as far as the second scenario, living an honest humble life is NOT being less of a man. lots of people make money selling drugs and doing other dangerous things. having a lot of money does not make you a man. all of you are lucky someone didn't pull up on y'all at some point while that guy was around (him being cool with you or not).
It actually takes strength to be vulnerable and you’ve shown a lot of that.
