Hi. I am looking for mac for rendering and 3d modelling and architectural work. Please suggest me best option that I can get which will be future proof. I would like to use D5 render and lumion for my work.
Thank you for these tests 😃👌🏻 How about fan noise in normal usage, while video editing, while coding etc? Sounds like the new Mini is not as silent as the old one which would be quite bad.
Even though it’s evident that using the new M4 Mac mini will be superior, could you compare the Mac mini Pro M1, Mac mini Pro Max M1, and the base M4 model to see the differences?
600 is absolutely the right price for something like this. The tech is mature now, so they can’t add an early adopter tax on it. You don’t get a screen, accessories, or anything. I think this is a really solid product for the price, only gripe is not having a larger SSD at base. If this had 1TB at base it would be the only non laptop computer I recommend for people in my life who don’t want to game.
also the RAM, I won't complain if they priced the storage and ram upgrade in accordingly. Apple really know how to screw the customers. ita will cost extra $800 for upgrading to 32gigs and 1tb🤷♂️.
I just picked up a mint used M2pro with 1tb and 32Gb ram for $900. I prefer the ports selection (4 x tb4 and 2 x usb A), I also prefer the audio on the back as I use desktop speakers. And finally I prefer the size as I won’t be carrying it in a backpack anywhere and it’s more stable. I won’t mention the power button… The mini m4 is a much better deal new, but I feel this is better deal for my needs.
Should I buy the M4 Mac mini with the m4 or m4 pro for my use case? I debate between the base m4 chip 16gb ram 512gb ssd for half the price or the m4 pro chip 24gb ram and 512gb. I need it for beginners photo and video editing, programming, web browsing, watching yt videos, listening to music and podcasts with high quality audio interface and headphones amp, and media consumption.
Just get the base M4 chip with 24GB RAM, and if you need more storage hook up an external SSD to it. Unless you really want to just spend the money, then go for the M4 Pro.
For what you mentioned the regular M4 is great. If you're trying to get into super intense video processing the M4 pro is the route. I bought the M4 with 512 SSD and 24 Gb unified memory along with the base M4 Pro. The regular M4 really impressed me, and I'm using it for stuff I thought I wouldn't.

Based on the benchmarks I was expecting far better results in Lightroom (11:32) and Final Cut (12:15). Is there a mistake here? I mean how is even the M2 Pro not much better than the M1/M2 in those tests? I'm still on my M1 and guess I definitely wouldn't get an M4, but was already planning on getting M4 Pro which seemed to do the same Lightroom test in 25 seconds.
It's great u r comparing these old and current gen Macs performance, but u should also create separate vid comparing GAMING performance of the native as well as translated games to see how it has progressed. I can guarantee u it will help your channel grow, just make sure these vids contain info like OS, game and API versions with of course same game settings. It would be also great to add optimization rating based on your experience. Games r still most popular apps so it would make sense to enter this field as well.
Get an external ssd or upgrade the nand chip to 2TB(in china the upgrade may cost you around $200-$250 or maybe less) if that kind of service is available in your place.
I have a question for you: Someone said their M4 Pro Mac Mini was getting very hot, so they returned it, fearing it would burn itself up. Do you have any thoughts on this?
So essentially the price / performance gap is so good that the next Mac Mini will be updated in 2026, thus giving this a M6 and M6 Pro chips. Thus the M6 will be capable of the M5 Pro chip. I don’t expect Apple to update Mac Mini in 2025.
"this is what the Mac mini should have always been"... In 2010 the old design was pretty groundbreaking. Intel NUCs were not yet a thing... and there was a DVD drive in it. Did Apple wait too long to update the design? Probably... but at least they waited until they could make the redesign a big deal.
When you only upgrade your cases every few years the upgrade looks massive. All of these price and size improvements have been a long time coming and the community has been asking for years. They did the right thing on the ram finally but Storage is still in the range price gouging on that mac mini.
