Back in 1984 (approximately), we finally got an Atari 2600 and games. These were cheaper all of a sudden, and even poor people like us could now afford games (we had no idea the videogame crash was a thing). Space Invaders was $5 at the local Toys R Us. A year later, we got a Colecovision. Man, that system was my favorite.
Being raised by a single mom, I guess she felt bad we lived in a bad neighborhood and she worked long hours so she got me every gaming system in the 80's starring off with the Sears woodgrain Atari 2600 and of course ColecoVision god I remember that joystick felt you we're holding a 2 litter of pop. They also sold a steering wheel for the driving games I put the wheel on the coffee table with the gas pedal on the floor can't remember the name of the game I got with it but your on some alien planet driving around gathering crystals to refuel your spaceship and my favorite Tarzan game where you climb trees and punch giant Apes in the face, good times!
Hi Jon, it's surprising how many people even from our generation never heard of Colecovision. I had friends who had the 2600 and later the Intellivision and I didn't have anything at the time. But after the Colecovision came out, and being a fan of their handheld stuff, I hounded my parents for it and got one for Christmas. I was the only kid I knew who had it and still have it to this day 40 years later. I might set it up every 5 years for an hour or so, but its just one of those things you look at and is a direct link to your childhood.
I had an Atari 2600 as a kid and loved it (obviously !) but by 1982 I'd moved onto the ZX Spectrum home computer (not so big over there in North America but huge here in the UK). I was aware of the colecovision at the time through computer/video magazines but I had no idea how much better it was than the Atari. Watching this video almost makes me want one. If there was HDMI connectivity I might have tried to get hold of one, but those joysticks look like a nightmare !
When the first colecovision commercial came out it was jaw dropping and donkey Kong was almost perfect looking that it was best system that sales went through the roof.
Coleco should still be in business today, what a great system to grow up on. Favorite over the intelivision and comadore 64 we as kids also were able to play on alongside the 2600. Thanks for the content, always appreciated 👊🏻👽
The Colecovision controller was crap. Whoever designed that put the first nail into the coffin. Those games have been perfected on the iiRcade with the arcade controls those games were designed for.
The biggest issue for colecovision was the video game crash. This system was great for the time period. Games looked better than any other system at the time. The second biggest problem was the Adam. They were quick to release it before working out all the bugs. They had so many issues in the beginning that Coleco was never able to win back favor with the consumer.
I guess I'll be the first comment saying that yes, my family DID have a Colecovision when I was growing up. We went from the Atari VCS/2600 to the Colecovision. Some of those games you were playing I remember playing on our Colecovision. I picked up one of these Flashback consoles a few years ago to give to my brother as a gift. Of course, I had to try it out first to, um, make sure it was working. Yeah, that's it. :D As for should you do more coverage of Colecovision? Absolutely! And thanks Jon.
I envy you, Qun Mang. Fortunately, we live in an amazing time, and I can rewind time to obtain and enjoy those things today for pennies on the dollar! Thanks for watching, as always. 😀
Great video, Jon. I had a ColecoVision when I was a kid. They always did a good job with the arcade games. I missed out on that CollectorVision Phoenix(Updated ColecoVision System) that came out awhile ago but am hoping someone like Evercade will release a volume or two of ColecoVision games. I would even be happy if ATGames re-released the ColecoVision Flashback as long as it had HDMI. Thanks, thumps up'd, and subscribed.
I remember getting a Colecovision lot from a garage sale in the mid to late 90s. Dam Busters was the game that intrigued me the most, but I could never really get into, because I only got a part of the documentation. The part that was the most interesting, the mission briefings in their little envelope, but not the actual manual or overlays. So it was a game I could load up, flip through the different views, scour the missions, but could never for the life of me figure out how to play.
“I’m going to blame this joystick…” We all wanted to say that. This looked like you had fun though. Good video. Took me back. This system just made me want to play my c64 back in the day.
Good stuff, Jon. Like you, I had always wanted a Colecovision, but never got one. I recently got to sample some CV games on my iiRcade. However, as you discovered, there is no Donkey Kong, but at least a lot of the greats are on there. I hope you get your system up and running and I would love to see more CV stuff. Thanks for the video.
