I don't even know how I got here lol but ohhhhh I do remember the days of landscaping when I was younger. The hot days of summer whew. Fall leaves like this. Its a lot of work. The bigger the yard the more work.
I used to do property management/maintenance for a private high-end community once a year I did everything from cleaning the yards to helping out with family projects. It was fun! I had to do fall clean up one year and it was a lot a total of about 15 acres and a ton of trees, I needed to rent a machine with a blower, a leaf brush, and a giant leaf vac the community gave me permission to it so I did I also hired some people that were looking for some part time work and got together to get the job done. What I learned was getting the proper equipment makes a difference! It was a lot of fun! 😂 the people were really nice and I had a full day of hot drinks food, snacks so cool! I wish more communities were like that!
Besides your local township/city compost areas, a lot of larger mulch supply yards will take yard waste for a small fee and usually have hours from 8am-4pm all Fall!
use a landscape rake to feed the vac and try to have one of the guys follow you when you use the leaf plow. Push the row and have them blow the remaining leaves into the next pass.
These people are not very bright owners of property paying for hauling leaves and not mowing back into the yard like a millionaire land maintenance enterprise and I do not rip of people and mulched the leaves and a lot more professional 28years I've been same kind of job......
Very cool video, I really like it. Everything is well coordinated, the announcements are clear. And above all, you do everything calmly, one after the other, with an overview. And the music is really cool too. You are a good team, keep it up. Best wishes, Timo from Germany..😉💯👍🏻
I used to work at a 180 acre golf course, every fall we had to do this. I got very efficient at moving leaves! We had big blower machines that we would tow behind a mower or golf cart. We used back pack blowers and rakes also but the tow behind blowers were a must.
If you can find some way to shred the leaves going into the trailer you can get way more in the trailer. I have down the leaf collecting with my mulching mower and bagger for the last 10 years. I have created a compost heap in my back yard for the good black dirt the leaves make.
The loader is supposed to shred it quite a bit as it gets loaded, though I believe the inner lining on this one needs replaced so it was not shredding very well for us this Fall.
We always mulch as much leaves at the front of the yard as possible, really helps save on room, it’s very dusty but I can fit 3 yards worth in a trailer your size. Good video though, fun to see how other guys do it
Hey there Sawyer! You have a LOT of full leafs in your leaf box. One way to fit more leafs in your box would be to blow the leafs into the intake hose with the handhelds. It allows the machine to process the leafs better and faster rather that being sucked up in big chunks by running the intake hose directly into the pile. Saves your back and arms from all the raking too! My regular routine is to blow everything into the driveway then blow them directly into the intake hose. The cement drives allow the leaves to be moved easier and quicker, and the debris loader is able to mulch the leafs better because they aren't being run through as chunks of leafs bogging the machine down and just transferring the leafs from the ground to the box. Nice video! You got a 100% watch time from me!
Appreciate it! For these particular types of piles we are unable to do that, this pile has way more leaves in it than it looks. When you use the leaf plow, it does move huge amounts of leaves but it also super compacts them into effectively leaf mats that have to be broken up with rakes in order to even get them into the debris loader. If this was a loose pile it would be probably twice this size! Its an unfortunate trade off of using the plow. Easier on the front end, harder on the back end of the job.
@@sawyerslawncareservice I have heard that plowing the leaves does that. I wouldn’t even know where to start bidding a property that big! 🤣. All my properties are smaller subdivisions with a max price of $500. Best of luck with the leaves this year!! The incoming calls for service is out of control! Get it while ya can lol.
Did grounds maintenance for a local school district for 35 years. When I retired in 2012 the mower I was using was a John Deere F1145 front mower. 4x4 72 inch deck with a mulch kit installed. When it came to leaves it simply made then disappear. One pass, but if they were a little deep two passes and the leaves were in such small pieces they were gone down in the grass. By spring it was as if we had no trees I t was such a good strong running mower. 28 hp Yanmar it plowed snow with turf tires so well a great sidewalk clearing machine. Curtis hard cab with heat. Now they use a Ven Trac mower in it's place. Not sure if they traded it or sent it to one of the other schools.
