They are such great people at Baker Creek. They produced a show at the cinema county fairgrounds on Heirloom vegetables. I was contacted and gave them Gardens for their first years. The owner and the staff are so down to earth and so nice.
Baker Creek has some awesome options you won't find anywhere else. Mini melons for smaller yards and single living. Lots of groovy things. I have 2 needy felines here, too. Doing kale and chard this year for the first time.
Just wanted to say thank you for this video, I referenced it last year when I was getting seeds for my first garden and I had more success with these crops than others did with years of experience. I went to start my seed order again and came back for reference yet again. Love the this channel, so helpful and inspiring!
Thank you for the recommendations Patera! I have used Baker Creek for years - I love their family story and mission. What a treat when I am able to visit their Wethersfield, CT location and 'shop'.
We love our Baker Creek seeds! We're still in the experimenting stage for some seeds, but we also have some that we resort back to each year as well! Great variety you had there! ~Jeni
I bought the Tennis Ball lettuce and planted it mid March under my poly tunnel. Let me tell you all, it is the best lettuce I've ever grown! So delicious and prolific. Even my hubby loves it. Thanks Patara. I bought all the recommended seeds on the list, ha, ha. Looking forward to trying them all!
I recently moved to Idaho from Arizona. I finally got the hang of gardening in AZ, but now am starting over. I am here at my table surrounded by seed books and seed magazines and was wondering, "now that Ive decided to grow heirloom plants that I can harvest the seeds from, where do I start next?" I decided to jump in with both feet knowing nothing about any seed I was going to order and began my list from a seed savers exchange catalogue. Then my internet went down so I couldn't order. :) I believe you've helped me tremendously to at least know of a few tried and true vegetables that you've grown. I'm going to try your list and pray. : ) Thank you huge! You are adorable! I love your enthusiasm and learned so much from you too about caring for our hens in snow and below zero temperatures! To my amazement, we even have a few Arizona hens that are willing to lay eggs in this crazy winter weather. : ) So proud of those girls! Thanks again!!!!
KuRazee lady!!!!😃 I hit the like and subscribe because of....Mr. Peaches. I too purchase seeds from Baker Creek. Love them! I have six elevated raised garden beds (my ERBs) and am growing rainbow carrots, scarlet nantes, Kyoto reds, Parisienne globes, blacks, and ....MANPUKUJI!!! I built a new bed right after ordering the manpukuji carrots from Bakers Creek! In addition to tomatoes, Japanese cucumbers, squash, sweet potatoes etc., I grow lettuce, however, I eat basil on pizza, sandwiches and in soups more than anything and my head exploded!!!! when you mentioned lime basil. Never even heard of it. I'll be ordering it soon. I can not do more tomatoes. Up to my eyeballs with the 6 varieties I have going (I have to stop myself!!!). But you're absolutely correct about the meatiness of that variety, it matters. Love the info, love your energy, love Mr. Peaches! ❤️
My gardening has not been the best the past few attempts. Your video is inspired me to give it another shot this year. Never heard of it I am basil or Israeli cucumbers but now playing to try them both! Thanks
Wonderful. Thank you soooo much. Went directly to baker creek and locked these 11 seeds up for my garden this year. Nice to have a homestead approved list to get. Boom !!! Done that !!! After all this rain in sunny California I'm looking forward to spring.
I eat my peas like that too, Patara. Last year I didn't plant enough, they didn't make it into the kitchen usually. My grand daughter loved them as well. I can't get her to eat peas from a can, but she will eat them straight from the vine. I love it. The first thing she would do when she visited was go check out what she could pick and eat from the garden. Also when anyone would visit she would give them a tour and tell them all about what was growing. It makes my chest swell with pride. Thnx for sharing.
Just bought, "The Whole Seed Catalog" from Baker Creek last week! Even though I can't have a garden I still get catalogs every year and pick what I will grow someday when I can garden again. :) I will buy seeds and save them too.
I had never heard of lime basil until you mentioned it in an earlier video, I will have to try it. I grow regular basil with my tomatoes and love that in my cooking, and in my salads.
Loved the topic of this video! We've been getting serious about our little vegetable garden and can't wait to do it on a larger scale. When we started we made the mistake of of buying a gazillion seeds w/o knowing which ones were reliable producers in our area. Yup, we had lots of failures and it was discouraging. Now we ask around which is great, but hearing your successes and what you like about them is awesomely helpful :)! We're hoping you do more like this and continue to share your successes :)!
