Thanks for posting this. I had the ones that stick on the outside of the frame, but despite pre-cleaning the surface with alcohol, in the rain they leaked badly. If you were to remove these, do you think the adhesive inside the channel will make a mess impossible to clean up?

Not at all, it's not very good adhesive, but then again, it doesn't need to be.