Yeah I blow the leaves off the hard surfaces and into the yard and use a rake for matted leaves in tight spots here and there and then after 1-2 passes even a thick layer of leaves basically becomes nothing but lawn feed with a good mulching set up. I never understand all the people raking leaves in the neighborhood just to throw them in bags to be dumped at a landfill when that's just more work and a waste of great lawn feed. I've even experimented with taking the push mower with a good mulching blade to waist high piles of leaves and while it takes more than 2 passes even those leaves disappear like magic.
Good job men. I do work like this too, but on a smaller scale. It's best to get decent masks and by that I mean decent ones! You wouldn't believe how many mold spores there are in old leaves. The whirling causes some spores to fly through the air. There are very good masks that allow you to breathe freely. You'll notice it in the evening when your nose is clear! Many greetings from Germany
3 zero turn stand ups with leaf plows would cut the time tremendously. The Ventrec is an amazing machine, but the zeroturns are much quicker . My Jerco plows appear to clean the grass better with each pass. It's nice that this is all downhill.
I know I'm a bit late to the video but keeping a 2x2ft board with some handles on the back stashed on the truck could help with compacting the leaves down into the trailer
I used use ride on mower to shred leaves then suck them up, then have lawn blown and raked. But after I did my part I would start sucking up pile so I did t have my guys raking pile over and over. Plus i kept up with Billy goat shredder using rider mulched leaves then Billy goat shredded them again. So got lots of leaves in dump bed. 40 yrs experience. ..
Cyclone Rake XL , if homeowner ran this machine once a week during fall they would save a ton of money and keep there yard looking nice, never was one for waiting til all the leaves fell b4 cleaning up the yard. good way to get bald spots and mud pits.
I good idea would be to buy a big board to place in the trailer with the leaves to push down a large area at once and not have the leaves come through. Covers a greater area than just stamping with your feet!
Very satisfying to watch, having had to clear my yard of 6 inch deep carpet of leaves alone several times. Would be great to have another blower blowing in different direction when trying to clear tight spaces and corners. But the final collection with vacuum mulched was frustrating. You were overwhelming the guy w the hose and throwing leaves all over so he had to suck all over. Should have had him sweep just one arch and rake leaves into that arch only. Or better yet, have him remain stationary and nudge leaves to him with leaf pusher. There were so many leaves the rakers could have laid in leaves and taken it easy for a few minutes until the vacuum guy cleared all the leaves within reach, then pushed some more to him. Seems like you finally got it towards the very end. They kept swamping him with enough leaves to take 5 minutes to clear. Also knew that massive amount of leaves wouldn’t fit in that trailer. But amazed how much did.
Thanks for watching! So there is actually a reason behind all the extra raking. When you use the leaf plow to move the leaves, it actually compacts them into matted sections of leaves that the debris loader cannot suck up. You have to break them apart with the rakes in order to get them through the debris vac. The Plow makes for a faster cleanup on the front end, but a little more difficult on the back end when finishing up the job!
You should definitely invest in one of those huge ride on blowers for big jobs like this. Then once they’re in the big pile, one match takes care of the rest!🔥🍁
Back in my day we didnt have all these fancy machines. We used nothing but a dinner fork and good ol' fashioned elbow grease. I would of had this yard done in 2 hours flat, by myself. I would of taken another hour or two and fashioned all the leaves into bricks and constructed a barn out of em. Yup, those were the days.
And i would have hired you to rake upall the leaves in our 3.5 acre pasture, and put them in the 8x8 foot compost heap as I have done in the past. Now i cheat, have a leaf blower and a Kubota tractor with a bucket! I am also 20 years older than i was when we first moved here! Lol
FYI this property is the highest elevation property in Stark Co.Just a cool little fun fact I learned a few years back. I service the property across the street and I would never take on this job due to the gravel issue. My only suggestion for you is to buy a bigger loader. I used the 18 hp units in the past and they are wasting all your time. You want at least a 25 hp with a 12 '' hose. It will change your life forever. The larger loaders will also solve your packing problem since they can force more material farther back into your bin and grind it very fine, the 2 stage units will also give you more yield per load to the point where you won't really need to increase the size of your bin because the weight of the processed material will probably be close to the max GVWR of that trailer anyway. Your overall process is very much like how I do all my big jobs, the leaf plow is the best tool for this job.
