You mentioned how experts know their art so well that when they teach someone else it, they often miss things because they assume steps in a process are common sense...this is why I have a job! I did my graduate work on this whole concept. Now I work with subject matter experts to break down what they do into teachable instruction. It's so fascinating. I have learned how to fix an airplane, extract a tooth, do electrical work, etc., but nothing makeup-related. Maybe it can be my next project :)
That’s amazing!! You can probably explain what I mean in a more understandable way! I’ve had people teach me (non makeup related) things before and I always stop them like “wait what did you just do with your hand” 😂 looking for all the small details! 🖤🖤
I grew up doing film and theatre, and I think what people forget about using stage makeup techniques is that it is supposed to be budge proof, but not worn for a long time. One theatre production I was in I had to literally layer different character makeup over and over again because my changes didn’t allow enough time to wash off and re-apply, so my previous makeup also had to be the base for the next layer. Seriously aggressive, but it was only on for 4 hours…5 at most. I had to be able to dance in it, stand under hot stage lights, go through costume changes, wear heavy costumes. That makeup had to stand up to waaaay more than daily wear. For film, my makeup was extremely minimal. Just enough to even out my skin tone, and it’s much more similar to what I wear day to day.
something that my therapist told me a while ago that i still think about every day is "your common sense is not everybody else's common sense." it really applies to so many things and what you said about makeup and common sense really just reminded me of that.
So you’re saying I should be kinder/more understanding with my husband when he doesn’t do everything the right - I mean my way 😅. excellent advice for sure!!

One of the best “basics” I ever learned from Robert is that your skin prep before makeup is not the same as your usual skin care. I spent years thinking my skin just couldn’t work with makeup because the routine that kept it happy did not mesh with makeup application. I kept trying to do exclusively one routine or the other and it was always a disaster. It was definitely a forehead slap moment when he explained it. Robert I am SO glad you touched on this concealer issue. For years and until recently I’d been using a yellow undertone concealer (for reference I’m about your skin tone) and just ugh! 3:13 I've been doing this technique since forever whenever I wanted my makeup to last over 12 hours. I call it super setting and I don't use it very often. It worked with most foundations. I use way less powder (Maybelline fit me) than she does, and press it into my skin with a very dense brush, so it leaves a very clear layer of powder that is different from lightly dusting it over my face, but not a whole thick layer like she has. Then take my setting spray (always Mario Badescu, either of the 3 sprays) and DOUSE my face in it. Not that it was dripping off of my face, but just enough that you could visibly see a layer on liquid on it. Then take a beauty blender, preferably one that was the fuzzy kind, kind of microfibre-ish, and press the liquid into my skin until it was gone and the sponge had soaked up the excess, while leaving the rest of my face with a very natural finish. Not only did it take away the powder/matte look, it also made my face last upwards of 12+ hours (I was sometimes pulling 15/16 hour days with the same makeup and minor blotting).
During hot and humid weather, when I am sweating excessively...this is the only technique that will last my makeup for more than 2 hours and upto 8 hours. 😊

Ugh, I can't go anywhere without seeing people talking about that primer lol. I refuse to spend that much on a primer when the elf ones work so well for me tbh
Who is that woman? The one that was so impressed by the primer? She's constantly in my recommended even tho I don't watch that much makeup content, and she has always "just discovered" or her friend "just told her about this amazing product", and then she proceeds to try the product like "omg I hope this really is as good as people claim it is!". Then proceeds to squeal and hype the product for doing whatever that product is supposed to do. If it's a blush and she applies it and it looks like a normal blush, she goes "omg look at that I can't believe it!!!". Same with any powder that mattifies, any concealer that conceals... any product that does what that product is supposed to do. Either she's the most easily impressed woman on the planet, or her reviews aren't very trustworthy... she has hundreds of thousands likes in all of her videos.
Her using that Ben Nye reminds me how many prestige makeup brands started ripping off their products when setting and contour became popular and that 'nano blur' I think people just don't realize it's essentially microspheres of silica. She didn't get blurred as much as she did knock back shine. It's almost exactly true porefessional and all the others.
Thank you for the video. I was in a horrible mood before this, and it just perked me right up. And I agree, color theory is very nuanced, so yellow concealer just won't work for everyone. I have tried yellow concealer before, and it just looked garish on me.

