    You know what else is crazy? The fact that Eminem has sold records to a point that he competes with pop stars as far as sales go yet people will mention that his fan base is not the core hip hop audience, isn’t that what influence is about? Isn’t influence measured by how your impact can go beyond your reach?

      It doesn't matter to core Hip Hop fans. Eminem doesn't have nearly the impact for the people who actually matter and set the trends in Hip Hop. The tastemakers and historians who know this culture inside and out wouldn't mention Eminem in the same breath as Jay Z and that is a fact. Vanilla ice was a terrible rapper and I can assure that he still probably gets more love in other countries than Rakim and other legends. 'International' recognition isn't a factor to the people who KNOW Hip Hop. Foreigners will always prefer 'white faces'. That's just the world we live in.

He was damn near redneck southern style Mf..and Mr Mchman, the owner of WWF/WWE said recently in an interview with Jim Ross on podcast that “The rock was very electrifying and he appeared to be the best wrestler at times with the best characterstics and fan favorite but Stone cold is the most viewed wrestler ever from WWF.. and that’s based on nights that he was a main event on raw or when he was the main event on a PPV compared to the other guys. He sold the most tickets. That reminds me of Em.. he just wants to rap.. he doesn’t want a liquor deal or buy a team or do anything that is not related to hiphop. I think Jay Z’s impact is more niche than Em’s. When you list the amount of artist that Em has influenced, and his hand in one of the most impactful hip hop media platforms (sway) and then talk about how Jay had people dressing a way for that short period, and targeting auto tune (something essential in hip hop today so clearly his anti auto tune rhetoric had no impact), I don’t see how this is as nuanced as Don is making it. I think that Jay is the best at what he does, but being the best doesn’t mean being the most impactful.

    • @onyxonyx4744
      @onyxonyx4744 Рік тому +1

      The difference is you CAN'T count how many rappers Jay has influenced b/c it's basically EVERYONE post '96. He's your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. Eminem himself even said he was influenced by Jay lol. Jay influenced the INFLUENCERS. Lil' Wayne, Drake, Kanye, Kendrick, Cole, Dipset, The Lox, Fabolous, Pusha T and basically every street rapper that has gotten respect has sited Jay as an influence! Rocafella as a label and RocNation management have been extremely influential in the careers of countless rappers. Let's not talk about how every rapper has a clothing line, liquor and sneakers because of the blueprint that Jay and Dame built. Stop it. There's a lot for you to learn about Jay's impact on Rap. Eminem is NOT more impactful to the core of Hip Hop than Jay. It's not even close. Casual listeners who like fast rapping but can't understand nuance and depth in writing will of course prefer Eminem. They don't know half of what Jay is even talking about. It has to be broken down for them. PLUS European features are more celebrated in this world and you know it. Being 'white' simply is an advantage and we would be ignorant to deny this.

(Edit- like bro you naming Drake like his primary influences arent Wayne and Kanye, giving jayz the credit for Drake is just taking away the magnitude of what Drake and Wayne did, not to say that Jay didn’t influence the artist, but your giving him more credit than he deserves with the “influencing the influencer” bs, cus in that case we can just say that grandmaster flash is the greatest influencer ever right? He cares about the hiphop world, he’s a hiphop nerd, he and his content is true to himself and doesn’t reflect the experiences of black culture but his skills and craft is a product of the culture. He’s respected as an MC by his peers. No one serious thinks he isn’t an elite MC and lyricist - even if they don’t enjoy it artistically. Those skills are the product of black culture and black people who gave him a platform. Eminem constantly explains this himself. He isn’t bigger than Jay in the culture and listen to White America and he explains why he’s bigger in the mainstream.

    If we want to talk about to influence then let’s talk about it. Em is the best selling rap artist. Em made it cool for white kids to rap. Em made 8 Mile, putting the spot light on battle rap. Em invented the term Stan which is still used to this day. Em revived Dre’s career and helped jumpstart Aftermath records.Em blew up 50 and the whole G Unit along with him. Em brought out D12. Em pushed Slaughterhouse and Griselda, the moat hardcore rap groups ever. Em shouted all the legendary rappers out on the Grammies. Jay on the other hand had people drinking crystal lol. Jay did bring us State Property and Kanye, I guess you can throw in Memphis Bleek too. I don’t know how much influence he had on J Cole being this big, but I’ll give him that. Jay just had a bunch of business ventures and a relationship with Beyonce that’s pretty much it.

    I think people need to stop pretending Eminem has only white fans. If you like a certain type of hiphop then I can understand you would not gravitate as much to Eminem. Eminem speaks on more universal topics that are relatable to any race and that is also a reason why he is internationally more known. Yes you can say other people cannot understand what Jay Z raps about since it is very much about black american culture. But i dont see how that puts Jay on a higher position. You could also argue that makes Jay less relatable since he is only actually relatable to a small population. I think what people always try to make it is that only black american opinions matter on hiphop, but being black does not automatically validate your opinion over someone else. hiphop knowledge of people of other color might be way more advanced than some of the black americans.

