Leading baritone Gerald Finley discusses Wagner's Parsifal and performing the role of Amfortas: www.roh.org.uk/... Music courtesy of EMI www.amazon.co.u...
What he speaks of was exactly my experience on seeing/hearing Parsifal. Secondarily, a personal reflection and redemption. But primarily, as he says, "astonishment" at the wonderful qualities of the music, and a joining in with, and appreciation for, the "journey" of the characters and their story. Thank you, Gerald, for encapsulating that for me.
"Maybe that's a bit naive..." No, not at all! As a member of the audience who was there last night for the opening night of the Royal Opera's production, I can assure Gerald that I experienced precisely what he was hoping for and felt deeply moved and uplifted, thanks in no small part to his magnificent performance. I also completely agree with the other commenters about Gerald's insights into this wonderful piece, the incredible beauty of the music and the journey we go through with the characters while experiencing Parsifal.

Great insights from Gerald Finley - there is no wonder why his performances are always of such a high quality and standard.

I love Parsifal and Gerald Finley.
Congrats, Gerald! Toi toi toi!
People striving ... but for/towards what?
It's a god-awful production but the music and singing are divine.