I have oily skin and live in a quite humid place, I use matte foundation and they work pretty well with just a tiny bit of powder! If I need that extra grip I use a primer, as Robert mentioned a few times in his videos, keeping the oil from coming through works so much better for me than fixing it afterwards! Not to mention how much my eyes are bothered by excess powder
There are more than three undertones, olive is a combination of yellow and blue undertones and can be either warm, cool or neutral and any depth including deep or very pale.
I love your videos so much. You’re so respectful to everyone while explaining the reasoning behind it. The amount of videos from you this week plus the twin channel, I love ❤️

The nanoblur thingy...I've never tried it, but the finish of the Maybelline Perfector foundation looks similar. It's sheer, but you skin looks perfect and blurred afterwards.
@@RobertWelsh Thank YOU Robert!! 😊 btw, I have a question. I completely agree with you about eye primer but I was dumb and bought the wrong one and already opened it. The primer I got doesn't have any coverage to it so I can't hide the veins or little bit of darkness on my lids. Would you use concealer over the primer or just some powder? What do you recommend until I get the right one lol
I have hella oily skin and I use the stage makeup powder set for my everyday makeup and it works perfectly, by the end of the day it doesn’t get crusty or rub off so definitely worth a shot
My niece does theater and that first one works great for the stage but you only usually keep that makeup on short term it may get a little heavy if you go all day, but for an event it would probably be great.
I love those old Ern Westmore videos. I'm an old movie fanatic, preferably movies from the thirties. Their makeup was so pertty back then. Constance Bennett and her sister Joan, Carol Lombard and Ann Sheridan were so beautiful. Marlena Dietrich too. Ann Sheridan's eyes were gorgeous, her eyelashes were always perfect. They were great actresses.

OMG ... yes Robert!!!! Everyone thinks they are yellow/warm undertone and they aren't. I get so tired of seeing it on TikTok by BG who don't even shade match correctly to their own skin and I'm supposed to believe them? I'm going to tag you on a few things that I like
I kind of have an issue with the "3 undertones" of foundation. Depending on the depth of colour, there can be up to 5 undertones, and not just the going from peach to orange/pink to red changes. I have an olive undertone, and depending on the time of year I need either a grey or green undertone to my foundation and it is so damn hard to find that in a foundation/concealer/powder. I have to colour correct everything, I mixed a green colour corrector into my foundation and concealer, then use a green powder to correct the colour of my powder. You know those beige-green colour correctors? I can almost use those as foundation.
As someone with an olive undertone and tan skin, I know that struggle! I can never find my shade. The closest I got was Rare Beauty, but it's still too yellow for me. I would love to see Robert make a video or recommendations for us olive undertone peeps :'D
@@thatchixsister The closest I've come are the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea and the Cover FX foundation drops - but the Cover FX only comes in the half size not full size. The only problem there is, I'm a medium skin tone, and they're slightly to dark in winter, but in summer they're way too light for me. And the next step up with an olive undertone would match my mother, and she's black, so that's a no. (I'm mixed and my father is so white he's practically translucent, so I'm very pale compared to my mother's side of the family.)
Thank you for these little reaction videos. Been having a rough day, and this was a lovely moment away from it. Those super mattifying primers are so weird. My makeup never stays on whenever I use one. The only one that works decently is the ELF Putty primer(original one), but even then, I tend to use it when I'm not wearing liquid foundation. I wish I knew why primer and liquid foundation hates me, but primer and a light dusting of powder foundation works well.
@Robert Welsh So far, so good. The hardest part for me, I think, is to keep positive when it's all gone wrong, so many thanks for the well-wishes, I greatly appreciate them. I agree about the primer, double so when it doesn't say it's mattifying or pore-filling, so I have a bin full of primers that I can only use if I'm not going to wear foundation, which I supoose is fine if I'm only wearing sunscreen.😹
@Tazzie1312 That's what I thought, so I decided to swap out the serum foundation I'm testing for a different one. They should have worked with my NARS Radiant foundation which has silicones in it, but it kinda slid right off. I end up using that foundation without primer at all, though it sits weird near my eyes and forehead, which frustrates me to no end, because it's otherwise a beautiful foundation, and the concealer is so lovely, and the powder foundation is a nice pairing to lightly set it, and do touch ups.
