This is the updated Mercedes-AMG E63 S, and Mat’s here to find out if the range-topping E-Class has what it takes to compete with the BMW M5 Competition & Audi RS6!
As you’d expect from this ultra-sporty saloon, there are a number of exterior design features to be found, from a boot lid spoiler and quad-exhaust tips through to a redesigned front bumper which houses a whole host of vents!
All of the upgrades aren’t visible in plain sight, however! There are a number of chassis upgrades over the standard E-Class, from sporty air suspension & adaptive dampers through to dynamic engine mounts and upgraded brakes.
And of course, hiding under the bonnet is the thing that makes the AMG E63 so special - the engine! It’s a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, which in the standard E63 can put down 571hp and 750Nm of torque. However, if you choose the range-topping S edition, it’ll deliver a glorious 612hp and 850Nm!

Get a pre face-lift model, a 2018 model is what I want, plus they lose like 35% of the new value as soon as they leave the showroom so everyone just finances a pre owned one to protect from loss.

Around 13:20 there is a scene where Matt puts the car setting on S+ and steps on the gas pedal… you can visibly notice the gas level lowering around those seconds

Their main argument is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions but the numbers tell, that most people already drive quite slow due to the high fuel prices and so no one pursues this any further.

The uneven gloss surface of the carbon trim and the break squeak seem like minor nitpicks on the surface but these are absolutely crucial to point out in car reviews. Little details like this and cabin rattles can drive you nuts while driving and ruin the whole car. Thanks for mentioning it!

I’m so glad that they haven’t fitted the 2021 S-Class interior to the E. This looks much much better without that massive iPad in the middle. Keep it classy, Mercedes!
Well, technically this hasn't happened yet, because the E class got facelift, not a complete redesign.
Integrated displays look much much better than those giant iPads glued to the dashes. I prefer the current c class and e class interior over the new s class’

I thought I am the only one who hates those two massive blocky square tablets thrown in the cockpit with no concern for the cockpits aesthetics. That's the only reason I hate the S class interior. If they could've just integrated them in the dashboard a little bit better it would've been completely different

I had a 2020 E63 built to spec a year ago. I love it. It's the perfect combination of total luxury, high tech gadgets and horsepower. Just wish it had the touchscreen like the 2021 model. Bit frustrating, ordering a car and finding out the one incoming is an upgrade. Can't beat the quality, comfort, and service though. I get treated like royalty when I communicate with the Mercedes dealership. It's awesome. Wasn't cheap, though, obviously. Mine built to spec came to $170 grand cash. I'm not saying this to show off. I'm saying it because I'm a little disappointed the car wasn't solid gold for that price. LOL.

Why would you take something that looks this beautiful and aggressive only to bring us something that looks like a Hyundai. Yes all the interior shit looks good but exterior is just really disappointing.
Also look at the new 2021 BMW M5 CS absolute beauty. If I had any weight within the Mercedes brand, that new design would’ve never seen day light.

The exhaust surrounds are not just decorative, they act as resonators to enhance sound. You should try removing them and hear the difference.

Please do a repeat of the E63s vs M5 vs RS6 in a dry track this time around. The results weren’t clear and satisfying the last time, I feel like the E63 can do better.

I would like Mercs new cars to go retro in design but the way the Toyota Century 2020 did it. Sleek and quiet with attention to detail. I can't wait for an e-class with dual headlamps again

Sort of, but I think us petrolheads are partly responsible for these soft-limiters. We rev our cars anti-socially in the city and especially in London, Sam from Seen Through Glass has shared before, there so many videos of people in the summer, crowing around supercars, begging the drivers to rev them, which drew loads of complaints. I reckon that has got something to do with this new legislation to make cars quieter.

@Jay&Tay The sound is still there with turbos added, It’s just different. Case in point, this E63 still sounds good, with turbos, AND a particulate filter.
We will miss them for sure, but be prepared for a different kind of sound. Have you seen that clip BMW posted a few weeks back of what the first electric M model (which I assume is the i4 M50) will sound like? That sounded very cool! But I think it’s more than just sound a combustion engine delivers right? It’s the vibration and the note changing with the revs.
It is sadly inevitable. But anyways let's wait for a nerd to show up and blabber about tesla's claimed 0-60 time.

The seats are an option in other places, so you still specify the traditional ‘amg performance seats’’. Frankly, speaking from experience, I wish my car had the ones in this car, because they are far more comfortable on long journeys.

Well the only thing that made it easier to see the differences are just the headlights. If you remove the headlights on the prev gen cars, it’ll look the same too
