I just had same thing, they told me I had " heart burn" too, even though I have been on the same meds they prescribed for years now. Had covid and ever since my voice has been screwed. But my singing voice actually got better, it couldnt have gotten worse, lol.. I am on a nasal spray now which has given me my normal crappy voice back. At least it took the inflammation I had from my allergies away. When I cough its actually productive now. No idea if it was from the 11 days of crappy dry coughing constantly or not, just that's when it started. This nasal spray is strong nasty stuff, but at least it has cleared me out. Good luck

I’m a singer and I had reflux long ago. It totally messes with the voice. I felt like I had a bone stuck in my throat and couldn’t phonate. My voice sounded like a train whistle sometimes plus it felt thick and hard to sing. Clearing up the reflux, especially paying attention to my diet made all of the difference and my voice returned to normal. Maybe this info will help. Good luck with this. You have a golden voice and I always thought you sounded like your technique is healthy.💜🌟

I hope you have healed completely, but if not, please look up low stomach acid. There is a home test that you can do easily. Thyroid may need checked too. Tonsil stones caused by allergies may cause inflammation and irritation as well. God bless! I just found you through a FB ad of all things. I thought I commented on this but I don’t see it-please look into laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), something I struggled with for months but a very manageable condition and one that doctors often miss. Your symptoms sound like what I was experiencing. I keep mine under control by not eating or drinking for a few hours before bed and sleeping on a bed with risers on the head side.

Have you heard of muscle tension dysphonia? I had it from anxiety and singing and it’s where the muscles around the vocal box constrict so much that 1) it may be painful .. mine was 2) it can obstruct chords ability to vibrate and produce sound. I had to go to a therapy clinic at Vancouver hospital for a week to do physical therapy and i suffered for about a year. I have never had it again since that incident. Mine was connected to nerves and anxiety as well. Goooood luck on this frustrating journey!! Wishing you the best!

As an aside, an X-ray isn’t going to show much sweetie, if you really feel that you have some kind of compression ask for an MRI. I will say I have seen lots of patients with throat inflammation and once gastric reflux is treated then the inflammation settles right down. Still no sympathy though, not that you’d expect any from a retired nurse, we aren’t good with sympathy, nope. I’m looking forward to the time you can sing Hallelujah for me again.