Like you, Colecovision had me giving my Atari the side-eye. Those commercials made it look so cool. I hated that kid who kept snidely commenting, "Pacman? I play it on Colecovision." A few years later an Atari 600XL with a tape drive appeared under my Christmas tree and I forgot all about it. Now THAT was a Jungle Hunt.
Oh, man. So many of my Atari 8-bit brothers and sisters have been coming out of the woodwork in comments lately! My Atari 800 was my first computer love. I went on to the 800XL & eventually a 130XE. Loved that computer! 🥰
I'm shocked you don't have a real CV now! My favorite system of 80's for sure. My first computer system was the ADAM (in '93 mind you0 purchased from a former Coleco employee and had so much fun with it especially with a ColecoVision built right into the system. I'm from Upstate NY and live about an hour away from the old Coleco factory in Amsterdam; kinda cool to live around gaming history.
Holy cow! Just found your channel and I’m a sub. I could never have afforded a Colecovision when I was a kid, but I could dream. DK is my favorite game of all time and when I first saw the commercial for Colecovision I almost had a heart attack. I was happy enough playing my 2600 version with the gingerbread man posing as Donkey Kong, but I knew I was missing out.
Oh, the damned gingerbread Kong! And it didn't help that he was throwing Ritz crackers, did it?! 😁 Glad you found us, Michael. You may or may not know we also have a weekly podcast, and for an entry point, may I recommend the Donkey Kong 40th Anniversary show? genxgrownup.com/donkey-kong-40th/
I Love the Coleco, but I never had one, I had the 7800, Still have It My 3 Older cousins had the Coleco with the Expansion Packs We Played SMURFS Gargamels Castle Constantly!
Looping was the Colecovision game I played most. I hated that wasn’t on there. There was a Looping machine at SFGE year before last and it was out of order before I got to play!
Nice video. We had a Colecovision back in the mid 80s. The build quality is so much better. We had somewhere around 40 games. Kicked myself for selling it on eBay in the early 2000s for $100 for everything. So I did not hesitate to buy the when someone else sold their old Colecovision set for $20 at a garage sale. The graphics might not be as good as the games right now but they are very enjoyable.
My Colecovision Flashback came from Goodwill around 2017/2018 and was definitely new, though not boxed/complete. Indeed, I even had to buy the controllers separately since they put those out a week later (cost me more than the rest of the console). Had the factory twist ties on the adapter and controller cords though.
My Coleco console is still working. NOt playing it much, but soometimes I take it out and give it a spin just for the nostalgia. And the aching hands from the controllers
Find memories. My best friends family had it. They were all gamers so they had soooo many games. Smurf Rescue is one of my all time favs. I play them on my Odroid XU4. Even have the donkey Kong version with ALL the screens.
Jon completely agree! This AtGames is a good gateway to the original. I had my Colecovison AV modded which was a big help. The best part is you can play Destructor and Bump n’ Jump without the Expansion Steering Wheel, which is rare getting one the works. Also some home brews on here that are very $ and terrific like “Shunting Puzzle” and “Bankruptcy Builder” more cerebral by Phillip Kraus Klaus. Please more Colecovision and yes ain’t nothing like the real thing baby when it comes to the carts! 👏👏👏
Destructor, Heist, Frenzy, Choplifter, Jungle Hunt, Space Panic, Squish 'em Sam, great classics in addition to many great games. One of my controllers stopped working. The 2nd still works thankfully. Thanks. Dragonfire is still a tough game. Donkey Kong would be great on here, yes.
ColecoVision was our 1st console. It was huge improvement over 2600 & Intellivision. Actually felt like the arcade at home. Donkey Kong pack in was definitely “bananas” great. I still have a ColecoVision with a dozen or so games. Mr Do, Pepper II, DK, DK Jr, Mousetrap & Popeye were my favs. Coleco owned the “home” console licensing for DK at that time and purposely made the 2600 version poor to make the ColecoVision look that much better.