    The reason Jay is the goat is because he dictated the culture since the 90s but he also managed to evolve his sound. He's talking about being a father and husband and creating generational wealth. Em is rapping about farting on your sneakers.

    lmao excuses are so wild Lmaoooo first of all “Truthfully I wanna rhyme like common sense..but I sold 5 million, I haven’t rhymes like Common since..since, you now know what I’m up against” -Hov
    So stop it buddy. Jay isn’t that intricate with the raps my boi. That’s cap.. Em is wayyyyyyyyy more intricately sound then Jay. Jay is a simple rapper with clear and obvious verbiage. The only time he loses folks is when he talks that drug talk but that’s not the reason his reach isn’t like Ems.. Ems reach is the way it is cuz he let the fans into his life. Gave them a front seat to his Culture, childhood, problems, drug addiction lifestyle, struggles of being a single dad of 3 little girls, his love hiphop, the ones he pays homage to, his respect for the craft and continuous dedication to the ART FORM of HipHop. That’s why Ems reach is light years ahead of Jay.. let me remind you
    “Men lie women lie..numbers don’t” - Hov
    His numbers are not even half of what Ems was or are today.. Spotify Em Is Top 2 most streams n monthly listeners(he’s competing with Drake) .. but currently kicking January as the most streamed rapper so far.. UA-cam? He’s number one.. and second place only has half his views(Drake) n he hasn’t dropped an album in 3 years … Drake dropped 3 projects to maintain his spot.. if Em drops another album this year then he’s gonna leave Drake in the dust… his influence is also further on hiphop than Jay. No rapper today or even back then have sounded like or tried to sound like and were actually successful doing so.. Cole said he was an Eminem bite when first started rapping during his mixtapes days. He got signed from Jay (ironically) using that sound Cole said Em and Nas were his biggest influences..kdot said he studied Ems MMLP album like it was the Bible.. tryna figure out his rhyme patterns. They asked him directly on a radio show “is Em the goat? Not including yourself…he said I think is the ONE” Akon had a chance to sign Drake before Wayne. Said he didn’t sign him cuz he sounded way too much like an Eminem clone.. Drake has said twice publicly that “Em is the greatest rapper to ever touch a microphone” so basically what I’m telling you is.. Em has influenced the future goats of hiphop. More than Hov..and it’s evident. Em is about the art form and the culture, Hov is about the money and the business. And he tells you on every feat he does. SMACK DVD said that after watching 8 mile they started recording battles in Harlem..today SMACK is known as URL bettor league. It’s the biggest battle rap league in the world. And Em influenced that culture..many other battle rap league came out after smack. Alllllll that has to be credited to Em.. battle rap league love and show a great deal of respect to Em because he’s the one..he battle rapped his way all the way to the very top.. he did it on pure skill and will.. he rapped his way to the top. He didn’t sing his way like drake, he didn’t do a million features for acceptance. He do a bunch of club hits. He has his own gimmickie record but he stayed him. He had fun. He was still being himself. And even on those records. He was rapping rapping. He didn’t dumb it down to sell more records. Actually Em is way more lyrical today than he was back then and he’s still on top. And for those that wanna say it’s only because he’s white, let me give you one fun fact.. put your feeling to the side for a second. There has not been one rapper before Em or after Em that has ever even snifffffed the success, record sales, respect from his peers or skills that has earned and displayed. Not one. You need to be good enough.. Mac Miller. Dope MC, didn’t even sniff Em success, Yelawolf. Signed to Em. Super talented. Lyrical and can sing. Didn’t even sniffffff his success..bubba Spark, dope rapper had timbaland behind. Didn’t sniff it.. MGK dope rapper. Had billionaire Diddy behind him. Didn’t even sniff it. Lol Paul wall. Dope. Everyone loved him. Didn’t sniff it. G easy.. dope rapper. Not even close. Asher Roth. Tried to sound like Em n the culture actually sucked with him. Didn’t come Close to the success..Jack Harlow, Slim Jesus 😂, Action Bronson, Tom Macdonald , Logic (revered as white but he’s half black or 25% black) and the list goes on and on..those rapers didn’t see Em success because they didn’t have Ems passion, lyrical ability, image, culture battle rap credibility, co-signs from 80s goats like LL COOL J, Run DMC asked Eminem to induct them into the rock and roll hall of fame, Rakim the GoD MC called Em the Ali of rap, Kool G Rap said Em and Nas were the only rappers to impress him lyrically he said Em blew him away, list goes on.. that’s why Em is where he is at. He went thru so much to get here. Those other rappers are just automatically accepted into this culture cuz Em paved the way. But Em wasn’t accepted. He fought for his spot. He’s the first of his kind and last.. Em is like Tupac. They’ll never two more rappers like that. Biggie style and skill can be duplicated, Jay can be duplicated nas has duplicated kook g rap and Rakim, Em only sound like Em..Pac only sound like Pac
