    My studio mate got this one about 15 years ago but he sold it after 2 months because of the simple sounds. This is proof of what I already knew back then how stupid he was especially because his goal was to play life. It's an awesome machine!!!

    • @notgonnatakeit1
      @notgonnatakeit1 8 років тому +4

      Don't forget, tr909, tb303, sh101, hell even jupiter 8 are simple sounds. It's what you do with them. Simple sounds don't hold your hand and make music for you but if you use them creatively they are very if not more musical than complex motion filled sounds. It just means the motion has to be the music.

    Hi Raffaele, I do and it works fine for me. I would check your RM1X's internal battery as I believe that can cause undesired operation when it loses power.

  • @personedesign

    nice track and best use of sections that i've seen yet... any particular concept for them? looks like you're using them for different key changes perhaps, and also mixing with them for breakdowns, builds and fills? also progressing through a few grooves... I have used the box for years, but still have yet to formulate a good track standard playing format with regards to scenes... figured out phrases, so onwards & upwards! again nice tune and inspiring performance technique!

    Hi
    How do I set the Swing in the input so its "not that" sensitive and rather corrects my input into at least 16/th notes BUT keeps the velocity?

    • @RaveTracks
      @RaveTracks  7 років тому

      You can't. You have to apply the swing afterwords via the Groove function.

    Can't wait to replace the switches on mine. It's still fun to mess around with, but too many switches have died over the years, and it is limiting what I'm able to do with it.

    • @RaveTracks
      @RaveTracks  9 років тому

      +InterruptRequest It amazes me that the thing is built like a tank apart from the switches! Are you replacing them yourself?

    • @StimorolChewingGum
      @StimorolChewingGum 9 років тому

      +RaveTracks It was stuck in the top shelf of a wardrobe for a few years, and my mum had stacked other stuff on top, so some of the switches were pressed down during all that time, hence why they died. Yeah, I did electronics in school, and I'm quite confident with a soldering iron, so replacing those shouldn't be too difficult.

    • @RaveTracks
      @RaveTracks  9 років тому

      I did the switches repair on mine and I can tell you its a right pain in the arse. I foolishly de-soldered the switches in tact and then later found out its best if you cut them off a de-solder the legs individually. As a result I damaged quite a few of the tracks so had to do some bodge repairs. However it all worked in the end and now they work like a charm. The next thing I'm going to do is mod the key LEDs so there's an orange LED then four reds to make it easier to program in grid mode. Will you be uploading a vid when your up and running?

    • @StimorolChewingGum
      @StimorolChewingGum 9 років тому

      +RaveTracks We shall see. I've not really done any composing for years now, and I'm extremely rusty when it comes to using my RM1x, but hopefully, if things work out, I might actually make something worth listening to. I'm really impressed with your tracks though. Especially this one. :)

      Hi Jerry, thanks for the comment. I pre wrote the track before hand. I don't tend to use presets unless I'm making a vid thats specifically about presets.

    Are you using any external compression while recording or something because Jesus Jumpin Christ this machine is full of high saturated fatness!

  • @MattGreerMusic
    @MattGreerMusic 10 років тому +2

    Either you are able to tweak this unit beyond all normally achieved levels of utilization or people are just retarded when they bash on the quality of the on board sounds. Seriously, what is bad about the sound here? I mean, for something entirely in the box, it sounds very polished. I can only imagine what track on track tricks in a DAW could do with this unit.

    • @RaveTracks
      @RaveTracks  10 років тому +3

      Very kind words Matt. The raw sounds are very basic but in my opinion good solid building blocks. Once you add the filters, fx, sequencer and control of MIDI in to the mix, you have an incredible powerful production suite that just need a bit of imagination. Its tough nut to crack, about 3 months if I remember, but boy was it worth it. Without a doubt my favourite groove box. The biggest downfall is you cant swap between play and record without stopping the unit. I assume this was just a limitation of the processing power because some things become disable when recording. I don't think I'd ever connect it to a DAW because the thing that makes it great is the fact that its completely stand alone. :)

    • @MattGreerMusic
      @MattGreerMusic 10 років тому +2

      Good points. I try not to turn it on unless I have 2-3 hours to burn. It sucks me in every time.

    • @ifthebeltiscrackedor
      @ifthebeltiscrackedor 7 років тому

      Matt Greer Music Its hard to understand and basically its how an interface works when o n l y nerds are in the design team and theres no Steve Jobs around.. But as that thing alone is interesting and as it unlocks loads of sounds in weird categories that are all tweakeable I think its just rumours or an effect of todays kids that only understands instant satisfaction. This is not instant satisfaction. Its hard studies and devotion that is needed to make complete songs in it. Ive come to manage to create and modify loops arranged into something I can mix records with. In fact I listen to a record and out of the record I create something nice that fits that record. I have also become a fan of the arpeggio function (resembles modular synth function so to speak).

      ***** is it possible to insert mute/unmute messasges into a phrase? for example, i'd like a phrase that mutes itself at the end. Similarly, when changing into a new section, I'd like to have the mute states pre-programmed... is this possible, and if not, how do you manage this, do you make sure to unmute everything in the preceeding section, before the transition?
