Colony Square Mall - Zanesville Ohio | ERA_Productions

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Colony Square Mall in Zanesville Ohio! Opening it's doors in 1981, Colony Square Mall was the premiere shopping destination for Zanesville. Original anchors would consist of JCPenney, Sears, Lazarus, and Elder Beerman. Colony Square, Mall would do fantastic throughout the 80s and 90s, and would even expand a major retail corridor in Zanesville. However, the 2000s would start signaling trouble, as Lazarus would close in 2002. But the space would not be vacant for long, as it would be demolished for a Cinemark movie theater in 2006. However, as more tenants started Leaving Colony Square Mall for new locations elsewhere, a major vacancy rot would start to appear throughout the interior of the mall. Things would only get worse when in 2013, Sears would close. However, the space would be converted into a Dunham's sports. In 2018, Elder Beerman would file for bankruptcy, and would close all locations, including the colony Square mall store. And as of the early 2024, the mall sits at around 55% occupancy. Let’s take a walk through the struggling Colony Square Mall, and see how it’s holding up as of 2024!

Yes I agree with you the Mall is struggling but it had a different vibe to it compared to the Indian Mound Mall along with it not being carpeted like an Airport Terminal. Management needs to push for a mix use and community type goal if it is going to survive.

I’m hopeful for this mall, it’s a nice mall. When I visited the mall it was a week or two before Christmas and the JoAnn was still in liquidation I was lucky to capture it. Great video👍🏻

Zanesville! Thanks for posting this one! I should have visited this mall when I would drive past going to Columbus. But I was always like… Columbus is just an hour away. 😂

I grew up going to this mall! I’ve seen stores come and go and sometimes I still catch myself thinking some of them are still there. RadioShack, Gadzooks, FYE, etc were regular stops for me! I miss those days!

Not really yet, I’m still on my break, and still will be. I just had this video on the back burner for a couple weeks, and today is the 5 year anniversary of the channel. Just wanted to get something out to celebrate. Now that this is out, I’m gonna be taking a couple months off. I won’t be gone forever, I’m just gonna take the summer off to focus on my personal life.

The time I went to this mall the incandescent lights in the skylights were all turned on. I’ve noticed it seems like they rarely ever have them turned on