I don't do makeup nor did anyone did any on meh. Yeah...we exist but I love watching Robert doing makeup looks. And I love the tips he shares. Ufffff love uuuuuuu🥰🤲

@@RobertWelsh yup. I have to take everything down my neck. It drives me so crazy when I buy a neutral foundation, and it's SO YELLOW on me, and I just look sick🤣🤣
Tip that works for me and my olive skin: color corrector! LA Girl has a decently strong green color corrector that's liquid, I use a little bit in my liquid foundation and it turns into the right color! I do mean a LITTLE bit though. And I mix it all before I put it on my face.
@@mortuuscerebri950 I use the blue one for my light neutral / cool olive skin. It takes out the warm and the yellow of the foundation. And yes a little goes a very long way
I’ve found the round end of a beauty blender is the best way to apply all cream and liquid face products. Even if I apply foundation with a brush , I bounce it in with a blender. The skin looks flawless.
I teach beginners how to ballroom dance, and it was so difficult at first to teach something that I can do without thinking much. It even comes up now when I teach a routine for a performance that I learned years ago, since my body knows it and my brain isn't involved anymore. If I think about it I can't even remember it! It opened my eyes a lot and made me really take care to pay attention to how I learned things, not just the end result.
I realized this is 8 months old but I want to reply 😅 Teaching is hard!! Specially when it is something you've done for YEARS by yourself or just not showing others the steps and tips. It was SO HARD I kept stuttering over my words and trying to figure out exactly how to talk to this group of people who have no idea about plants. That first class I messed up so much i kept using words they didn't know and phrases they didn't get. I swear I've never seen so many confused people in one room. Thankfully the place that I teach at is an underground art shop, so everyone in there was so willing to help me break it down better to show others.
I thought the first girl was so cute and I like that you explained the theory behind these methods and why they work and don’t work
Hi Robert thank you for saving me from a bad evening. I love your videos 🖤 xx
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤
I'm definitely going to try the highlighter hack
You could literally see you revving up after the first hack, like you was ready to implode your knowledge to the world 🌎 LOVE IT!
Awwwww I LOVE how you batified the Twitter logo!!!
I love watching your reactions 🤣....love your tips and tricks....you look absolutely stunning...love your shirt 👕...looks great on you 😀
Thank you so so much! 🖤🖤🖤
My allergies are kicking my bum again. Thank you for making me feel a bit better 🖤
Ugh I hate this time of year and all the allergies come in! 😭
Thank you for all the make up tips Robert! I just started using make up and your advice came in handy for a beginner like me ❤️
Thank you so much Tina! 🖤🖤🖤
Thank you for the video. I was in a horrible mood before this, and it just perked me right up. And I agree, color theory is very nuanced, so yellow concealer just won't work for everyone. I have tried yellow concealer before, and it just looked garish on me.
A lot of people seemed to be in a bad mood today! I was also! I hope your well Selene and sending my love! Thank you for being in Mondays love chat! 🖤🖤🖤
@@RobertWelsh thank you! Sending you my love as well. 🖤 I don't know what is going on with today but we do all seem to be extra cranky. I really enjoyed chatting with everyone on Monday.
I have that problem with liquid highlighter, going to try that technique!
great video as always!
I think it’s a really great idea!
There are more than three undertones, olive is a combination of yellow and blue undertones and can be either warm, cool or neutral and any depth including deep or very pale.
Exactly. Brands however, like to sell us two/three undertones if we are lucky
I love these videos, almost as much as I love you and James trashing 5 minute crafts 😂💚
Thank you! 😛🖤🖤
i love ur facial expressions and little giggling and smile 💋❤
I freaking love how excited you get to explain the techniques. Bless you ❤️❤️
13:49 this girl 😆 yellow toned concealer on my pink Celtic skin looks crazy! It’s way too peanut butter vibe on me 😆😆
I truly appreciate you teaching me that, while my creativity is unlimited, I FOR SURE desperately needed (and still need) help with the theory!! 😍🥰
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I love your videos so much. You’re so respectful to everyone while explaining the reasoning behind it. The amount of videos from you this week plus the twin channel, I love ❤️
It's amazing how I'm always learning from you. Even after 3 years you still have so much more to teach us !!
