kinda fun.

Most of what you are seeing was extracted from the original .dats, minus the extra zone you see at the beginning and some of the particle effects. If you still play though, I recommend checking out the FFXI HD Mods channel. ua-cam.com/channels/KJ4a33wIHWadqXW7SP87aQ.html
The person that runs that channel mods the original .dats then re-packages them to be used in the original game. They do fantastic work.

Hey, that's really cool to hear. I know about Darkstar for sure. A lot of people ask about integrating this with DSP, but I just can't see it happening. Hats off to you guys for the years you've put in.
Looks nice but I hate the FFXIV UI. FFXI macros are way better imo.