I had forgotten about those inserts until you played blackjack! I used to play that so much. BUT! No colecovision is complete without the Smurf game. 😊
The Colecovision really was something special. I never had one back in the day, but gazed longingly at the screenshots. Managed to pick up 3 partially-working Colecovision consoles on eBay a few years ago, quite cheaply, and cobble together 1 fully-functional Colecovision between them, complete with Trackball, steering wheel, etc. Means I have 3 Donkey Kong cartridges and 2 Smurf cartridges though!
Duplicates are never a real problem! 😀 I have one working, but with none of those cool peripherals. I really want to get my hands on that pistol-grip controller with the joystick on top.
I've had two. I kept my second one because Frenzy is amazing on it. And now with Opcode's Super Game Module, I have Gradius, Bosconian, and Donkey Kong Arcade on it. I also use a 9 pin splitter to use a regular joystick next to the keypad.
Much like you, I never had a Colecovision. I played one a few times because I had a cousin who always had the coolest tech before any of us did. I too loved the more vivid colors and variety of games it had. I have one of those Colecovision Flashbacks, and it's difficult to navigate with the controller. If I recall, the original one had more flexibility to it, more pitch and seemed to be more versatile in your hand. I would like to see a review on it, I've been tempted to get an original.
I hear that story a lot, Crypto. "A couisin or neighbor had one, but I didn't." I think the initial price compared to the (then price-dropped) VCS hurt it when parents making the buying decision didn't fully comprehend just how much more immersive CV games could be.
I still have the original console with the Atari module adapter with all the best games that this flashback doesn't have. I was very excited when I saw this flashback in the store until I noticed all the best games IMO were left out. Not just Donkey Kong, but Donkey Kong Jr., Dig-Dug, Wargames, Ladybug, Mousetrap, Popeye and a few others that was what made Colecovision wanted. I wish they would at least make a Flashback Colecovision with a cartridge input ability to use the old games. I'm glad I kept my original though it just collects dust since it's limited to be used on older T.V.'s. and the power supply are known to overheat and burn out. That's what happened to mine and got lucky and found a new replacement a year ago in some weird store really cheap. It works again!!
I always find it interesting how toys or things we didn't have can have such a big impact on as the ones we did. I still want a Castle Grayskull and USS Flagg. But the money and amount of space they would take up keep me from getting them now
I had a coleco vision with the Atari attachment as a kid in the 80s. It was awesome, coleco and Atari games. Smurfs, zaxxon, burger time, and one I can’t remember(your a little stick figure dude in the game, but he zips around like the flash.
The Colecovision was soooo close to arcade quality at the time and I would play the demos in the stores at the mall I lived near. I took home the pamphlets and drooled over the pics. The Achilles heal is the joypad on the controller and this plug and play version is slightly worse. I have the version from Sam's Club with a few extra overlays and it's ok. I totally understand Nintendo games are missing, but why couldn't they get Mouse Trap, Lady Bug, Mr. Do, Burger Time, and Tapper??? It would have made this mini close to perfect for me. That said, Princess Quest is a surprising and solid Homebrew game! I have always hoped for this to get hacked so we could add roms, but it has never happened. Nice overview video.
@@GenXGrownUp You inspired me to fire it up again tonight, thanks. I forgot the Mecha-8 game is a homebrew shmup on there thats pretty good too. Seeing your content I had to sub... I can't believe the YT algorithm has been hiding your channel from me all these years. Better late than never.
Christmas of ‘82 I got a 2600 and exactly one year later my best friend down the street got a ColecoVision. The “crash” was something none of us knew nor cared about. All I knew was I felt cheated. It felt, to me, as though he had a legitimate arcade system due to ColecoVision’s superior graphics and sound. However, I noticed how very often my friend wanted to play my 2600. Well…of course I had around about 40 games and had about 7 or so. But, I recall being jealous and blown away by Donkey Kong and Xaxxon! My personal favorite however was WarGames! Great game! I wish they could have included that on this unit. That single game is the only reason I want a real ColecoVision to this day. I had a perfect emulation about 20 years ago on my iMac but I’ve not found a satisfactory replacement since. And now that I’m on iOS and iPadOS exclusively, I’m sure I’ll never, going right back to grabbing an actual unit just and only for WarGames. Heh
Thanks for sharing. I had a slightly similar experience of my CV friend wanting to come play Atari, and I think it was for the same reason: I had dozens of games and he had just a handful. 😀
So cool to see you discovering Colecovision. It was my favorite system growing up and I actually have a Coleco Adam that I'm learning to program games on right now. That was something I always wanted to do as a kid, but only ever made stuff on the C64.