Interesting fact! Yeah this debris loader usually grinds stuff up a lot better, the inner liner needs replaced on it. There is actually a spot in it now next to one of the bolts where it is worn through and some leaf debris spits out when in operation. Along with that the leaf plow does compact the leaves quite abit in the pile so it makes them much harder to suck up. It needs to go in for a tune up as it has been running a little rough this Fall overall. We charge by the labor hour for our Fall cleanups so we aren't technically wasting time with a smaller loader, it is just what we have to work with at this point in time. For this particular leaf box setup, we will probably just stick to this loader for now, when it is operating properly it is not too bad and there is currently other equipment we are investing in outside of Fall cleanup equipment! For sure we will be upgrading to a much bigger debris loader eventually when we build leaf box 2.0 on a bigger dump trailer down the road, that will be after we upgrade to larger trucks/trailers.
Nice video How many acres was the job size? What happens to the leaves after they are in the truck? Is it sold to be put in a large pile as mulch to decompose into leaf litter compost for sale to gardeners in the spring? If so what does it sell for per pound or cubic yard?
Thanks! I'm not sure on the exact acreage of this property, we don't really account for the size in our pricing, we charge by the labor hour for our Fall cleanup services. After they are in the truck, we take them to a composting facility where we pay to drop it off. They turn it into compost and mulch to sell back to their clients.
That tractor is a great idea. I need one for my property. I have 5 acres about 3 are fields as we use to have horses. Fall is crazy im currently doing everything with one Husqvarna backpack blower and i also use a echo hand held in my free arm. It so much work. Why do you use the echo backpack blowers? Is it the power
I do prefer how the STIHL blowers operate, but they changed their design so they don't fit on the trailer mounts I use on some of my trailers, so I went with the Echo ones. They do have a decent bit of power but it seems like you have to choke them every time you want to start them up. Sounds like you should invest in a Ventrac! Their brush hog and either a leaf plow or a turbine blower (for the leaves) if you have a lot of trees! It's nice being able to just swap out the attachments pretty quickly between mowers, buckets, power rakes, etc. Ill be buying more of their tractors/attachments in the future, love it so far!
Its monday afternoon. My wife walks in the room and says " you watching other guys work?" Yes because i did my yard with a backpack blower and just sent them into the woods in the back yard because its also my property. Big pile of leaves they can compost back there off the grass. Was going to mow one more time but lawn tractor won't start change the starter, and relay still slow running starter batters at 12 volts on a 50 amp charger in jump mode. Pulled both plugs motor turns but seems like it still has compression I think i might have some stuck valves ill have to ck the valve lash. Last time i used it it ran fine.
So it has a grinder inside of it. I recently got it serviced and it had a lot of problems with it that were leading to it not working properly. Apparently its been running on just 1 of 2 cylinders in the engine and the inner liner that helps it make the particles smaller needed replaced, it should be working a lot better once they are done with it!
@1hr7min, your battery hold down is installed wrong. The angle bracket should be over the top outside corner so that it holds the battery down and back. That's why the bolts are sticking out so far right now. Once you move it to the corner there won't be much bolt protrusion. The way it is installed now could cause a short across the battery posts. 🔥
The debris loader was not working properly at the time of this video (2023). It normally does a great job of mulching up the leaves as they are sucked up! We got it fixed, sold, and purchased a giant unit for cleanups this year! (2024)
Very nice job! I was thinking would it not be easier with that big of property to blow leaves open areas of yard and hit them with a couple of stander mowers with gator blades? Make a couple and dice those leaves up into basically nothing . Makes a nice fertilizer and nutrients for lawn as well!
