    I have been making carrot dogs for 60 years since i was 12, That was the year I gave up meat, and Dairy, That was also the year I heard the actor Bob Cummings talk about supplements, and I went whole hog there. my dad used to take me to the country club and proudly he would order me a large salad, with lemon on the side, and a plate of veggies with no oil or salt. and I always had a marvelous time with my parents there. My sister died at 61, my dad at 59, and my mom a very healthy eater at 85, everyone asks me why don't you have white or gray hair, and I tell them my diet, and supplementation provide what I need. I beat asthma, I take no medicine, this is the essence of great health.

    • @djaldd420
      @djaldd420 5 років тому +1

      You should! We first found it and used it to make vegan hamburger helper (amazing) and now we always have a big glassware container of it and stopped buying vegan cheeses. So far we've used it for nachos, macaroni, quesadillas (really awesome for this), cheese fries, cheesey broccoli, even grilled cheese sandwiches and veggie sausage and cheese biscuits.
      We'll make half of the batch spicy and leave the other half plain, for obvious reasons.
      Super cheap, filling, and nutritious! Makes a ton. It's literally just potatoes, carrots, nooch, water, oil, lemon juice, and some spices.

    Skinnier carrots taste less like carrots once prepared. Also the white carrots are more mild. I put mine in a pan on the stove with the marinade, and then let them simmer so the marinade becomes thicker and sticks to the carrots... smaller carrots in diameter definitely helps.

    I also add smoked paprika and cumin powder. After boiling I like to let them sit in the fridge for a couple days and the flavor really intensifies. The leftover juice makes great mashed potatoes and if you marinade the little carrot parts you can make beans and carrot weenies!

    Your carrots to big. Do smaller regular sizes. You can poke tiny holes to help infuse them. You don't need tge syrup and garlic powder wworks just fine also. Add paprika, papper, nutmeg. Instead of veg broth or your cubes( way to much sodium) can take a package of low sodium beef/brown, chicken or even Turkey GRAVY package and mix just 1/4 the package with a little water. After instant pot. Put in fry pan and put carrots and add the leftover juice marinade and let it simmer and stick to it. You can chop onions etc, toss in while pan fry to let the leftovers infuse & stick to them .( only until leftovers brine all brown on the carrots. Leave skin on carrots for that regular hot dog skin it mocks. You can use shaved chopped carrots as a healthy substitute for bread coating for chicken nuggets also. Will need to air fry. No oil needed.

    I like veggie burgers ( I hope that's not a no no with y'all ) and I cannot wait to try the BK one. I am lucky I got a natural aversion to meat. I started vegg'n more and feel better and am a bit smaller too I think. I like boca burgers better than Morningstar farms ( hope dat's ok too? I've not seen enuff of ur vids to know if you're aggin em ) LOL and the real secret to the boca burgers is to Burn em! I pan fry and they are charred beyond recog. I have even fed them to kids and they didn't know. I don't like the Morningstar farms corn dogs the "meat" in them has no snap. You gotta have a snap for it to be a hawt dog. I know everything I mentioned prolly has too much sodium. YOU GUYS ROCK BUTT!!

    I’ve only been watching your videos for a couple of months, so this may be “old hat” to you, but since I haven’t seen you do it I thought I would mention it. Baba ghanouj. I know you like hummus, but baba ghanouj is a whole ‘nother thing. I found that by playing with the ingredients I can make a really nice substitute for mayonnaise/sandwich spread. This is wonderful because I love chickpea salad. If you’ve never tried chickpea salad, just take a can of chickpeas, squash them up but leave them chunky, add minced celery and onion, your “mayonnaise,” a little lemon juice or cider vinegar, a pinch of sugar or other sweetener to balance out the acidity, and salt and pepper to taste if desired. It is a marvelous substitute for chicken salad. You can put it on bread and make a sandwich, make a wrap, just serve it on the lettuce, or stuff other vegetables with it, like mushrooms. You can dress up this chickpea salad and even make it quite elegant with the addition of fresh herbs, diced apple or grapes. I like what you’re doing. Keep up the good work!

    I use a very similar recipe but instead of cooking the hotdogs in the marinade the recipe a use calls for boiling the carrots in water and then marinating them for several hours. I usually marinate overnight. Then you can cook them in a skillet, oven or on a grill and just keep basting them as you did. I think it gives a little more flavor.

    Hi Brian hi Jessica I know this is probably an old video but I made these hot dogs oh my goodness I am shocked how I turned a carrot into the most delicious dog ever. They even taste better than the hot dogs themselves . These carrot dogs are unbelievable delicious just unbelievable 😋 yum yum

    I made this recipe of Chuck's just last week and I was very pleasantly surprised as well. I didn't peel my carrots and I didn't have liquid smoke so I used smoked paprika and they still came out hot doggie smelling! We dont have a grill but yours cooked on the grill look even better. I am really enjoying watching your videos. And I just LOVE Peef❤

    • @MartintheGreatPotatoMage

      This is exactly what I did; I haven't the first clue as to what 'Liquid Smoke' would even be in German, nevermind where to find it in Berlin! Smoked Paprika worked out great, and if you leave them in the oven at about 200°C/390°F until they *look* done, maybe a little blackening on the high points, they're soft and perfect...
      Experiments with Parsnips have yielded less successful results, but I'm determined to get that figured out :P

    There's a recipe out there which is similar but also adds mace and coriander but no liquid smoke. You are cook carrots and then marinate for 12 hours, then simmer carrots and marinade until all marinade evaporates. It's awesome! My carrot hating husband loves them!

      Last year on the 4th of July, it was during our two weeks of potatoes, so we ate plain potatoes on the rooftop of our building and watched the air show (while everyone else grilled LOL). So it will be nice to have something to make this year :) We'll probably add some veggie kabobs too!

    Is vital wheat gluten flour used in your diet? I have made hotdogs and sandwich slices with that and herbs. Is that considered ok....or not?