As a kid, I wanted an Atari so bad, but my dad insisted I wait for the ColecoVision to be released and I was so glad that he did! I used to play Zaxxon and Donkey Kong for hours!! The Flashback looks awesome, but it's also missing two of my favourite games: Dig Dug & Carnival. :(
Darn it, Jon!!!! You know I’m a Flashback fan. Now I have to go hunt one of these down! It looks great! I never had a Colecovision. Nor did I know anyone that had one. I am totally a Coleco virgin. I have to now “pop that cherry.” Crap. Now I’m off to eBay to see what this is gonna set me back….
The Colecovision was my first system, a year or two later I got the NES. I have and play both original systems as well as the Mini version. The Colecovision games are much better on the PC through ROMs and emulators; the graphics are crystal clear and a D-Pad controller makes the games much better. But I still enjoy the RF output Colecovision with original controller.
I would love to see more Colecovision! It's a very underrated console. While I loved the ColecoVision flashback, there were some sound emulation issues in the games, like Venture and Zaxxon. It was a blast playing Fortune Builder again, the original SimCity
ColecoVision was the best of the early consoles. They also had a different controller that was like a pistol grip with buttons under each finger, and there was a curved shield in front, to hide which button you were pressing from your opponent, because the buttons each selected a certain play in the football game and the pitch in the baseball game. It was an amazing system, but like yourself, I never owned one, but one of my friends did, and we used to spend hours on Friday and Saturday nights playing each other. While this unit is very appealing, without Donkey Kong, it is a no sell for me. Trivia for people who were unaware... Donkey Kong was supposed to be named MONKEY Kong, but someone made a typo and the rest is history! 😲
I used one of those CV pistol controllers once. Much better than the stock one, especially with that ball-top joystick. On the DK front, that's a commonly-believed myth: www.snopes.com/fact-check/donkey-kong-mistranslation/
I remember getting one of these a few years ago. I decided I wanted this for my birthday instead of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I have no regrets.
My folks sprung for the Atari home Pong console and that's where their interest in home video game consoles ended. I always envied my friends who had an Atari VCS. Those Flashback consoles are great, especially when you can add your own ROM's.
You're a little older than myself but I definitely played some Atari. I don't recalling playing Intellivision or the Collecovision but definitely wanna. My first console was the NES. My friend had the Sega system that came out before the Sega Genesis. It was a really cool experience. I like seeing home brews on the original systems. They're really cool. Like Mario Bros on the Collecovision.
Also notably missing: The Smurfs. Yes, I understand why it’s not here, but that’s the game that first captured my attention as a little kid. I also had a 2600 and was just absolutely blown away by how good the graphics were (by comparison) on my friend’s Coleco.
Colecovision is cool and underrated. I like venture it reminds of a simplistic version of zelda and it's better than the terrible hydlide on the NES which I believe in the inspiration for zelda , obviously nintendo's take on that game play style is much better , I also played the ladybug game on MAME which is fun and has a colecovision port
Definitely wouldn't mind more CV coverage. It's a favorite system of mine as well> I dream of an affordable mini with an SD Card and wireless controllers :)
I wonder if AtGames will ever get back around to the other Gen2 platfom Flashbacks. They've done Atari to death - be nice to go back and revamp the Intellivison & ColecoVision.
This is the system I always wanted in my collection but never managed to get. I had all the Atari consoles, and they were great, but I always pined for the exclusive arcade ports on the Colecovision.
