My grandpa fought in Vietnam as a tunnel rat. He loved his job and cleared out more holes than he could remember. After getting 3 purple hearts and a couple other medals he went AWOL after he walked away from Fort Knox to see my mother be born. I don't comment often anymore but I wanted to mention this. I lost my grandpa recently and this video made me think of him, loved that man.

Only 25% of all total military personnel were drafted into the Vietnam war, which instantly invalidates the misconception that everyone was drafted. Most people volunteered to seal their fate willingly, rather than get drafted. This is what my Uncle did, serving as a Marine.

My father and I took my Vietnam veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. several years ago for the 1st time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in the late 1960s, and he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home and received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names and where they were located on the wall. And as he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, and live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.

I have an uncle that is a Vietnam vet. I wouldn't dare ask him what he went through and I had to cancel my series recording of MASH while he was visiting. I remember the first 28 years of my life he never smiled. He always frowns in photos and videos on any occasion. It wasn't until my mother had a heart-attack that something clicked in my uncle's head. He grabbed his wife, my mother's sister, took a train and went on their way from California to Texas to make sure my mother was ok. At first, I was scared of him cause I didn't know how to talk to him. But when I saw him smile for the first time and that he and his wife took great care of my mother while she was recovering, I wasn't scared anymore. I still didn't dare ask him about the war, but I didn't care anymore. I finally had a normal conversation with him. All he asked for returned was to leave the lights on at night to keep his PTSD at bay and I made sure the house never goes dark wherever he sleeps. After mom was better and the 2 had to go home, for the first time ever my uncle and I hugged for the first time. There were no tears, no sobbing, no long hugs like the movie but at that moment we looked at each other as a family, not just 2 humans in a family tree. I finally got my uncle and I'm glad I waited. I hope he visits again here in Texas. We have a lot of catching up to do and I would love to take him to a lake, pulled up some chairs, and share a light drink, just the 2 of us.
My grandpa said they had to "take care of" children because they were used as bait for ambushes. Its a shame, how brutal it was. He saw his best friend get decapitated. This was one of the most pointless wars ever.
Sticking to the topic of war, how about "I am a falsely accused war criminal" or "I am a British soldier in Boston", the first could be about American Marines falsely accused of war crimes after coming home from Afphganistan, and the second could be the story of a British soldier during battles of Boston or the Boston Massaccare during the Revolutionary War. You could also do "I am the man who created my own tank", about the man who went on a tank rampage after creating his own tank, or "I am a 9/11 survivor/firefighter"

"One of the reasons war is created in this world is because it is far more exciting than peaceful living here. You notice when peaceful times exist, society starts to degenerate, and then there is a big war. Everyone then gets a tremendous sense of temporary purpose and vitality. When war is finally over with terrible destruction, people enjoy peace for a few years, and then there is a new war. Everyone talks about peace on the planet, but there are very few people who could tolerate it. There are very few people who could live in a world of peace. They are ill prepared. You have left a world of peace to come into this world. Peace is possible here, but you must prepare yourself for it. You cannot be living in conflict and hope to have a world of peace. The bullets will still fly and nations will still assault one another. No one can tolerate peace for long because if your environment is peaceful, your anger begins to come forth. If your environment is not peaceful, you do not realize your own anger. If you were in a room with no stimulation at all, a very peaceful room with no aggravation, your own anger would come forth. You would realize that you are at war already. You are struggling against your own Knowledge. You are fighting with yourself. That is why there is not peace in the world. There is only peace to the extent that people can tolerate it. So you will not have peace in the next decade because people cannot tolerate it. If the world were without conflict, it would be like the little room with very little stimulation. To the mind that is cultivated, the room without stimulation is a wonderful place. To the mind that is in conflict, the room without stimulation is a terrible place. To the mind that has been refined, the silence of the wilderness is a wonderful experience to be cherished. To the mind in conflict, it is an aggravation." A quote from *NewMessage ORG*
My grandpa was a Captain in the Vietnamese Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was an Ace with 20 kills. He was shot by Viet Cong, but survived. He is still alive today.
My Grandfather flew a Northrop F-5 for years, and he told me stories of his missions just to get it off his chest and not feel alone. After that he goes to world War 1 and was made capitain, defends a ship, sunk his own, sunk a german ship without any mercy for the survivors. And after all of that, he stills play a role in the World War 2
It wasn't a choice if half the country had to invade the other half to give it. The Vietnam War was a clusterfuck where morals didn't matter to anyone. Justice and justification was a facade used by all sides of that conflict, and draftees and the Vietnamese civilians were the ones who paid the most for it. Don't be under the illusion that the US was at all uniquely hypocritical in what it preaches and what it does.

