I love how you say you're easily amused. Everything we do on the cajon, and percussion in general is the "small details". There is nothing more glaring than a rhythm that is just a tiny bit off. Keep to the small stuff Ross, it keeps you humble, and great at the same time. Wonderful exercise!

Ross, what Sela should I purchase? I'm looking at the Casela Pro, but noticed the Wave as well. Any tips?

I really liked this one Ross. I think many cajon people focus too much on playing everything RLRL. As you said, different ways of playing the same groove, be it RRLL, or a combination of single and double strokes, give it different feelings and sounds, and that is what it is all about.

Hi and thank you for sharing. Tutorial like this is perfect. I like seeing the notation and the physical example being played. You also explain well. It's not too much for beginners, but it's enough for those of us with some background. If you don't have them already, shorter tutorials with various grooves and rhythms, maybe a few fills would be perfect as well. Thanks again!

I think this vid is a great length. I really like these exercises too as variation in practise just builds up the skill level.

+Cajon Groove Guide cool! something else I'd love to get some exercises for is skipping beats (I always get my hands mixed up when I try this :D) and mixing between straight 16ths, triplets, duplets etc, again, so great to seamlessly switch. thanks for the guides, really appreciate them!

I have the same Sela cajon. Great bass and a nice crisp snare.

Your vids rock. I dig either length use at your discretion, 7 min is perfect.

Hello Ross! If I may, make it long when the subject requires more in depth attention and make it short when it is a simpler matter. However, keep making tutorials! And as always, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I like a mix of lengths myself.
One thing I'd be interested to know is whether you have a practice system/routine at all. Also, for comparison with my own playing, I'd be interested in the kind of BPMs you can comfortably maintain for different rudiments. I know drumming's not all about speed, but I think it's good to know from other players what's achievable and what they find difficult.
For instance, I can hold a single stroke roll comfortably at 190bpm but things like paradiddles start to get sloppy at 150bpm.

Thanks for your reply! I like that idea of leaving the cajon around the house to remind you to practice certain things.
An un-edited practice video sounds cool - you should do it! I've recently discovered the challenge of practicing to a metronome that cuts out for a bar. I've been pushing myself to practice using it with 2 bars of click, then 2 bars of silence.

Hi... your videos are killers! It's really a pleasure to follow your explanations... and I need to buy a cajon! :)
I will go for CaSela SE 002A. Is it the same as yours? One of the best sounds! Do you think?
    Thanks!

Why is it so hard to smoothly go from the triplets to the doubles. Also what's the first BPM you were using?

It was easy because english and music are both universal languages!
I don't understand everything that you said, because I'm brazilian and have not too much contact with the engligh language, but you showed the score and played... So I think I can practice! And the coolest thing is that we can practice anywhere, right?