I had a colecovision as a kid with quite a substantial library, but as it wasn't a popular system in the UK , I always wanted a Atari or a computer (spectrum, c64). How nieve I was. But I guess it was a case of wanting what everyone else had and wanting a proper joystick. I did love the system though some fantastic games , donkey Kong, donkey Kong Jr, Smurf, gorf, mr do,venture, space panic and zaxxon were all great and very well played over and over
My neighbour in west Wales has moved here from London and strangely had a colecovision and I loved it a,also had the Atari adaptor for it Secondly I think they shouldnyqge stuck to their fun and called it the Connecticutleathercompanyvision!
I am Gen X and ColecoVision was awesome unfortunately I could only play it in a Montgomery Ward Store. My family was very poor. Some nice associates in the store would change out cartridges for me and my friends.
3:03 When I saw that receipt for $69 I thought holy crap whatever store that was ripped you off! That thing probably goes for like $15 now. Then I looked on Ebay.....turns out you got a great deal lol
I bought these(colecovision/intellivision) back in the day because they were so weird to see as plug and play consoles, they had exclusive versions from Dollar General that had one or two extra games, i remember it was the only way to get Antarctic Adventure
I’m 72 years old (baby boomer) I was around when it all started. I was a Atari fan, I have owned just about every console and computers they made. The Colecovision was actually pitted the Atari 5200. The graphics on the 5200 where better because the colecovision’s graphics were very cartoonish and the sounds were abut tinny. I have a colecovision which I purchased at a yard sale for $20 it came with about 10 games and the Atari 2600 adapter. I played around with it and I know both the 5200 and Colecovision had awful controllers. I still liked the 5200 controllers better, I never had that much trouble with most games, you just had to get use to it. The Colecovision controllers joystick would acutally break. I now play my 7800 most of the time it’s Donkey Kong is just about arcade perfect with all the screens. I would like to see you do more on the Colecovision !
I really loved this flashback system because although I didn't have a Colecovision,, originally, I did have an Atari 800xl, which shares titles through it. The problem, however, is that after a year, the first port stopped receiving the signal to move left. So, both controllers will not move left in the first port, but both work perfectly in the second port. For the single player games that I purchased it for - Montezuma's Revenge and Gateway to Apshai - they're now unplayable. If anyone has a suggestion about that, just let me know. Thanks!
Oh, no! Sorry to hear about that. Did you try a little take-apart to check for broken connections? BTW, I was also an Atari 8-bit user (800, then 800XL, then 130XE) and love seeing variations of so many Atari titles (Jumpman Jr., Miner 2049er, Apshai, etc.) and how they made the transition to ColecoVision.
@@GenXGrownUp Yes, the great surprise of those fantastic games included was the reason I bought it, but as I looked about online in regard to the problem that was encountered - there wasn't much, if any, relative support. I did actually check to see if any pins in the port were misaligned, or if anything was loose or detached when opening it up, but everything looked new and the same as I could tell. Aside from calling Best Buy's Geek Squad, I spoke with a video game repair guy online who told me what indications to look for on the mother board and such, but still - nothing was found. And so, for now - as disappointing as it is, I've just kept the Colecovision in a storage locker. A few months ago, I almost actually purchased a used one online, but held off for the time being. Hopefully, the issue can be fixed at some point in the future. Thanks for your response, and your channel is greatly appreciated.
@@jasonpaulelder Thanks for the kind words. You may be able to replace the unit by finding an out-of-box with no inserts or anything going cheap. Add that to your (I'm certain) still pristine packaging, and you'd be whole again. 😀
@@GenXGrownUp Thank you! I also think that buying a working game base on its own would be the best option at this point. And, yes - I do actually keep everything looking new in the packaging with the original ties for the cords, instructions, etc. Even in childhood, I couldn't understand friends who would practically destroy their toys. :D In relation to this, in being a musician, I could never see smashing up a guitar as I've seen others do on occasion - especially since I play 12-strings. Aside from the financial compromise, it would feel sacrilegious to me. :)
We had the Colecovision back then. The steering wheel for Turbo. The Super Action Controllers. It was great! The Trackball for Slither and the Atari 2600 adapter came later. But it was a great system! I spent a lot of time in Montezuma's Revenge. I don't think I was ever able to complete it. It was so long ago! I agree that not having DK and DK Jr. is sad. Nintendo made money by licensing the game but now they won't do it for anything.