90% of our garden was Baker Creek seed last year with many successes and quite a few will repeat this year also! the only seed in common with your picks is the chard which we loved, loved loved! we are in NE GA and similar zone to you. Lots of success with dwarf bok choy, Morris heading collards and red beauty, Tom thumb lettuces. we're harvesting daily from the winter garden but still excited for spring!
yes, Baker Creek! It's fun to try growing something new yearly, and then stock to those good old staples! I'm looking forward to planting in the spring and to start sharing some videos of the garden! Thanks for sharing your faves Patara!
Gainesboro, TN here on 100 acre farm 80 of it wooded. We have gotten to the point we mostly do raised beds and sfg but we do have a 5 acre fenced garden. I've had favas, sugar snap, and snow peas growing since November. They are 4' tall now waiting on warmth to promote blossoms. I grow a lot of medicinal and culinary herbs. I also grow a lot of blood sorrel it's available year round and is a perennial. Our beans our usually greasy grits and kentucky blue wonder. Greasy grit is native to TN. My fav canning tomatoes are san marzanos I love em right off the vine too. Black krims I love the sweetness. We also grow a lot of asian cabbages I can grow them all winter long. I've probably spent over 1k on Baker Creek over the last year.
Just ordered, thanks. Couldn't find the Missouri wonders. Going to winter sow in milk jugs in the snow belt. Worked about 80% last year. Thanks for the tip.
Love Baker Creek ! I order from many every yr...High Mowing Seeds definitely included--so is Johnny's & Burpee (usually), etc., , but Baker Creek is my main go to now every yr...
I planted some rattlesnake beans a couple of years ago. So good!!!! Now that I have a garden again I'm planting them again. Can't wait to eat em fresh and can them up for later.
I love Baker's Creek... I've ordered from them many times over the years, and they are a pleasure to do business with.. Right now I'm growing Golden Cheyenne peppers, and Pineapple variety tomatoes from seed I got from them.. I was surprised the size of some of these tomatoes.. Very large, and beautiful red & gold coloring.. I just ordered a couple Eggplant variety seeds as well from them.. Prosperosa, and giant Iraqi Aswad..
So excited for the perfect timing of this video. Had added more to my wish list just hours before this. Perfect excuse to add to my list and order today. Thanks so much !!! Looks forward to growing big this year.
Watched the entire video, liked and commented - Love beautiful/charming ladies in a cap and ponytail; can't help it. Best was Top Gun cap - takes me back to my naval aviation experiences. Great recommendations, great recommender, and great presentation!! 4 years older, but still very sound advice!
I have ordered Bonny Best, Beit Alpha, lime basil, Rainbow Chard, the zinnias and cosmos, along with the sunflowers you recommended in another video. I am trying to find the ones that work for me. I can't wait!
Mr. Peaches!!! I love Baker Creek Seeds. I know I've bought too many already, but I've got raised beds & hope to put in more. Last year I learned al lot from planting too closely so I chalked it up to experience & I'm looking forward to SPRING!!!
I really do want to meet you someday, once I get settled, get a better car n can travel, thank you for the enthusiasm, you honestly tell people the honest truth and don't sugar coat things and I appreciate that about you🤗😊
Would you please update us on your favorite seeds? I love Baker's Creek-awesome! Love your videos and so appreciate you for taking the time and effort to help educate others! You are da bomb! Lol
I'm the same I have my favorites of a few things. Still experimenting to find my favorites of a few things. Ion in northern bc canada and I raise the rainbow Swiss chard we love it . Even in the northern climate it produces like crazy.
EDIT: Patara, I usually grow Blue Lake Bush but thought I'd order some of the Missouri Wonder. I'm guessing BC doesn't carry them anymore even though it's only been a few months since your video. Don't even see them listed as "out of stock" now on their site. We are still in suburbia and doing what we can but I learned a few years ago that Baker Creek has the best seeds by far of any I've tried. Loved hearing that you use them, too. The germination rate is always so high, even on seeds I've had for several years. On another note, I'm telling you, Patara, I am so jealous. :) Seriously, I can't wait til we can get out of the city and back to the country. Thanks for all the videos and information you share. Love it all!
Patara, the amount of rap songs you know makes me so stinking happy lol Thanks for the video. Came back to watch this to get some ideas for October gardening in zone 6 :( maybe not the best idea for me lol

The best sweet corn I've ever had is Silver Queen. It will grow well in your area. If you've never tried it it's a real winner.
I really love watching you, thank you for your honesty and for all the information you share 🤗😊.

