Firmware bug? Balluff IO-Link Master not communicating with IO-Link devices on powerup (work-around)

- Balluff IO-Link masters produced after the chip shortage (2020) have different hardware than those prior. The new chips behave differently than the old ones. The firmware is likely to blame for the issue presented in the video, hopefully this can get worked out soon.
Firmware shown: 4.9.0 (previous firmware tested had the same issue)
Hardware shown: 9.1.1
Models affected by my testing (so far):
-BNI006A
-BNI00HM
IO-Link devices connected to this master:
-Balluff BNI00CN
-Piab piCOMPACT23
-Keyence LRZ-490CB - Наука та технологія
how can I update fimrware?
To update the firmware, you have to contact Balluff support. They will send you the firmware update files for the hardware version you have. They are very easy to work with.
@@christianmayne3588 Ok thanks! because I have a similar problem with a new BNI00HM. But I don't know why this module has firmware version 1.1, because of that I can't even access the web server.
Thank you and very useful video!!! I'm pretty sure that this video can save a lot of lives.
@@user-vq5tb9jn7n Some of the early hardware 9 modules shipped without the full firmware. I had a similar issue with an order of 4 of the BNI00HMs.
The hardware 9 firmware is updated with a .exe program that Balluff sends to you, not via the web interface.
@@christianmayne3588 okey, thanks
One question, do you know if have to do something else with the module? Because this BNI00HM is a replace for a damaged BNI006A.
@@user-vq5tb9jn7n Nope, they are designed to be drop in replacement. The only difference is that you have to set the IP address through the web interface instead of the small screen. I’d also label the HM with the IP address so that you can work on it if needed in the future.
