I am 75, diagnosed with MDS 2 years ago, and I turned down the BMT/Bone Marrow Transplant. At my age, with diabetes, heart disease, etc., my MDS will likely turn into AML/ Acute Myeloid Leukemia which has a 30% kill rate with those of us who already had cancer [non-Hodgkins lymphoma, from Agent Orange exposure in 1968]. The V.A. has been taking care of me, at this point via transfusions to stimulate RBC/ Red Blood Cell growth. I am in good hands and it sounds like Robin is, too. I wish her Good Luck. I do not watch television, so I don't know how things turned out for her, but as her mother said: "Everybody's got something."

It seems so tough when storms get thrown at us one after the other, but I know you are going to be strong. In your weakest times is when you have to reach out to try to be your strongest. MDS CAN be treatment related, but it can also be unrelated to treatment. As some physicians have said, it is difficult to diagnose and manage. Hope she has a full recovery.