It's January, time to order from Baker Creek!
Mornin Patara. I just wanted to let you know that I ordered my heritage seeds from Baker Creek yesterday per your recommendation. We actually decided not to have a winter garden and simply used our efforts in adding compost, quail/rabbit/chicken/turkey manure to the area where our spring garden will be. I hope it pays off :)
have a blessed day!
Try the Oxheart carrot if you have a rocky soil. It's supposed to do great since it's short but wide, but I haven't tried it myself
Thank you for information I was getting a little overwhelmed with trying to pick for this year
Patara you are just a pretty cute little dynamo of energy. I am the same way with my pets. My pets make me laugh because of all the human like ways they try to get attention. Yes I got 4 little small dogs who think they are humans. They are full of love jealousy companionship playfulness and greediness!!. They all make me laugh. Thankyou Pattara for your videos. John from Hemet, Ca.
Oh please do another baker creek one! Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestions! I ordered the lime basil you recommended and can't wait to try it! Also got the tennis ball lettuce and a few other goodies I'm excited to try this year.

They have beautiful digital design envelope than my purchase yesterday ( Baker Creek brand too) i think they changed it nowadays, i love old envelope design.
Great video, I will have to try to get some Bonny Best seeds. Also I would like to second your recommendation about zinnias bringing in pollinators also on a whim I planted two Tithonia or Mexican Sunflower seeds and they were amazing each bush was huge and they really brought in pollinators.
Yes, the Mexican Sunflowers are wonderful for bees, butterflies, practically any of the pollinators! 🌼🐝🦋
Great video. This is my second year ordering from them. I believe that I am getting the rainbow chard. I'll have to check out the others. I learned my lesson about ordering early. Last year I had my eye on a bunch of seeds that were sold out by the time I got around to ordering
Have you ever tried lemon cucumbers? We love them. Need to peel before eating because we find the skin a bit tougher than other cukes. Thanks for the seed suggestions.
Just went and ordered my seeds from there! Cant wait!! 💜
Lemon basil omgosh i grow all the time
Wow! I bought their catalogue from my local Lowes. I had highlighted about half of your picks. I'm looking forward to ordering very soon! Have you ever grown the roselle hibiscus? I'mI'm really looking forward to growing thise, kabocha squash and everything this year! HAPPY PLANTING!

EXCELLENT recommendations!!! I shall try them out and let you know. (including the carrots)
I hear ya, on eating the snap peas in the garden. If they make it to the kitchen, we like to dip them raw in hummus.
They are so good!
I am ready for spring!!!!
Just got my Baker creek seed catalog. Ty
Thanks for the suggestions! Oxheart carrots worked well in Georgia in our hard, red clay. Just a carrot suggestion you may want to try :)
Thanks!
it is so hard to believe we are garden planning already!!
Sugar snap pea the greens are good in salad or stir fry! Can you do leather britches with Missouri wonder beans? Have you tried carrot green soup? What is the advantage of growing zinnias? Joy? I have never heard of Lime Basil! How interesting!!
Very important video. Thank you.
Enjoyable, useful reviews. Baker Seed is great! Considering how tender that cucumber 🥒 variety is what sort of pest problems have you had? Besides containers on our patio and bare spots in our neighborhood to sneak in ornamentals(zinnias anyone?), we have two small veg plots.
Loved the 🐈 cat integration! Give Mr. Peaches a hug. Have a great growing season. 🌱
So enjoyed Mr. Peaches in his cameo role as adorably cute and slightly annoying scene interrupter!!! I hope this question isn't redundant, but I wonder, with the back to Eden method, do you sow the seeds to the proper depth in the wood chips or do you wait to measure the sowing depth until you get to the level of the soil? Hope that was clear enough...... Also, thank you everso for sharing your seed faves, that is something that helps us newbies immensely!! Saves oodles of trial and error, although I must admit to being smitten with veggie infatuation when it comes to all the tomato varieties that Baker has to offer............mmmmmmmmmmmm, all those delish looking photos and descriptions.......however do you keep from ordering 1 of each and just going to town in the garden??? Any advice for the tomato smitten among us would be invaluable!! :-)
You've inspired me to order my free catalogue and start ordering!! Thank you for sharing! 🤗
Thanks! Going to give a couple of those a try this year. 😊
Patara, have you ever tried Winter Sowing in milk jugs or other plastic containers? I'm giving it a whirl for this first time this year for growing my tomatoes and peppers - I'm optimistic!