My sister got me this for Christmas one year since I had the Colecovision growing up. It has some good games but not the "really big" ones. No Donkey Kong, no Ladybug. I played it for about ten minutes and haven't touched it since. Maybe it's time to get it out and give it another try.
My family had a ColecoVision when I was a kid. I absolutely enjoyed this system. Looping was my favorite game on the ColecoVision. I wonder - was Looping one of the 60 games on this Flashback?
The original version of Drgaonfire was designed for the 2600, I'm not sure why when they ported it over to the Intellivision and Colecovision they added the guy shooting at you with arrows while you're trying to make it to the Dragon. it makes it really hard on both of those platforms, and I'm a Drgaonfire expert on 2600
I was no expert, but I was pretty good with it (way better than you saw me play in this footage). I don't think I even got to the arrows! I'm no Dragonfire purist, and I sure think it looks nicer here, at least. (Though as I recall, Imagic did a bang-up job of the gameplay physics on the original VCS title.)
To me at least, this is probabaly the best flashback system to get. The colecovision had some great games on it, & unlike other consoles, where the 2600 flashbacks are missing a lot of recognizable titles that defined the system, & the intellivison one the same problem, the colecovision flashback has a bunch of games that I feel really defined the system. And unlike the atari flashbacks, the homebrews on the colecovision flashback are actually really well done. The best flashback, for me personally, to get in the modern day!
The controllers, though very functional, left something to be desired in terms of long term play. Those side buttons felt like sandpaper on your thumbs after a while.
I once played on a friend's and he had that pistol controller with the red ball-top stick. I'm not sure if that was any better for long-term play, but it certainly had a better joystick.
I was lucky enough to have a ColecoVision growing up along with the Atari adapter that plugged into the front of the console. I stupidly sold mine about 20 years ago and now own this same Flashback system you show here. Yeah, it’s missing Donkey Kong, Mousetrap, Lady Bug and some other classics, but at least it has Venture, Zaxxon, Space Fury, Frenzy and Cosmic Avenger! The main thing I don’t like about this Flashback is that controllers don’t look exactly like a real ColecoVision one. The originals had gray fire buttons and a white number pad and was not all black like this Flashback. That’s nitpicking I know, but I am just so used to the black, gray and white controllers and not an all black version. Oh well! 🤷♂️
Sorry you lost your original. I guess I'll figure this out when I get around to restoring my real one, but are the genuine controllers compatible with the Flashback do you know?
I hope we get at least one ColecoVision cart for the Evercade! If so, I think the games on it should be: - Cosmic Avenger - Frenzy - Pitstop - Montezuma’s Revenge - Motocross Racer - any other games you think should be on such a cart?
The other day after i watched this video got out my old coleco OUT and i forgot how good the the rocky boxing controllers were made you have to check them out.THANKS. 😅
Back in 1984 (approximately), we finally got an Atari 2600 and games. I agree about Coleco, their best product was the tabletop arcade games like Ms. Pacman and Donkey Kong.

@@SoulforSalecontrollers weren't that bad. Nowhere near as bad as intellivision
As for should you do more coverage of Colecovision? Absolutely! And thanks Jon.
I envy you, Qun Mang. Fortunately, we live in an amazing time, and I can rewind time to obtain and enjoy those things today for pennies on the dollar! Thanks for watching, as always. 😀
Your enthusiasm is the best part of the video.
Correction: The best part of the video is wonderul viewers like you.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
Jumpman and Jumpman Jr have always been favorites of mine, but I played them on the Atari 800 computer. So much fun!
Yeah, I played/loved them on the C64. To be honest, I didn’t know Junior was on the CV.
I think this was the best at games flashback. I got this and the intellivision one at Family Dollar on a Thanksgiving day sale for $27 each.
I remember getting a Colecovision lot from a garage sale in the mid to late 90s. Dam Busters was the game that intrigued me the most, but I could never really get into, because I only got a part of the documentation. So it was a game I could load up, flip through the different views, scour the missions, but could never for the life of me figure out how to play.