They took him back to the base and told him your going to fight if it kills you. He told them you take me back out there I will do it again I'm not fighting your war. They loaded him back up took him back out and he did it again refused to fight. He spent 2 years in an army stockade before he was dishonorably discharged. I used to feel ashamed of him but the older I get I can't really blame him for what he done. He didn't volunteer it was a unpopular war for unpopular reasons.

my dad was a navy vet in 'nam. He used to laugh and say it was an acronym for 'never again volunteer yourself'. and he was so proud of his time in the military. He died after a 3 yr battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma on March 23,2017, he got it from exposure to Agent Orange that he got from shore leave while he was in Vietnam.

We don't call you a coward we call you a victim
Its cowardice. There is no excuse for abandoning duty and the people next to you to die in your place.
I call him a coward
Everyone has a choice, the only duty you have is doing what you think is right
@@benjamintim3542 it's cowardice if it's your own choice to go in, not if you're drafted.
@@numberone2676 and thats why there is no loyalty in this world anymore people only give a fuck about themselves and what they want. Fathers leaving children to grow up in a broken home. Husband's leaving wives to scratch out a living alone. Your sense of "duty" is what's killing this country.
Why did you go on hiatus for so long!? We missed you I am!
IDK probably some virus or something...
Devoscape Music yeah, I heard something about that too....🤔🤷♂️
I love this channel.... this episode broke my heart 😓 my uncle fought in this war but doesn't speak about it
when you’re so early there are no “I’m first comments”
Dizwani Nimble, this practically the same thing...
My Father dropped out if highschool unlisted in Marine Corp. Hes a Beast. But war definately had a effect on him. Great proud man. My hero!

As a war veteran myself I cant fault this guy. Vietnam war was a different time.
Suggestion: I am a soldier at the Alamo
He spent a year and a half I don't blame him
One year, not 1 1/2 .
I am a knight on the first crusade? I love the crusaders so I’d love this everyone viewing this please leave your thoughts in the comments I’ll add them.
Don't think it needs anymore to it. A knight in the 1st crusade seems pretty cool, but the 3rd one would be as well.
Remember the crusade that only had children in it, and there all got kidnapped

To the mind in conflict, it is an aggravation."

There are other ways to deal with your inner aggression and anger without killing others.
Societies don't necessarily "degenerate" in peaceful times.
Just take out your "inner aggression" by playing aggressive game lol

Hey, you guys could do a video about Charles Lightoller, an officer in the Titanic that save many lives, was swallowed by the ship, manages to get to the surface again and suvives in an upside down lifeboat. After that he goes to world War 1 and was made capitain, defends a ship, sunk his own, sunk a german ship without any mercy for the survivors. And after all of that, he stills play a role in the World War 2
The writing and emotion in this one is great!
“If they want communism, let them have it, isn’t that the whole point of democracy? To choose.” This was epic.
Problem is nobody none.of the peasants and normal ppl wanted a war they wanted peace
@@AdotLOM In July 1954, the Geneva Agreements were signed. As part of the agreement, the French agreed to withdraw their troops from northern Vietnam. Vietnam would be temporarily divided at the 17th parallel, pending elections within two years to choose a president and reunite the country. Ngo Dinh Diem violeted against this rules and made fake elections because he knew he won't win against the popular Ho chi Minh
@@AdotLOM Actually the majority of the people wanted the communist side. Since ho chi minh was really moderated and he was more a nationalist than a communist

My uncle was drafted in 68. He did boot camp and was deployed in early 69. He said when they were taking him out he looked down he said it looked like star wars one side had red tracers the other green tracers. When the helicopter landed he refused to fight.
