This is my feeling. Daemon does love his family and is loyal to them. He wants his brother’s attention and he gets bored easy. That’s why he’ll go along with this war. IMO, that douche OTTO doesn't want the Brothers to meet at any cost, Daemon did all those theatrics to get Viserys to come to him. If they meet, things would be resolved coz they really like eachother & Daemon would be back at Kings Landing and It'd make Otto's life miserable as Daemon would call out his shit. He went to Dragonstone to escalate things get Viserys permission to act strictly or Kill Daemon. Also Otto proposed Rhaenyra as Heir as it would be easier to Replace her than Daemon when time comes for Otto's Grandsons. That's y he's trying hard to get rid of Daemon.

Spent 4 weeks in the hospital hallucinating from my fever and whatever the docs gave me and made good friends with the heart monitor next to my bed that I thought was a person. While marrying the 12 year old is obviously morally icky, it was 100% the right move politically. We saw with Ned and Rob Stark what happens with rulers who try to use their heart to lead instead of their brain.
Like any man, Viserys chooses his wife not based on politics or personality but on how willing she is to enable his miniature hobby. (Even if he doesn’t paint his like a filthy casual but no one’s perfect.)

Daemon wouldn’t hurt his family unless they hurt him I would say. Also the king made the dumbest move politically speaking the Velaryon girl woulda been easily the best no comparison. Otto would have been in Viserys' ear for all of those years, whispering, undermining, and causing problems between Corlys and Viserys, same as Otto is doing with Daemon and Viserys. Viserys can immediately start trying with Alicent, and she is Otto's daughter. Naturally, Otto will immediately start poisoning the king's ear to cast aside Rhaenyra for his own grandchild, but it's a tossup on which is more problematic, Corlys angry at Viserys marrying Alicent, or Corlys being the target of Otto's machinations to divide Viserys and Corlys. Otto thinks he succeeded with Daemon, but Daemon knows exactly what Otto is, and exactly how weak his brother is.

Concerning the intro credits. It is a representation of the Targaryen bloodline going from Aegon I.. If a sigil is submerged in blood, the person is dead. It's a bit messy to recognize if you don't know the family, but the sigil representing Rhaenyra has the image or Rhaenyra's pendant which Deamon gave her. Also... I would very gently recommend to remember a certain name mentioned in this episode. Vhagar. She's very important for what is to come.

I mean yes Rhyennera's standing is legitimate by her fathers decree, but rightfully it is Daemons

I still feel Daemon is loyal...follow his words carefully in these scenes, he made be a loose cannon, but I don't see him as a traitor...even in the last scene he scolds that "he" can talk about his brother but not the Master of Ships. We also never hear him say "Heir for a day" and he never actually admits he did....also in the very scene, others were enjoying the pleasure house, he looked down, he was not saying anything until Mysteria?sp prompted him to say something....I actually think she is spying on Daemon for the hand and that her motivations are more complex than she's letting on...
Correct. Daemon is a prince, and a Targareyan. People often misunderstand his warning to Corlys. Corlys was treading into treason territory, and Daemon reminded him of that.
He's ruthless but I haven't seen anything that would suggest he would kill Viserys to get the crown. Or do anytihng to put Viserys or Rhaenys life in danger.
I completely understand you feeling uncomfortable with the King potentially marrying a 12 year old; even marrying Alicent is uncomfortable for me. If he had chosen the 12 year old, I would've stopped watching the show. That's a line I'm glad they didn't cross & I would not be able to bring myself to watch if they had crossed it. It's still hard watching with him marrying a 15 year old. I get it, it's fictional but still. And it is all about politics that's for sure. I feel sorry for the women, all they are, are political pawns. It's sad really.
The politics and the back and forth is one of the best parts of Game of Thrones. You'll need to get use to those times not being our times. Women married young. The show is not focused towards making people feel comfort.

They did everything they could to emphasize how young Laena was, including having her walk right next to the king so the camera can show the massive height difference. Women bare children….. it’s incredibly valuable. There is nothing wrong with a kingdom recognizing this and benefitting to promote political stability. In the fiction doing this is simple and smart.

