    I just stumbled upon your channel and couldn’t pass up watching a French cleat tool wall video. I did the same thing on my channel. I noticed you filled up that wall pretty fast. Mines probably less than half full but I’m doing videos on most tool holders moving forward. Great content!!👍👍👍

      Thanks Dude Sawdust. Love your channel name. I am pretty new to the content creator side of things here on UA-cam (~3 months or so), but I am having a really good time.

      Ben, it's been the best thing for my shop. Because every tool has its own place it forces you to keep things organized. It has been such a game changer for me in terms of shop cleanliness and tool organization.

    Hello. Wall looks great. What are the chances you’d make a video taking down and showing the other custom holders? Always curious how people design and put together their tool holders. Some very good looking and functioning designs but they’re only brief glimpses of them in this video. The pneumatic nailgun one looks amazing but seeing how even the simple ones like the clamp racks is interesting too. Found your InstaGram too. Maybe you’d post some awesome shots of stuff on there? Thank you :)

    Great job, i subscribed to your channel. Can I ask you the measurements of the french cleats? Length, width and height? Thanks Francesco

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  3 роки тому +6

      Hi Francesco! I made the french cleats out of 3/4" plywood so they are all 3/4" thick. The french cleats that went onto the wall were all 70" long and the high-side of each cleat was 2.5" tall. I hope this helps answer your questions.

      @@EigenDesigns can you also tell us what was the height of the spacers used?

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  3 роки тому +5

      @@kashyappalicha797 The spacers were 2.75" tall which makes the gap between the cleats 1/4" larger than the mating cleats that are used on my tool holders. You can certainly make the spacers larger, but I wanted to make the cleat rails as tight as possible.

    What happens when you upgrade tools with different designs and the wall mount doesn't fit the new tool?

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      That's a good question. I have come across this already and have handled it two different ways. If the new tool has a similar design to the old one, you can modify your existing holder to make it fit. Alternatively, I have just built entirely new containers. The plywood I use I mostly from scrap pieces left over from old projects so there is minimal cost and it generally takes around 10-15 minutes per holder.

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Robert L. I made a few more containers for my French cleat wall to better organize my clamps and thought you might get some value from watching it. I know you were curious how to handle new tools being added to the collection.

    Really awesome job! I did a lot of research before building my cleat wall and still wish I would have done a few things differently.... They are such a joy to make..... A great way of training you're craft and testing you're mind on top of being a very cost effective storage option

    why you need to put plywood on the wall? Seems like waste of $$ and wood.

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  2 роки тому

      It was an attempt to save the drywall in the garage. I was concerned that tightening down the cleats directly onto the drywall would cause them to "sink in" to the drywall and leave an imprint if I ever wanted to remove them. At the time, a sheet of plywood was ~$40 so I elected to spend that money to protect the drywall in the garage.
      Hope that helps. Have a good one Swapnil :)

      @@EigenDesigns I am thinking about that problem right now.. I have to make a decision, do you recommend it? Here it costs nearly 80 usd..

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  2 роки тому +1

      @@mvwo I would still even do it for $80 USD. If you ever end up taking the french cleat wall down you can always re-purpose the plywood for another project.
      BTW, my french cleat wall might be my favorite shop project I have done thus far. It has helped me stay organized in the shop and not clutter my shop with excess tools. Good luck building!

    Did you think about putting the cleats on the plywood before installing the plywood on the wall? I am thinking about mine atm so trying to think it through any pros cons.

    • @EigenDesigns
      @EigenDesigns  2 роки тому

      That’s a great question. You could certainly do that. Two things to consider: pre-installing the cleats will make it heavier, so if you’re working alone that could make things more challenging. Secondly, you won’t be able to use the cleats to hide the screws that hold the plywood to the wall. But if those two things are not an issue and you could certainly pre install the cleats. I hope this helps :-)