Drag queens like Trixie Mattel and others who do a lot of stage work do that powder trick, she talked about it in a lot of her videos!
It’s perfect for stage! 🖤
See Trixie’s ‘Getting ready together’ video with Jinkx Monsoon- surely the greatest amount of powder ever seen on a human face
I just got off work at my new job in a hospital. My day was great.. but it was definitely a pleasant surprise to come home and be able to decompress with my favorite MUA!! Thank you!💜🖤
I learned from you to do the primer under my eyes to help with the creasing. Been doing it for a while now and it works so much better for me!
Omg I thought the same when I saw her apply the highlighter to the palm of her hands 😱 but then she nailed it with the application
The nanoblur thingy...I've never tried it, but the finish of the Maybelline Perfector foundation looks similar. It's sheer, but you skin looks perfect and blurred afterwards.
I still think about that cheek dot contour hack everydayy
I'm not so much into make up and stuff but I just loooooooove hearing your voice 😭😭😭💖✨ it's so calming and relaxing 🤍
Thank you so so much! That is a huge compliment 🙏🏻🖤🖤🖤
Ghost stories and a reaction video in the same week....my 2 favorites from my favorite creator! I am so excited 😊 🙌💯👏🎉
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I feel like the first hack would be great for cosplay makeup. The girlies will love this
Yesss! 🖤🖤
Incredible information as always and explained in such understandable way. Thank you so much for your videos!
Thank you so so much I really appreciate it! 🖤🖤🖤
I really like these types of videos because I always learn how to apply a little bit better. Thank you Robert!
Some really good tips here. I’m definitely going to try the liquid blusher one, that looked beautiful!
Thank you Lexie! It looks great doesn’t it!
So happy to see ghost story content is back! Even happier to see this video was waiting for me when I finished the latest ghost story "episode" ❤️
Thank you! I’m so happy it’s back too! 🖤🖤🖤
I have hella oily skin and I use the stage makeup powder set for my everyday makeup and it works perfectly, by the end of the day it doesn’t get crusty or rub off so definitely worth a shot
This was so much fun thank you sir!
My face got dry only from watching that first Tiktok video 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 No, oh no, I cannot stand setting powder, even in small amounts.
😂😂😂🖤🖤🖤
My niece does theater and that first one works great for the stage but you only usually keep that makeup on short term it may get a little heavy if you go all day, but for an event it would probably be great.
Ahhh back with the best woop woop💜
🖤🖤🖤🖤
I appreciate you so much...thanks to you, I know so much more about makeup than I use to...❤️
Happy Wednesday, Robert!! While my week has been foolery and chaos, I hope you are having a phenomenal Neal week!! 💖🖤💖🖤💖🖤💖🖤
Hey Stacey!!! I hope ur ok!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Your reaction videos make my day! 😁. I've learnt so much from you, so much from even watching you react and explain the pros and cons of each hack!
Thank you so so much I appreciate it! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Ulta actually makes a specific under eye primer and it actually works very well.
Oh I might try it! Becca used to make a beautiful one too!
Always so happy to see your videos. Thank you.❤️
Great video! Also pinstripe is so flattering on you :)
Need me some robert welsh reacts during this stressful uni time😭🥰
your advice and explanation how things work always sound like youre just listening to a friend go on a rant or give you tips and tricks so you dont look like a clown out in the open 🤡🤗
so glad to have come across your channel
😂 thank you so much! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
He is so simple straightforward and to the point
OMG ... yes Robert!!!! Everyone thinks they are yellow/warm undertone and they aren't. I get so tired of seeing it on TikTok by BG who don't even shade match correctly to their own skin and I'm supposed to believe them? I'm going to tag you on a few things that I like
Great video as always. I really enjoy watching you. And you reacting to Tik Toks is informational and hilarious.
Thank you so so much! 🖤🖤🖤
I’ve been using my eye shadow primer under eye too :)
Another great video! Always happy to see your smiling face, and your stunning wit!! :)
Thank you! 🖤🖤
I love you counting how many different colours in your colour correcting palette there are. "There's loads" - counts out the imaginary rows - "loads"
Scammer reported again!
