    This is the 1st video I have watched on this channel. I subscribed right after finishing your video x about your coloring journey in Millie Martha's beautiful coloring book series. I also have one of each of her art coloring books. I also just started to try coloring a page, almost any page. There are many talented artists that I "found" through Amazonboth US page and I also bought coloring books from Amazon U.K; Amazon Germany; Amazon France; Amazon Japan; Etsy, Ebay, Alia, and others. I love this golden age of well printed and designed coloring books. The highest quality books use cardstock, watercolor paper, slightly textured paper that grabs the different colored pencils.
    I have of an entire bookcase filled with the books I found, created and designed by very talented artists that I would buy 2 copies of each book -- 1 to keep blank as I thought the artwork alone in black or grey lines was just as beautiful, and the 2 copy of the coloring book I used almost every type of art mediums to play around again, filled with gleeful thrill. So much beauty, a simple joy.

    I am so relieved that I am not the only one who struggle with Marotta's books. Although, I have to admit I own many of her books in showing of admiration of her artwork. I noticed that the pages that you have completed are awesome regardless of your hesitation to do so. Weldone Jackie. Still, you are inspiring lots of us. Thanks.

      I agree, it’s beautiful drawing but I just don’t seem to colour it well enough 😄 thanks for watching.

    I enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing your completed pages from these books. I love Millie's artwork and nearly exclusively only colour in her books, despite also owning other books by other artists. I find that Millie's artwork is very versatile and the images lend themselves to many different colouring styles and techniques. While I appreciate that we all have our own preferences when it comes to colouring book artists and their styles, I enjoy Millie's illustrations and the subject matter of her books much more than a lot of other colouring books that seem to be much more popular in the colouring community.

      You colour Millie’s books so beautifully - you were on my mind when I said that I enjoy looking at how others colour these books 😉 As colourists we are lucky to have so many different types of styles to choose from and so many amazing artists to inspire us, there really is something for everyone 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Your coloring is great in Milly Morotta books! I've avoided mine because the images intimidate me. Beautiful work!

    I’ve enjoyed watching this very much and the honesty behind the pages. I too really struggle knowing how to colour these beautiful pages. I love watching everyone complete them, but do find it is a personal challenge to know how to approach them❤

    Yes I have a very hard time with her books. I noticed on UA-cam that the ones that look nice the person just colored the picture as a whole and didn’t pay attention to the patterns anyhow I think you did great

    • @spare_room_studio
      @spare_room_studio  8 місяців тому +3

      Thank you ❤️ Yes, I think the best results are when people ignore the patterns, but for some reason when I sit down to colour these images my brain seems to be locked into thinking “it’s there, therefore it must be acknowledged” 🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting, Jackie

    Interestingly you just explained every reason why I haven't been coloring in the Millies books😉 I have 4, soon as I figured out I couldn't use my medium of choice I gave up.
    I love her illustrations, but like you I struggle to enjoy the process.
    What I found very interesting was through the style you exhibited, I could really see your art traing/ talent. I very much enjoyed you sharing your experience and colored pages in these books ❤ Thank you for sharing & elaborating😊

      Thanks for watching and commenting…..I do feel it’s helpful to show all the pages (warts and all 🤣) because we can learn a lot from each of them. I don’t look at these books often, but when I got them out to do the video I could see the struggles I had and the progression of experimenting. And, what I hated when I did them, I am now able to look at them in a different way and appreciate what they show me 👍

    You have done a great job on most of these. They are really pretty. Very pretty colours.
    I have no idea how to colour these illustrations. I have 2 of the large and 1 pocket sized books of Millie's but I've only coloured a few because I can't work out a style to cope with the tiny sections.

    I have a number of her books and I have yet to pick up my pencils as I dont know how to start, I made a mess on one page. This was a great example of how to approach pages. Your pages are beautifully done even though you are critical of some of them but we are always our harshest critics ! Thank you you have given me some knowledge on how best to approach these books x

      Yes, it’s a tough one, I really like how the watercolour washes look but the paper bleeds quite bad considering it feels nice, and it’s not Amazon paper but lots of things go right through….

