- On October 2nd, 2014, the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched to make India open defecation free in five years.
The target to achieve universal sanitation coverage was set for 2019 - the year that marks the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who wanted to make sanitation a priority for India more than a century ago.
Between 2000 to 2017, the South Asian region, including India, accounted for almost three-fourths of the population who stopped defecating in the open.
Today in IN DEPTH, we talk about the findings of the UNICEF on India's sanitation drive and its environmental impact on Water, Soil, and Food. We also discuss the progress made by India in achieving 100% ODF status and the challenges that stand in the way of sustaining it.

ODF staus wont help India untill we improve our sewage management.
Thanks for your Great Job
What about the ground report?? It is just on paper not in ground. We should go to a ODF village and check reality...
it is on the ground level, there is a significant improvement but without the help of people such initiatives cannot be possible, our country is the first country where head of the country has to urge people about the basic sanitation, its a shame.
Thank u madam

Real work of government u can see on d surface
It's totally wrong report. If we talk about percentage then it's beyond 60-70℅.If you glance at Bihar, UP, odisa MP... You will find still open defecation there..