@MaxTechOfficial thank you for this comprehensive review. I’m a big fan of your channel and I am looking forward for the detailed review of Mac Mini M4 Pro. I am thorned between the Mac Mini M4 and the Mac Mini M4 Pro model (both with 24GB RAM and 512GB SSD). I keep my PC’s for a very longtime so I want to future proof it as much as I can. I plan to do some advanced 4K@60fps video editing with footage from my iPhone using DaVinci Resolve. I am very sensitive to fan noise and I am afraid that the Mac Mini M4 Pro is louder than the Mac Mini M4.
I hate Geekbench; the results are inconsistent. Last year, it was all about how ‘the M3 is a big leap in power,’ but this year, with the release of the M4, the difference between the M2 and M3 seems to have vanished. Suddenly, the ‘M4 is incredibly faster than the M3.’ I like Apple, but the Mac Mini is still a scam-the SSD is slower than the M1 Mac Mini. Seriously, Apple: 256GB as the base storage, and only 16GB of RAM due to Apple’s ‘intelligence’; otherwise, it’s 8GB for another five years. Stop letting marketing manipulate you. Apple spends more on marketing than on Mac development. The M1 was only 50% faster, and the M4 doesn’t beat the M2 Pro (this is an honest opinion; if you don’t believe me, that’s your problem, but it’s the sad truth.we just had a new design it's the same you're going to say it's a good deal 16gb of ram!! it costs $20 to produce 8gb extra apple makes you dream of things that must be a standard
Definitely upgrade to 512GB. The write speed will be a lot faster but not so much the read. Probably will match the performance of M2 Pro SSD you see in this video
I was looking at buying an M1 for music production, but the prices make no sense... Why haven't prices come down on the m1s? For what you gain with the M4, I might as well spend the extra $100/200. This should have plummeted the price of the M1
In all fairness, the pc i'd recommend to my uncle is g3 mini that i can get for $50 and linux, but for me on the other hand...yes looking forward to an m4 pro benchmark comparison.

Could you do a test running the Mac mini with an external nvme sad as the boot drive. Apple's storage upgrade cost are ridiculous. How much of a hit in performance does it make?
Ur the benchmark king
Hey Max, thank you for the great review. What about noise level? M4 has fan but M1 does not.
I want to buy the Mac Mini M4 Pro, but I don't know whether to go for the 12 CPU core version or get the 14 CPU core version. Should I pay more for the extra cores or is it not worth it?
I will just wait for an year and buy a good condition used m4 pro mac mini for a very good price.
It's nice to see the progress of the M chip Mac mini. I'm a Windows guy, but have been a fan of the Mac mini since the M1 Mac Mini. I will miss the Type A port.
Hi. I am looking for mac for rendering and 3d modelling and architectural work. Please suggest me best option that I can get which will be future proof. I would like to use D5 render and lumion for my work.
Is a new studio display coming this year? Cant justify the price with the built-in power cord.
Thank you for these tests 😃👌🏻 How about fan noise in normal usage, while video editing, while coding etc? Sounds like the new Mini is not as silent as the old one which would be quite bad.
I can’t believe the also fit the power supply internally! This is a fantastic device - really good value.
The speaker really is a surprise.
Without the front ports the M4 Mac mini would truly be a thing of beauty. And yeah, I do realize most people will find them 'useful'.
Not surprising. Hardware and software is already so optimized for video that a low end chip like m4 can edit multiple 4K streams at once.
What do i need to run Civ7 at top speed is what i need to know…..
If you upgrade to 512GB SSD is it a better quality like on the M4 Pro?
I think it speed is limited by the chip controller in the base m4.🤷♂️
Looking forward to the M4 Pro review/comparison! Thank you for all your hard work on this!
What is the performance compared to AMD R9 with 780m NUC? For similar price, I can get it with 32gb ram and 2T storage
Thank you for doing the speaker test, appreciate it :)
Why not use an external SSD?
also the RAM, I won't complain if they priced the storage and ram upgrade in accordingly.
