This used to be played towards the end of the night back in the glory days of raves in '88-89! So too was Phil Collins 'in the air tonight'! I'm shocked to find out it was made in '82! Respect to those who remember it from the raves!
I am truly 'Amazed' . . . I'm from New York and I have NEVER been able to find anyone who loves this song as much as I do. This song 'Excites' me!! I've been blasting it on my stereo system for years! I've probably bored my neighbors hehe. This song for some strange reason didn't make it in the US but it did well elsewhere. I've been listening to this song since it first came out back in 1982. I'm touched to have finally found others who feel the way I do about this special song - SMILES!!
Glad to hear you like this song I"ve been listening to since it first came out back in 1982. I never get tired of listening to this song! You probably never heard it before because it didn't hit big here in the US only UK and others. I've had a passion for this song ever since I first heard it on the radio. Glad to see someone else in the US likes it too! Smiles!!
Totally get you - been having identical thing going with Sharon Redd - Never gonna give you up..yup, same destiny and..yup, even from way back in '82 also:)
he flavour of the REAL ACID HOUSE funksters.. im 54 and 2 stents in and this musical generation just keeps on doing it for me. It was full of love.... and that's what attracted it to me. The most important youth cult this country has ever seen. I was at White Waltham sunrise and I can assure you I was not biting the heads off of pigeons (the sun) I was cuddling them. I felt love in those early raves, and that my dear friends is what a HUMAN should be about. Love Y'all Billy, Gravesend.
One very talented artist(Carly Simon)Two master musicians/Producers(Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers)One fabulous DJ(Larry LeVan R.I.P)One Unforgettable Club(Paradise Garage), and One Hot Cut(WHY?)...Those were good times......
It's this type of music and all that great stuff still buried in the 40s thru 80s that has me buying up vinyls at garage sales / online sites / ads on craigslist / and in thrift stores and the local Vinyl store... modern music doesnt have that style or soul anymore... I can easily grab a vinyl on a whim and play it and odds are i'll enjoy the music... cant do that almost ever with modern tunes and get the same results.
I was digging thru some records one day and saw this 12". I thought wow i've never seen a carly simon 12" single, i then saw who the producers were and gave the guy 50cents. Got it home and couldn't believe how good it was.
OHH MYYY GOODD!!! im only 15 years old an im blastin this shit. i keep my taste in music on the down low, cauze at skool if people knew i liked this, theyd b like WAT THE HELL?? but its still good to hear quality music. I LOVE THISS
I can promise you one thing. Wene carly dies there will be thousands of people on the street wondering were they will get the songs they used to love. Why is my favourite carly Simon song. It seems to have a certain sadness in beauty.
I heard this song back in 1982 when I was camping, just a young lad and when I first heard it I said who the hell is this singer.............Great song!!!
Yup, I totally agree!! BETTER than any new crap out there! I love you "Why by Carly Simon" I've always had and always will - lol Do you know that I still play this song after all these years? Yup, the ultimate fav of all time. Sing it to me baby!! La di da di da WHY La di da di da . . . tell me why . . . La di da di da!!
i loved this and the Teddy Pendergast Chic song from the minute I heard them but the movie bombed so badly that the soundtrack didn't get much attention even though it was great
This used to be played towards the end of the night back in the glory days of raves in '88-89! So too was Phil Collins 'in the air tonight'! Respect to those who remember it from then!
Actually, that was early 80s, which was, unbeknownst to most, the foundation of the summers of love. All over the world, they came to the the NY/NJ area that was the underground nexus of house, hip hop, rap, electro unknown to most, that led to what developed later...www.billboard.com/articles/news/dance/7581312/david-mancuso-tribute-tommie-sunshine
Fan Dancers were these guys who would bring these huge ornate fans and dance with them in a very choregraphed way - this was usually at around 9AM on Sunday morning when Morning Music was playing just before the club would shut down at 10 or 11 AM. Everyone would leave feeling good...
@downjones72 you're my age then - late Summer '82, after the World Cup in Spain - going back to school with this in the top 40.. memories!! Love the reggae-disco beat!!
.I can hear the NYC influence - the Garage/Peech/Larry drums/clap/reggae piano and Chic vibes on other parts guitar, bass, etc. Bernard Edwards of Chic on the VERY short list of best bassists back in the day. I mean, the best of the best back in the day. Another was the father of the original house sound and Paradise Garage habitue, NYC underground synthesist/bass master/producer Boyd Jarvis (Visual, Colonel Abrams, Billy..too many to list..many Garage Heads remember "the outrageous Boyd Jarvis bass lines") and NY/Philly bassist Raymond Earl of Instant Funk/Bunny Sigler; house bassist for NYC Salsoul records and Philly house bassist for MSFB and other Philly acts. THE BEST OF THE BEST, CREME DE LA CREAM AS THEY SAY IN THE CHIC ORGANIZATION.
NYC never gets the hype; NYers never speak on this but in truth mid-70s thru mid-80s it was ground zero for world dance whence came what we have now...house/hip hop/rap/electro....even techno was influenced, via hip hop/electro back in the day.
Don't think NYC never get's the hype Will, the UK scene was HUGELY influenced by those NYC sounds and is massively recognised over this side of the Pond for doing so. Perhaps one day we'll be rid of the current peurile, money-driven globalised drivel and go back to the future when music inspired genuine localised individuality and innovation.

Bought this on 12" vinyl in raleigh, southend when visiting a couple of girls with my mate in 1989. Brings back memories, what music is about I guess.