I remember getting my Colecovison as a child LOVED IT. Pepper 2 was one of my favorite games
I'd like to get a ColecoVision. It's one of the very few consoles that I don't have.
That is cool. As I mentioned, I do have one I purchased, but it needs a little TLC. I'll be looking at that here before too long, I hope.
I Love the Coleco, but I never had one, I had the 7800, Still have It
My 3 Older cousins had the Coleco with the Expansion Packs
We Played SMURFS Gargamels Castle Constantly!
Looping was the Colecovision game I played most. I hated that wasn’t on there. There was a Looping machine at SFGE year before last and it was out of order before I got to play!
I have a Looping cartridge, but haven't yet tried it in my real console. You've just added to my must-play list, Mur. 😀
Thanks for sharing
My 1st step was also the Flashback! I do enjoy packing it around on work trips to play while my CV console is at home
Fantastic video. The games seems more involved and engrossing than Atari. I’m down for more content like this.
My Coleco console is still working. NOt playing it much, but soometimes I take it out and give it a spin just for the nostalgia. And the aching hands from the controllers
The ColecoVision is what makes me a gamer back then and I still am. Thanks, ColecoVision!
C64 Gateway to Apshai remains one of my favorite games of all time.
Definitely interested in more Coleco vision content. I’ve got a couple of units and have yet to clean them up. Have many cartridges.
Still have my og one from the 80s getting the flash-back this week-end
Missing Burgertime one of is best port ever !!!
I actually never played that Smurf game, but pretty much every CV owner I knew had it. 😀
Awesome, yes, please make some more CV content. Great system, great memories 👍
Thanks, and heard, ArcadeDude44. I appreciate you watching. 😀
It's intriguing because I never seen or knew anyone who had a ColecoVision. When I was a kid, it was NES and Atari.
I had no idea this existed and now I must have it!
But the money and amount of space they would take up keep me from getting them now
That was my first gaming console I was 5 years old when I had it ;the only thing I have left is the original donkey Kong cart. That was around 1982
Thanks, Nook. Both for watching and for your insight. I didn't now PQ was a homebrew, but it's pretty impressive and feels of the era.
@@RetroGamingNook Damn that algorithm! I'm certainly glad you're here. 😘
I love the CV, but don't have a system but I did get onboard the collectorvision phoenix train and love it
Christmas of ‘82 I got a 2600 and exactly one year later my best friend down the street got a ColecoVision.
Oooh. Was the ColecoVision Dig Dug port on par with these others?
@@GenXGrownUp Yes! Another favourite I almost forgot was Mr. Do! =)
Princess Quest feels and looks like a mix of Ghosts n Goblins with Donkey Kong 👍😎
I can see that. Another commenter mentioned that it's a more recent homebrew, apparently. Pretty impressive.
Had Coleco vision back in th4e day and loved it!
I can't imagine a Colecovision without the Smurf game. I spent too much time at a friends house jumping gates.
I would love to see more Colecovision! It's a very underrated console. While I loved the ColecoVision flashback, there were some sound emulation issues in the games, like Venture and Zaxxon. It was a blast playing Fortune Builder again, the original SimCity
More to come!
Oh sure! NOW I want to get one of these. $220 used on Amazon right now.
I know, they're step these days. Good luck! 😁
I remember getting one of these a few years ago. I decided I wanted this for my birthday instead of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I have no regrets.
It came with a computer and tape deck to called the Adam. I made a billing program for a courier company on that way back !
My folks sprung for the Atari home Pong console and that's where their interest in home video game consoles ended. I always envied my friends who had an Atari VCS. Those Flashback consoles are great, especially when you can add your own ROM's.
I have that same Missile Command tshirt. Shame the seller didn’t offer a yellow option so that the artwork is 100% box accurate.
This Flashback has really kickstarted my interest in the ColecoVision. More to come for certain.
@@GenXGrownUp Awesome-I certainly look forward to that!
I had one! One of my favorites!
Retro gaming is an amazing niche. People love their games.