I won’t mention the power button…
The mini m4 is a much better deal new, but I feel this is better deal for my needs.
good deal👍
@@Skeptouchos If he does upgrade to the 512 Gb SSD he will get faster read and write times.
@@legacyShredder1Can you please make a video comparison between the base and the pro models in terms of fan noise (idle, medium workload, full) and thermals? That’s the only thing that holds me from pulling the trigger for the Pro version
@@legacyShredder1 The speed difference was significant in the previous generation, but that's not the case anymore. There are 2 NANDs on the chip this time, so it won't be anywhere near as slow as it was previously.
Value? Apple $400 to upgrade to 1TB, or retail, $111 for A Samsung 990 Pro that is more than twice as fast.
Don't act like you cannot buy an external SSD
Get an external ssd or upgrade the nand chip to 2TB(in china the upgrade may cost you around $200-$250 or maybe less) if that kind of service is available in your place.
the amount of value is good, until you want 256gb extra ssh and 8gb extra ram, boom.. 400 ish usd in my country
Then, the value just disappears. For future proofing it is essential to upgrade atleast the RAM. 🤷♂️
Can you make a video on m4 mini that either it can work on 10000mah powerbank ?
I would love to see how much difference there is in fluidity when designing in Fusion (360).
Can we please test the base mac mini with upgraded storage speed.. esp 512GB and 1TB?
My BlackMagic disk speed test shows Read 3415 MB/s and Write 3013 MB/sec for version 16GB/512GB.
@ thank you :) which means M4 pro’s SSD module is indeed a different speed
Some more of a Photoshop comparison would be nice. Like neural skin smoothing/ gen AI / remove tools etc. Awesome video guys.
I don't mind the Mac mini being bigger. That's more space for air circulation. the cooler the electronics the longer the life.
Yes, you nailed it. Don't expect a Mac mini update until M6 chips.
This means it's the perfect time for people to upgrade!
Can the m4 be powered via usb-c?
In the Mac mini sub Reddit, people are complaining there is a display issue with the hdmi cable! Any problems with that so far?
I don’t really care much for the smaller size. The old one was already small enough, plus I have a matching dock that now won’t fit the new size.
Do you recommend upgrade the storage to 512gb or base is fine? And how much slower is base model than upgraded 512gb ssd?
Definitely upgrade to 512GB. The write speed will be a lot faster but not so much the read.
Probably will match the performance of M2 Pro SSD you see in this video
My BlackMagic disk speed test shows Read 3415 MB/s and write 3013 MB/sec for Mac mini M4 16/512.
I can't recall a better value Apple, let alone PC, for this price. Incredible.
I was looking at buying an M1 for music production, but the prices make no sense...
Why haven't prices come down on the m1s?
For what you gain with the M4, I might as well spend the extra $100/200.
This should have plummeted the price of the M1
I found a good deal on m2 pro mac mini (600$) it's 512gb / 16gb ran
Should i buy it? Or buy the base m4 ?
is it brand new one?
@@niyazzmoithu20 i bought the m2 pro 16gb of ram and 512 of storage and am blown away . . .
It performed waaaaay better than expected
@@niyazzmoithu20 used and i bought it
The m2 pro mac mini
The size difference is absolutely insane
In all fairness, the pc i'd recommend to my uncle is g3 mini that i can get for $50 and linux, but for me on the other hand...yes looking forward to an m4 pro benchmark comparison.
Can you share that portable monitor link?
yes for sure: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C16DXSCZ
@ Thank you.
2:30 "These speakers." No. This speaker, there is only one of them fitted.
11:20 "But in the real world who's gonna would use that many tracks?" 197 tracks is nothing when it comes to film composers, if you didn't know yet. Well I guess those people including myself would be using Mac Studio or Mac Pro anyway... just saying.
But let's not forget about the price ladder. The M4 mac mini is actually $800. Who would sell a desktop computer with less than 512Gb of storage?
