Dear teacher I I have taken M.A from distinct education I did' nt have anything from English phonetics but now Iam confident the part of phonetics Thank you for u fantastic class
Plosives are sounds uttered with complete closure and sudden release of articulators involved in it's production. Air escapes with these sounds suddenly thereby making a small explosive sound. In English /p,b,t,d,k,g/ are plosives.
Africates are uttered with a complete closure and slow release of the active articulator. Here the oral closure is removed slowly and a friction will be heard with the sound. In English /tʃ, dʒ/ ( ച്, ജ്) are africates.
Sounds that are articulated with close approximation are called fricatives. It means there is a very narrow gap between the articulators involved and air escapes through it with audible friction. In English / f,v, θ,ð,s,z, ʃ, ʒ, h/ are fricatives.
Speech organs and articulation is a separate session. I didn't mention it in this video not to complicate things 😊. Pls note most of the languages including English use pulmonic eggressive air stream mechanism.
