NOTE: This full-length video includes the entirety of Interstate 86 in PA and NY as it currently stands in 2024, plus the segments of the highway in New York east of Elmira that are currently signed as NY Route 17 and are planned to become part of the interstate in the future.
Interstate 86 is the major east-west corridor along New York's Southern Tier. The highway has been upgraded to interstate standards from the former NY 17 designation.
NY Route 17 is the major highway that connects the NYC Metro area with Binghamton and the Southern Tier Region of New York State. The route is currently being upgraded to interstate standards as the new Interstate 86.

Why haven't they placed the I-86 shield from the eastern end (Thruway) going westward? It's a highway already.