@@thatchixsister
The closest I've come are the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea and the Cover FX foundation drops - but the Cover FX only comes in the half size not full size. The only problem there is, I'm a medium skin tone, and they're slightly to dark in winter, but in summer they're way too light for me. And the next step up with an olive undertone would match my mother, and she's black, so that's a no. (I'm mixed and my father is so white he's practically translucent, so I'm very pale compared to my mother's side of the family.)
thank u for talking about this, when I heard the girl saying that I was like: biiiiiii*ch!! We need awareness on us green undertone girlies.
Thank you so much! I hope ur ok I’m sending you my love! Those mattifying primers are so horrible!
Uh, it might be that they have different bases? Like a water based foundation versus a silcone based primer I think sometimes don't play nice?
I love watching your videos and learning a lot about makeup in real life! 🤩
Thank you Sabrina! 🖤🖤🖤
I don't do makeup nor did anyone did any on meh. Yeah...we exist but I love watching Robert doing makeup looks. And I love the tips he shares. Ufffff love uuuuuuu🥰🤲
🙏🏻🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I'm so incredibly cool toned that most "brightening" concealers have too much yellow and it looks so awful
The first one reminded me of the Korean trend jamsu where few yrs ago ppl we're dipping their face into cold water after tons of powder
Yesss!!
my favorite part of roberts videos is we get the history aspect of makeup
Hi Robert! I was wondering if you could do a smol video with your prep routine before makeup ♥️ I absolutely love the way explain everything and I think my makeup it’s lacking that step, I don’t quite get how it’s supposed to be different from my normal skincare routine
Wow I'm almost done with the video and I *just* noticed that the TikToks are playing in a purple phone🤣🤣 love it
Yea! 😂🖤🖤🖤
Hi Robert. I wonder if you have ever come across Leichner make up. We all used these stage products as the norm in the 80s clubbing days. They were amazing. I having a feeling they started the body glitter trend at the time. Their products would seem old fashioned now but were fabulous. Great video as always.
Robert, you gotta try the wet n wild cloud pout lippies! They are the best especially for those who want to be bougie but don’t like the feel of lipstick! I have like 5 of them, 100% recommend!! I also love your content been watching for a year and I always trust you! Much love 💜 PS you should do a video on your mirror collection you always have the coolest mirrors!
These videos and the Full Face Of vids are my absolute faves. Day made 😍😍😍
I have olive skin....so glad I was left out of the 3 undertones....thats also what most brands do🤣
Also, I prefer pink toned Concealers for Brightening. Anything yellow on my skin looks bruised.
😂😂😂 oh yea finding a good olive undertone is almost impossible! 🖤🖤
And yes a little goes a very long way
I’m gonna use that highlighter sponge thing 💜
I’ve found the round end of a beauty blender is the best way to apply all cream and liquid face products. Even if I apply foundation with a brush , I bounce it in with a blender. The skin looks flawless.
Thank you for another fab video 💜💜💜
I teach beginners how to ballroom dance, and it was so difficult at first to teach something that I can do without thinking much. It even comes up now when I teach a routine for a performance that I learned years ago, since my body knows it and my brain isn't involved anymore. If I think about it I can't even remember it! It opened my eyes a lot and made me really take care to pay attention to how I learned things, not just the end result.
I realized this is 8 months old but I want to reply 😅
Teaching is hard!!
Specially when it is something you've done for YEARS by yourself or just not showing others the steps and tips.
I teach a " plant class" it's not like a college course, I don't have a degree or anything and the people that come don't receive anything except information
When I first started...
I'm about a year into my classes and Im gaining " students" with every class 😊
BUT MY GOD IT WAS HARD IN THE BEGINNING 😂
Literally at work watching this haha
I don't even wear any make up but I ALWAYS watch these videos, Robert is just so lovable💚
Thank you so so much that’s a huge compliment! 🖤🖤🖤
Thanks for sharing this with us ❤️
Always a pleasure! 🙏🏻🖤🖤🖤
Hi Robert! Tysm, your videos always make my day
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤
Love these! I learn so much.
🖤🖤🖤
Yessss Robert thank you for the tips as always !!! ♥
🙏🏻🖤🖤🖤
I’ve been using eyeshadow base as an undereye primer for so long ! it’s the only way my under eyes look decent. I only use this in the summer months though. In the winter I am more dry and I do this less