@@neilr1492oak leaves have so much tannin in them, that unless you compost them first in a bin or pile, the acid will kill the grass underneath. Not a problem with sweet laves like maple or birch
Too many mulched leaves can cause problems on the lawn. This client wanted them removed from the property altogether, though we occasionally get requests to mulch them into the yard!
Instead of stomping the leave to compact them try using a piece of ply wood cut in half so its not to heavy lay on top of the leaves in bed of truck and step on the board with another person should compact a large area quickly
When it has a net on it there really isn't an easy way to get them off of it. With our fall cleanups being by the labor hour, its not really something our clients want us wasting time on.
We occasionally have customers who want us to mulch them instead of mow, but most around here prefer removal. we do have our mower decks equipped with mulching blades this time of year if the request comes up! Some of our mowing route clients do have us just keep mowing longer into the year on our weekly route to mulch them up instead of doing a cleanup, but we don't normally film those.
I tried this method. Very inefficient. I have properties larger than you just did with more trees and I can do it in less time with less people and less labor...same amount of equipment per piece. This business is a learning curve, and after 17 years and a lot of mistakes, and watching a lot of great companies UA-cam videos, I kinda got it dialed in. Always learning. Time is money! Keep up the good work! Thanks for the video!
Just thinking out loud, with these type jobs, have you ever considered partering with a roll off dumpster company and rented a skid steer by the week to collect the leaves? Seems like it takes an awful lot of time to suck them up with the vacuum. With roll off duspter and skid steer, you could quickly load the leaves in by machine.
It does take a minute to get it loaded, but it's just a part of the job! We charge by the labor hour for our Fall cleanup services. That particular set of euipment rentals would probably be cost effective for some landscape jobs but not for us when it comes to leaves 🙂
@@sawyerslawncareservice right right, just wanst sure how beneficial it would be for renting those services for the few weeks you do leaves. Obviously it would cost money for rentals but if you could then take on more jobs it might equate to more money.
Lol I can imagine this guy explaining to his wife why he needs to buy this big as tractor and plow to push leaves, how much time it saves rather than just blowing them the whole way haha
Just an idea but if you got the flail mower for the ventrac you could mulch them before you vacuum. I'm not impressed with the shredding of the billy goat.
We currently use 2 Wright Stander X, with 52in Decks. It is a really good machine, especially on hills! It does have some issues with clumping wet grass and not throwing it very far even with high lift blades on wet, thick lawns. It really depends on how the grass is in your area. I would for sure do some research on UA-cam before making your first mower purchase. Personally I may be switching over to the Toro Multi-force mowers in the future, they have a higher price tag, but they seem to handle wet grass better and have a lot of other options we are interested in! Hope this helps!
Yes it does! I know wright was the OG w/ stand ons but have been looking at bad boy, toro, exmark and gravley. Much appreciated@@sawyerslawncareservice
Another major thing to keep in mind is Toro has their "Point system". If you are buying it as a commercial business purchase. I believe one multiforce + 1 attachment gets you tier 1, 2 mowers purchased gets you tier 2 pricing. (don't quote me on that). Here is a link to what i'm talking about. www.toro.com/en/professional-contractor/fleet-program

So amazing....well done!🎉
Thank you!! 😊
I hate my monster cleanups..love the postage stamps!
Never thought I'd watch a leaf clean up video while recording a farming simulator video
In my neck of the woods we don’t see many Mansford style roofs
i wonder if one ran a trimmer inside if it would break down the thickness of the leaves
It is very nice to watch huge leaf pile lol😅
Seems to me that your instructions confuses the other kids
Fair, I sometimes confuse even myself 😅
Crew did a helluva job nonetheless
Fr😅😅😅
Work as u go
No
Nice video
How many acres was the job size?
My wife walks in the room and says
" you watching other guys work?"
Yes because i did my yard with a backpack blower and just sent them into the woods in the back yard because its also my property.
Big pile of leaves they can compost back there off the grass.
Was going to mow one more time but lawn tractor won't start change the starter, and relay still slow running starter batters at 12 volts on a 50 amp charger in jump mode.
