    BEFORE you remove the fender, peel back your existing to the nearest seam to see if it is good there. Then cut the new one further back than what you need. Peel it back to the new seam off the car. Much easier than trying to find the spot welds in the car.

      No way I’d cut them at original points. Go outside the seam line by about 1/4 inch, and then work your way back. You’ll thank me for this later!

  • @richardhill4862
    @richardhill4862 6 місяців тому +4

    I would take the rear 1/4 panels or rear fenders as you are calling them, with the rear valance (taillight area) and enter support pieces all together. Cutting on the outside of the seam that can be cleaned up later flipped upside down on a beach. The 1/4 pillars can be sectioned about half way, or all of it including the roof piece if it's good. I would take the shock towers too if there good. Just a idea!

    This project is going to be sooo good! Wait until you drive the 2.0 for the first time, it's quick. And can be a little dangerous if you corner to fast. Makes you spin fast 😁

    Very cool CT! You've got to hang that old front license place on the wall. Or track down what it looked like and have it reproduced for the '76 using the original frame!

    • @CTmoog

      I believe that license plate originally said the word Tahiti across it with a circle and a blue line that went from red to orange to peach to yellow representing the sunset

    • @philipsdefreville6138
      @philipsdefreville6138 6 місяців тому

      I thought maybe that's what it was but I don't believe it says Tahiti. I can make out the letters "atiu" maybe "latiu". Will be very difficult to track down.

    Just in case someone hasn't already posted. L65K is Ravenna Green. VW sourced color only available 73-74. Named for the town in Italy its definitely got a niche fanbase in the Porsche community. Well done on sourcing that metal for $300!

    L65K is “Ravenna Green”
    Unless they back dated a ‘75 with ‘74 bumpers, it’s a ‘74. The ‘75 & ‘76 had the big slopey bumpers.
    It the VIN starts with 474, it’s a ‘74

    The big chunks of spare parts are always added up quickly. But the infinite number of small parts that you need ultimately add up to a large sum. So an investment of $300 into a parts car is well spent.

    The third digit of the chassis number indicates the year of manufacture. That's 4 in your case, so the car was built between 8/73 and 7/74. From 8/74 it was already a model from 1975.

    The car was manufactured in Western Germany, which since 1990 has become the Federal Republic after reunification. Even the metal plate with the info will become a collector's piece. Can you imagine how much the wheels alone would cost

    Hi there, Mr. CT. The green one is considered "junk", so I'm for peeling. Peel everything apart and then use only the pieces you need. Anyway it won't be driven anymore without extensive, and I mean extensive! repairs. Peel Everything, avoid cutting if not strictly necessary, you'll cut when replacing. Interesting though those get so rusty floors, maybe can be due to roof removal capability/leaking and/or water retaining inside (if upholstery and carpets get wet)...
    Pick the spots, peel apart. Anyway you need it only for parts.. 😉Use a plastic or rubber hammer to fix the trim pieces. Patience, my friend, patience is required to give in order to get success. Cheers.

    Nice find. Color on the parts car is Ravenna Green. Btw, with those bumpers, it is a 74. That color was only available in 73 and 74. On the red one, are you going to backdate to the early bumpers? IMO, they make the car look better than the huge impact bumpers of 75/76

    So I don’t know if this holds true for 911’s but for some of the cars I work on, you can get a list of core prices from specialty suppliers and they will pay for cores of certain items they can referb and resell, and you can get store credit. Just a thought for some of the stuff you can’t or won’t use

    Hi CT, I believe it is a July of 1974. The last month of the 1974 model year. As the left door jam build date sticker. I think I saw the 3rd digit as a 4. I would drill out spot welds separate all the pieces that way. I suggest using as much as original production part's as you can. The original color is Revenna Green L65K it came out on the 1973 Beetles & convertibles & Karmann Ghias.1974 only on Beetle convertible & Karman Ghias Discontinued after 1974 on V.W.'s Your VOLKSWAGEN encyclopedia. Let me know if you are interested my friend. It is in way better shape than this one..lol It is almost completely whole . The hood was damaged but I have the roof pieces and the back strip. 10:35: This is an assortment of all these UGLY 1970s colours, aargh! Orange, yellow, brown - the nastiest shades of paint you can have on your car. I remember to have spotted a Ford Granada (a Type built by Ford for the German and European markets ca. 1974 - 87) painted dark brown, with the roof covered in black vinyl! To me the epitome of bad taste🤢! Plus, everyone knows what happens when such a car is hit by the sun. Not good inside with the temperature hitting the 80°F mark!