Nice flashback. I picked up mine a few years ago at a Rite aid for 29.99.
Nice!
Same.
Arcade 1Up was supposed to release the Coleco Tabletop Arcade replicas a few years ago, but for some reason they were never released.
That's back when there was still hope of getting the Nintendo license and releasing all four. Sigh, the good ol' days...
I had a colecovision as a kid with quite a substantial library, but as it wasn't a popular system in the UK , I always wanted a Atari or a computer (spectrum, c64). How nieve I was. But I guess it was a case of wanting what everyone else had and wanting a proper joystick. I did love the system though some fantastic games , donkey Kong, donkey Kong Jr, Smurf, gorf, mr do,venture, space panic and zaxxon were all great and very well played over and over
I look forward to getting to know CV better.
I don’t remember anyone having a Coleco Vision, Atari was everywhere but I didn’t know anyone with this system. Kind of like VHS vs Beta
No? Missed it entirely, eh? What do you think a younger Atari-playing you would've thought about it?
Don't forget the Adam, got both loved the system, and Zaxxon, Qbert, still do.
My neighbour in west Wales has moved here from London and strangely had a colecovision and I loved it a,also had the Atari adaptor for it
Secondly I think they shouldnyqge stuck to their fun and called it the Connecticutleathercompanyvision!
I am Gen X and ColecoVision was awesome unfortunately I could only play it in a Montgomery Ward Store. My family was very poor. Some nice associates in the store would change out cartridges for me and my friends.
John Hancock x John Riggs = GenX Grownup. Continued Success ✌🏿
I'm humbled to be placed in the company of these great guys. Thanks, DeadThumb! 😀
I loved this console in the 80s
3:03 When I saw that receipt for $69 I thought holy crap whatever store that was ripped you off! That thing probably goes for like $15 now. Then I looked on Ebay.....turns out you got a great deal lol
I bought these(colecovision/intellivision) back in the day because they were so weird to see as plug and play consoles, they had exclusive versions from Dollar General that had one or two extra games, i remember it was the only way to get Antarctic Adventure
That's right. I'm still keeping my eye out for the Intellivision version.
I still have my ColecoVision that I bought in 1st grade
I hope to do more ColecoVision coverage in the future. I'm just starting to get my feet wet collecting for it and I'm starting to learn more about it.
That 2XL would be an interesting review.
In relation to this, in being a musician, I could never see smashing up a guitar as I've seen others do on occasion - especially since I play 12-strings. Aside from the financial compromise, it would feel sacrilegious to me. :)
I've never tried "Sir Lancelot" on Colecovision, but give that one a try; it's like a successor to Joust.
That's sounds intriguing. Thanks for the tip!
We had the Colecovision back then. The steering wheel for Turbo. The Super
Action Controllers.
Bro that Polybius hat is rad!
Thanks! It was included as a pre-order bonus with my Numskull Polybius power bank cabinet. Still glad I bought that!
I had all the bells & whistles. Expansion Module that you could play Atari 2600 games on it!!!
@@GenXGrownUp Was for some type of Super baseball if I recall?
pure nostalgia, so epic
@@GenXGrownUp That’s a good question, and I don’t know if they’re compatible or not! I’ll let you tell us that in a future video!
@@OriginalGrasshopper Challenge accepted! (Well, maybe not a challenge, but accepted either way.) 😉
I hope we get at least one ColecoVision cart for the Evercade!
If so, I think the games on it should be:
- Cosmic Avenger
- Frenzy
- Pitstop
- Montezuma’s Revenge
- Motocross Racer
- any other games you think should be on such a cart?
That would be great. I think you need Space Fury & Zaxxon on such a cart too.
The other day after i watched this video got out my old coleco OUT and i forgot how good the the rocky boxing controllers were made you have to check them out.THANKS. 😅
Those pistol grip CV controllers look cool. Not sure I've ever laid my hands on it, though. I'm on the lookout.
Those game port’s look great 👍 Jon
Agreed!
All it needed was an SD card/rom support and wire the Controllers correctly to accept the original controllers and this would have been awesome!
