IL2 1946 is pretty much timeless, it might be old but it is still one of the best WWll flight sims there is.
Rumors say that the Halifax is still sliding on to this day.

Start by patching it up to v12 and then look at mods. Sasforums have a lot of mods and new aircraft, the Amerikabomber seems to be the latest, and I'm sure there are lots of other groups around

The best mod for me is BAT mod, si just upgrade your game to the lod 4.12.m and then upgrade to BAT

That aircraft is called the Heinkel Lerche. It's an exotic fighter aircraft due to its VTOL capabilities, able to take-off or land vertically on its tail. Unfortunately, while it's very futuristic and cool, there was no way it could've been made due to its exotic design. The designers were never able to figure out how to set up the aircraft's controls, because if you may have noticed the aircraft's annular wing design and shape, there was no place to put the ailerons needed for rolling (the two contra-rotating propellers would clip and damage them). Also, because of the aircraft's compact size, the cockpit was designed so that the pilot needs to lie down (not sitting unlike in conventional aircraft), and the problem with this configuration was that the pilot could only get in through the front; however, if the pilot needed to get out in an emergency, he's trapped (the only way out is forward, and you'll have no chance getting out if the aircraft is in a nose-dive or spin).

Yes, to a point at least. There are Modpacks that add Korean and Vietnam era planes as well

I hope you realize that the Kamikaze planes were _gliders_ and had no engine on them
They did? They fired them up after gliding. The trainer were gliders though
@hotel? trivago, the point of the plane was that it was built cheap so that it could be mass produced and easily disposed of without wasting money or materials. So, there was no engine in them
