Fingered for relative lute tuning on guitar with the 3rd string tuned down to F sharp and optional capo on 3rd fret. My edition comes with a notation edition, French tablature, and Italian tablature edition.
There are two manuscripts for this work. I've based this edition on the manuscript from the Siena Lute Book (The Hague, Gemeentemuseum, MS 28.B.39) which is an anthology of over 150 items compiled in Siena, Italy.
The other manuscript can be found in the Bibliothéque Nationale, Paris: F-Pn Rés.429, ff. 107v-108v (Italian Tablature Copy c.1560-1565).
➔ This video was performed on a Douglass Scott classical guitar with Aquila Cristallo strings and an ErgoPlay Troster guitar support. See all my gear here: www.thisisclas...

Very nice piece, although baroque is more my thing than renaissance. Because I love ancient music, I started looking more and more in old publications with tablature for lute. It turns out that it demands quite an expertise to understand and interpret the music correctly, contrary to some that claim that it's as easy, or even easier than modern standard music notation. The quality and origin of the manuscripts vary, but mostly they raise many uncertainties. That is also often mentioned in introductory notes of transcription books. It's very time consuming and I leave it to the experts.

There are certainly easy places to start and difficult. The French tablature for 6 course Renaissance lute is can be accessible on guitar with just the detuned 3rd string. The best thing to do is to order a lute book from the Lute Society so you can start with a collection that is all the same tuning and tablature.

Have you worked on any soundtracks for Middle Ages movies?
    Beautifully played.