I think the pacing of this episode was way, WAY too fast, and so much is just being breezed through that they could really have gone into depth on. Take Daemon for instance. They could have shown him skulking and angry at Runestone, established why he hates his wife so much and how desperate he is for Viserys’ approval before plotting to seize Dragonstone as a way to get his attention. Then in the second episode, he links up with his friends in the Gold Cloaks, steals the egg and takes the castle from his brother’s garrison while also giving more depth to the captains of the watch and why they’re so loyal to him. Then in the third episode, there’s a real focus on how to deal with him and what the Crown’s response should be whereas instead they just shot right through all of this and it was essentially over before it began. Likewise, Viserys’ announcement of marriage to Alicent was also too early in the series. We’ve now missed out on the possibility of more scenes where they’re best friends with each other with no problems, now the drama over the marriage will break their friendship apart as well as giving more development to Alicent and exploring how she feels about all of this. I would have pushed the proposal back to episode four or five at least, there was so much they could have done with this stage of their friendship that now feels like we’re never going to see again. The same applies to Criston Cole who gets fast tracked into the Kingsguard with lightning speed. Now, it makes sense that Rhaenyra and Otto would butt heads over the proper qualities of a Kingsguard but you could have had a whole episode dedicated to her selection, going through characters who could be selected from highborn families and perhaps Criston saves her in some capacity or impresses her somehow and the end of the episode is his lavish, impressive investiture into the white cloaks… but instead, he’s there and suddenly without so much as a ceremony, he’s right there as if nothing happened. And with the episode three teaser showing Alicent will already have a son, there is just so much time being skipped over needlessly that could have given us many great and interesting scenes in this time period that they’re omitting for reasons I really don’t understand. I don’t think it was bad by any means, but it does feel that they are desperate to condense as many events as possible without giving them the time to explore or explain what these characters are feeling as well as they might have done if they’d given them a couple episodes of breathing room.
You want more development, which would be nice, but they have a budget and set number of episodes. We have to get to the civil war and smaller wars/battles. Time and money!

I completely understand you feeling uncomfortable with the King potentially marrying a 12 year old; even marrying Alicent is uncomfortable for me. If he had chosen the 12 year old, I would've stopped watching the show. That's a line I'm glad they didn't cross & I would not be able to bring myself to watch if they had crossed it. It's still hard watching with him marrying a 15 year old. I get it, it's fictional but still. And it is all about politics that's for sure. I feel sorry for the women, all they are, are political pawns. It's sad really.
The politics and the back and forth is one of the best parts of Game of Thrones.

Wrong. The show clearly wants us to be uncomfortable. They did everything they could to emphasize how young Laena was, including having her walk right next to the king so the camera can show the massive height difference. Normal people will continue being repulsed by pedophilia, if you aren't then that's your defectiveness. Might want to ask yourself why you felt it necessary to defend pedophilia instead of letting people be rightfully repulsed. Seems like you felt personally attacked. Creepy.

Women bare children….. it’s incredibly valuable. There is nothing wrong with a kingdom recognizing this and benefitting to promote political stability. In the fiction doing this is simple and smart.

He's a thoroughly decent chap, but he's an awful King. Maybe the whole reason they accept a Queen is because he's such a useless King?
I think the pacing of this episode was way, WAY too fast, and so much is just being breezed through that they could really have gone into depth on.
Take Daemon for instance. They could have shown him skulking and angry at Runestone, established why he hates his wife so much and how desperate he is for Viserys’ approval before plotting to seize Dragonstone as a way to get his attention. Then in the second episode, he links up with his friends in the Gold Cloaks, steals the egg and takes the castle from his brother’s garrison while also giving more depth to the captains of the watch and why they’re so loyal to him. Then in the third episode, there’s a real focus on how to deal with him and what the Crown’s response should be whereas instead they just shot right through all of this and it was essentially over before it began.
Likewise, Viserys’ announcement of marriage to Alicent was also too early in the series. We’ve now missed out on the possibility of more scenes where they’re best friends with each other with no problems, now the drama over the marriage will break their friendship apart as well as giving more development to Alicent and exploring how she feels about all of this. I would have pushed the proposal back to episode four or five at least, there was so much they could have done with this stage of their friendship that now feels like we’re never going to see again.
The same applies to Criston Cole who gets fast tracked into the Kingsguard with lightning speed. Now, it makes sense that Rhaenyra and Otto would butt heads over the proper qualities of a Kingsguard but you could have had a whole episode dedicated to her selection, going through characters who could be selected from highborn families and perhaps Criston saves her in some capacity or impresses her somehow and the end of the episode is his lavish, impressive investiture into the white cloaks… but instead, he’s there and suddenly without so much as a ceremony, he’s right there as if nothing happened.
And with the episode three teaser showing Alicent will already have a son, there is just so much time being skipped over needlessly that could have given us many great and interesting scenes in this time period that they’re omitting for reasons I really don’t understand.
I don’t think it was bad by any means, but it does feel that they are desperate to condense as many events as possible without giving them the time to explore or explain what these characters are feeling as well as they might have done if they’d given them a couple episodes of breathing room.
It's like this in the book, and I didn't have problems with the pace at all, i actually thought it was a good build up for the plot and characters

You want more development, which would be nice, but they have a budget and set number of episodes. We have to get to the civil war and smaller wars/battles. Time and money!