    Thank you for sharing your pages! Was really interesting to see your style change throughout the books. That shark is absolutely gorgous!
    I have similar feelings about her art. I have her first compilation book and that's gonna last me a lifetime lol. I realized after getting more books by other artists that I prefer other styles. But I get back to it two or three times a year when I feel experimental and treat it as a "no expectations" book. So while it is not one of my favourite books, it is propably the one with my most creative work lol. I just wish the paper would take water better :(

    • @spare_room_studio
      @spare_room_studio  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I think approaching with it with no expectations is probably the way to go - I will try these books again one day 🤞 Being unable to use water is probably the biggest hurdle for me with these books. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I also started with Millie Marotta as an adult colouring experience. I liked just put down random colours and realised that doesn’t really work. Also I didn’t get that some media don’t work on the paper so got frustrated . I did get on better with the postcards and did a load of those, as long as the picture wasn’t shrink too much. I need to revisit the books though. I have an Artists edition of Wild Savannah, that was my favourite in the soft back and I’ve not touched it

      Thank you, creativity is very subjective - we all see things differently and like different things. I like to be honest about my thoughts (especially about my own work 😄) and feel it’s okay to respectfully say I don’t like something, and usually try to explain what it is I don’t like. It’s not criticism as such, just thinking aloud. I enjoy the majority of the pages I colour even if they don’t end up as I thought they might 😊 Thanks for watching, I appreciate your comment and hope you enjoy the channel, regards, Jackie

    I also bought two of her books very early in my coloring hobby.. and she taught me that I hate zendoodle lol. I very quickly starting ignoring most of it and just leaving the designs showing through while coloring the subject like they were not there. I also hate the unfinished eyes that are common in her books, eyes are difficult to draw and species specific.. most wildlife artists will tell you it is the place to start and the "soul" of the animal when doing a portrait...it seems extremely odd to do so much work on the rest of the drawing and leave the most important part blank.
    The biggest issue for me though was the paper. In the US versions it's thick, but extremely absorbent and smooth at the same time. It sucks up paint/ink terribly, and seems to resist pencil both wax and oil. Nothing worked well.. I tried every pencil and pen I owned, as well as watercolor, and wasn't happy with the process or the end result in any of them. I don't mind using one technique or product in fussy paper.. but there has to be at least one. The best thing I found was Arteza Expert, which are very soft and waxy and seemed to "grab" that glassy paper better...however even those were way less nice in finish than any other paper I had used them on.. and then only after manually blending out every inch of the image with a blender pencil. Since her books are not small this was a massive addition to time and effort. I finally rehomed them and went on my way, and although I'm tempted by the lovely subject matter I haven't bought another of her books since. My coloring has one purpose, to make me happy, and if it's not doing that it needs to go.
    I do wish she would consider some non-zendoodle works.. she is actually very talented and her anatomical accuracy is some of the best out there for animal art. It bugs me to no end to color animals that are done in a realistic style but aren't "correct" and look slightly deformed. All of her animals are well drawn, and she has a real talent in posing animals in natural yet interesting positions.

      😁 some books can give that immediate reaction! I accidentally bought some AI books that had the weirdest stuff in them that didn’t make any sense….most of them actually went straight in the bin after colouring just one page! At this point in time I feel like I have so many books I do enjoy colouring I’ve pushed these MM books aside, maybe one day I might come back to them, maybe not. But I do enjoy seeing others colour them beautifully. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 👍

    • @waymire01

      @@spare_room_studio I refuse to buy anything AI. My daughter is an artist and I've seen how badly it has affected her friends who are professional artists. So much of their steady income is from commercial art, and AI is replacing the need for their talent. Why would anyone pay an artist and give them the time to do good work when someone with no talent necessary can turn out images on demand in minutes? It's getting harder to determine which coloring books are actually drawn, especially on Amazon..many are falsely advertised or even have fake artist bios. They have started a group called Only. Human. Art. that is certifying products.. kind of like the animal safe certifications for products. Colouring Heaven Magazine has joined which is great, hopefully it will catch on and help consumers be able to buy with more confidence.

    Does anyone know which pens you can use to color Millie moratta books that won't bleed through to the other side? I'm dying to color this book, and have purchased three different brands with no success

      Gel pens won’t go through but personally I’m not a fan of colouring large areas with those….lighter coloured waterbased markers are okay too if you don’t “scrub” at the surface of the paper. I’ve found these books need a really light touch. Thanks for watching!
