I use the safe bloc on just about every job. Some things are inconvenient about it but they can all be overcome. For me, I just like having the friction up at the rigging point so I’m not doubling the weight on the rig point from the wrapping device. Unless I have to do a fishing pole rig, I’m using the safebloc.

Nice. I should use it a lot more than I do...

I rarely use the safe block i find maybe because of my inexperience with it to not have it just come to a crashing halt.

Really nice to have some control over the friction up there, sometimes you just don't know how well your groundie is trained... Shook some climbers badly when I started. Is retrieval of the rope back to the climber ok though? Seems like a bit of work to get it back through.

I'm not super hip to the way the Safe-Bloc pinches onto itself sometimes. I'm sure most guys would say I'm just paranoid....i just have a visceral aversion to wear on the line...

lot of people don't like how the rope rubs on itself. Doesn't bother me, both parts of line are moving. Modern trainings have scared youngsters to death of rope on rope friction, all just depends on the situation. All the best Samuel.... - Patrick

Why such a long run? Did this 1000's of times, Always with a static rescue rope NEVER climbing rope.. Had a climber that would do 10-12 footers with nearly 16'dia if he thought they could get cut for lumber. , but thats a heck of a jolt. we always keep them tight and short as possible. PEACE!

Typically it’s to reduce the impact of the log, if it hits at the base of the tree your less likely to get rocked off your gaffs rather than right under him higher on the pole

@@cjgromlich1242 That is true, but depending what that rope in going through, could be lots of friction, or they could have a break system, but it looked like guy on ground was letting the slack run , guessing 1/2 wrap at base..
Its all good, Just never had a guy in the tree that wanted that much run,( the guy that did it with 10-12 footers wanted it held, but he grew up under dads business that was more logging then removals ) and Ive never had someone on the ground enough to trust them. On closing note 32 years nobody has even gotten a stitch or hurt on my site. PEACE

Harder to take friction out of a system like this. Is it even worth over a traditional block or ring?

Lol even though you know it's good, do you get that creepy feeling sending a log like that over a structure? I do..even after 13 years. Get that little tickle in my gut " fuck I hope that goes how I think it's gonna go"
