He has a second attempt and again, knocks it down with his arms. He's well clear of it but knocks it down anyway. He's not ready to make it yet, he wants a hero's moment. He jumps a third time, almost hits the bar with his hands again -- and then lifts them out of the way at the last moment as he could have done for either of the first two attempts, breaking the record, getting paid and making headlines with the most dramatic version of the jump.
