I’m a finish carpenter who also has well north of 100 staircases and your staircase needs to have at least 1.25 inches of overhang on the finished stairs. Walking up is not a trip hazard. But coming down the wider step gives you more to step on. This is also a national building code requirement. YOU NEVER FALL going up. GOING DOWN is very dangerous .

We are your neighbors over in Pike, NH and our power was out through the whole time-frame of this video! It went out around 630 AM on the warm rainy day and came on around 6 PM on the super cold day. Pretty jealous that you didn't even know about all the disruption outside your little homestead haven. We were alright with our woodstove and I had filled the stock tanks when I saw the power flickering, but I would give a lot to have your systems in place. You're on the right track and we're rooting for you!

Al, I would like to point out a safety issue for you. While watching you use that table saw, it made me nervous seeing the drawstring hanging down from your hoodie sweatshirt. It only takes one time; and I know you wont think it will happen, but if that drawstring falls down into the saw and pulls you into it... Anyway, I would not want anything bad to happen to you. I know sometimes we get so focused on getting work done, we don't focus on potential safety. I remember the nail gun going into your hip. Everyone, please be safe. Happy New Year to you all.

That tree line across the meadow from the front door is a great focal point for looking outside. Regarding the unfinished stairs, because you have a concrete floor, the sound echoes. When finishing the stairs, a sound absorbent material should be considered. Gina is definitely going to town with those cookies. You don't need store bought when you have home cooking.

Al, you need to teach your wife or daughter to do carpentry as a backup for when you lose a thumb or fingers from not using push sticks or fence guards or any other table saw safety practices. You might get by for a long time without a kickback or slip, but I have two very experienced carpenter friends who have lose the last joint on a thumb or part or all of a finger pushing boards with their hands without a push stick.

Rain Tarp on PVC stand for working the saws in the rain. Easy to rig up. PVC is slipped together and taken apart easily. If you ever go to a convention center exhibit when venders set up...they use PVC pipe dividers and backdrops and etc. that are easy to breakdown and load up for away to the next show. So you rain tarp could do the same.

Figaro is a very smart cat. I bet he knows how dangerous it really is out there right now. Chances are he can hear or maybe even smell some of the larger more deadly predators in the area. Later, when you have been living there for awhile, he might venture out for a day after those other animals have moved away from the area. Have a great New Year Lumnahs 🎊🎉✨

Just a tip when measuring between to lines, line up one side with the one inch line on the tape measure and then subtract one from what you get at the other end. It's much easier to match your pencil line to the line on the tape then trying to get the hook on the end of the tape in the exact right place.

My cats were indoor out door, they'd bring me their catch, leave part of it at the front door. I had one also that brought the darn bird or rodent inside to finish killing it under my bed. They were very grateful cats that wanted to share with me🙄 Idk gotta love em! ❤❤❤🤗👍

  • @daniellesduckheadhomestead3127

Expanding the land is going to be nice. We are in the process of building a new homestead as well. We are squeaking by slow. We put the well and on grid electric in the year before last. Then this past year started on a small shed. We are clearing the land by ourselves as we can. One day home to build a house that will be a few years though. You all are what I call warp speed mode compared to us.
Good luck on your adventures. Thanks for sharing. Take care, see ya :)
