I want to move back to Ontario, Canada, to live with family and raise bamboo.
So, as I would prefer to learn by your mistakes rather than my own. So could you advise, suggest what varieties of bamboo that thrives in your climate zone and where to acquire the seeds or cuttings.
We will want to make beds and furniture and bird cages toothpix ......
I wonder will it grow or survive in Minnesota's cold weather?
Hi. I also love Bamboo. I enjoy taking divisions for family and friends but it is so time consuming. After so many failed attempts at creating stem cuttings I am desperate for some help. Does anyone have a method they could share. Please.
William
are you growing Moso?
I am in Cleveland Ohio and would like to plant bamboo in planter boxes. is that possible?
Why not restore the indigenous bamboo? Arundinaria Gigantea has grown on this continent for millions of years. How do you know your exotics will not introduce some sort of blight that will wipe out a species that is already reduced to 2% of the area it covered 300 years ago?

Quite simply, for the same reason bamboo is so hardy... it's blightproof. Most bamboo (including all zone 5 and zone 6 tolerant varieties) is naturally resistant to harmful fungi and bacteria. The majority of worldwide bamboo depletion, is the combined result of recent (last 50yrs) mass flowering events and unfavorable conditions to germination. When you combine these with the widespread view of bamboo as an invasive plant, and their low resistance to nearly all broadleaf herbicides... it doesn't take long to see the results.
