- With her eyes set on Paris 2024, Inside Gymnastics sat down with 3-time Olympic old medalist Gabby Douglas in January 2024 to discuss her decision to comeback to the sport after a 7 year hiatus. Douglas talks finding her love for the sport again and what it was like getting back in the gym.

She seems so different now. She seems relaxed, composed, and happy. This is wonderful. Cheered for you back in 2012 and 2016. Hope to cheer for you in 2024 in Paris!
It seems a lot of gymnasts are in that mind set and very mature. Plus less injuries and higher quality of the movements too. Probably because the former coaches are removed from the program and the sexual scandal came to light. The one thing that bothered me the most was the camps that took away the parents from being protective of their child. A predator’s playground.

I thinks she probably is disappointed about missing the bars medal that was very attainable (qualified into finals in third place)
@@Plaspos I hope she is ready to make the team I want her to get a bars/beam medal so bad those two apparatuses are her glory. But a bars medal in Rio was hers to lose so redemption is necessary
I think she’s got it from watching her in the past. I know she’s got that determination and hard work that will get her that goal of getting that metal.
If I remember correctly was it that she did poorly or was she disqualified because of the 2 person per country rule? I feel like she had a good showing, but she was overshadowed by the politics and icy reception from a specific teammate who became the new darling and basically made her old teammates freeze her out during that Olympic cycle.
@@AbracadabraBipipityBopotyBOO she took third over all in the all around qualification in Rio behind Simon and Aly but she made bars final but had a mistake that cost her. People really acted like she didn't deserve her spot she was the 2015 world silver all around medalist behind Simone that says she was still a contender and a great asset to team usa
She sounds so grounded, calm, and confident! That plus the beautiful gymnastics we're seeing... it's going to be amazing to watch her compete again.

I hope she feels all the love and support there is out there for her from Gym fans. Beyond that, the girl is a natural. Not many people could walk away for six years and come back to that level of strength and flexibility. I can't wait to see her compete.
Her energy and aura is so different. She seems to be in a healthier mental state and it’s soooo good to see her be genuinely joyful.
I’ve loved Gabby ever since 2012, she definitely went through a lot during 2016, but I’m so glad that she has grown from the pain, moved on, and become stronger!

Gabby, I am SO proud of you !! I watched your incredible Olympic performances in 2012 & 2016; I remember clearly how upset and distressed you looked in '16. (By the way, the 2 athletes per country rule SUCKS). I am now facing retirement, and like you, I want so much to end on a good note. I really hope to see you in Paris ! I'm so happy to hear that she will be competing again! I remember when I was six I watched her compete in the London Olympics. She inspired me to get into gymnastics and become a gymnast. Thank you for being such an inspiration Gabby!

She's right about the ageism in Women's gymnastics. I remember watching Cathy Rigby and Olga Korbut growing up. Women gymnasts were done by their late teens or early 20s they competed in college. Not anymore.
Agreed and comebacks were rare we had 3 from 92 compete in Atlanta but after that 2 in 2000, but from 04-12 no one, it wasn’t til Aly in 2016 that things started to change on the Olympic front

What happened?
@@RishiLuxshe received an immense amount of hate for any and everything she did sadly. People claimed she needed to "smile" and "didn't look enthusiastic" as well as other dumb stuff like judging her hair. The amount of hate people gave her was truly sad
@murasakino101 oh ok, yes I do remember all that dumb stuff.
@@murasakino101 Not only the things you mentioned, but she was being attacked by fans of one of the other athletes who didn't make the team, and I won't mention names as it is in the past. Those fans were relentless in their hate, bashing her for any and everything.
@@Evilene52 you're totally right! I forgot about that as well. It's even more sad when a certain athlete literally posted a monkey emoji online towards her and people turned a blind eye to it due to controversial comments Gabby made before and because they felt like "it was warranted since Gabby shouldn't have been on the team" despite her being the reigning Olympic AA champion smh. I could go on but there's no need to. I'm just glad she found her love for the sport again and I pray people will treat her better this time

Como é bom ver o retorno da Gabby, uma lenda da ginástica, provando que esse sistema cruel que a imporam para as atletas não é maior que a paixão delas por esse esporte lindo.
Dói ver como pegam jóias como a Gabby e a ferem, maltratam em busca de resultados e patrocínio. Mas aí está ela. Mais forte e mais firme.
Mesmo que ela não estivesse em Paris estou feliz em vê-la competindo, fazendo aquilo que nasceu para fazer e principalmente, não desistir antes do tempo.
Ao mesmo é triste ver que atletas como ela não tem outra perspectiva na vida , depois que aposentam.
Gabby was/is my all-time favorite woman’s gymnast! Her style, her smile, her personality was always authentic and she is a beautiful gymnast. I hope she places well in this coming year. I hope she gets a spot on the Olympic team too. Go fly Gabby!

To be completely honest, she looked absolutely miserable at the Rio Olympics. She looks radiant and happy here!

Well, her own people kind of turned against her, I mean in 2012 people felt like Komova was robbed but it was more so against judges, in 2016 somehow Americans were attacking her for every single thing she did, including the way her hair looked, it was just awful, I remember I read an article saying that she was very reserved at the 2016 Olympics, and that after the bars final she just avoided reporters, went to a corner alone and started crying, like really bad, it just made me sad to see how everyone seemed to hate her for no reason.