Pulled both plugs motor turns but seems like it still has compression
I think i might have some stuck valves ill have to ck the valve lash.
Last time i used it it ran fine.
Hope you can get it running again! Hey I watch landscape videos too when I'm not working 😋 I get it.
Do they make a leaf grinder to go in-line with the vacuum? Sounds like that could be very advantageous. Great work!
Ill have to take a look at that!
My suggestion for packing the leaves down in your box would be after opening the top, run a weed whip in there
The debris loader was not working properly at the time of this video (2023).
You can do that yes! This customer wanted them removed from the property.
Remove the nutrients in the fall, put down fertilizer in the spring. Keep the lawn care companies in business :) People are funny.
@@neilr1492oak leaves have so much tannin in them, that unless you compost them first in a bin or pile, the acid will kill the grass underneath. Not a problem with sweet laves like maple or birch
You should invest in a lawn mower attachment rake system it’s so much faster
Need way more venting on thw trailer
I saw your thumbnail and thought "look at all that mulch
We do lay a lot of mulch, but not in this particular video!
So many of those leaves could have been mulched with a mower. Great fertilizer for the lawn.
Too many mulched leaves can cause problems on the lawn. This client wanted them removed from the property altogether, though we occasionally get requests to mulch them into the yard!
I wouldn’t have the patience with that vacuum! Doesn’t it have a seperate motor to the muncher??
It has one engine to chop it up and suck it up. We are possibly looking at investing in a bigger setup next season!
Instead of stomping the leave to compact them try using a piece of ply wood cut in half so its not to heavy lay on top of the leaves in bed of truck and step on the board with another person should compact a large area quickly
I think you guys need a skeg windstorm
Great for next year’s compost!
No clean trampolim?? And i work this i clean everyf.. This is good work!
When it has a net on it there really isn't an easy way to get them off of it. With our fall cleanups being by the labor hour, its not really something our clients want us wasting time on.
@@sawyerslawncareservice True Sr. Im srry. Have nice day Sr. And good jobe.
Have you or your customers ever considered mulching mowers? Less labour, noise, fuel...maybe time?
We occasionally have customers who want us to mulch them instead of mow, but most around here prefer removal. we do have our mower decks equipped with mulching blades this time of year if the request comes up!
Some of our mowing route clients do have us just keep mowing longer into the year on our weekly route to mulch them up instead of doing a cleanup, but we don't normally film those.
I think I watched this last year, but here I am again, thanks algorithm. Lol
Hoping to do it again and have another video of it this year! 🙂
Out of pure curiosity how much did you charge this customer? This looks really cool!
How long did it take you to that yard
I believe a little over 3 hours with 3 people 👍
@@sawyerslawncareservice That's 9 man hours. Way too long!
Enormous job. Well done. It looks like there aren’t that many trees…where did all those leaves come from?
Thanks! They have one big one in the front yard, several large ones behind the house and a big line of trees on both sides of the property!
Thanks for the video!
what do you do with the leaves after you fill up your Trailer?
We have disposal facilities in the area for yard waste where you pay to drop it off!
The tractor does so much more than just push leaves though 😂
You guys should mulch up with one tractor and use another to pick it up. Walker's are ideal for these clean ups.
Our current mower setup would not allow for that but you could with the right setup!
where do the leaves you removed go? How heavy was this load? The leaf vacuum reminds of some Dr Suess machines I remember seeing.
Hello! Our leaves go to multiple local disposal facilities that process it into premium mulch for the following season to be used in Landscape beds!
Seems like a really expensive machine Just to push leaves when a large tarp works really well too to drag them
It is for sure, but we only use it for a few minutes at a time!
You are good
Imagine all the little bugs going for a ride in the wind 😊🙂↕️🙏🙏
Just an idea but if you got the flail mower for the ventrac you could mulch them before you vacuum. I'm not impressed with the shredding of the billy goat.
I'm not quite sure its designed to do that but I wouldn't mind owning one!
I wonder, how many hours did that take?
About 3 hours with 3 people!
Wonder what a job of this magnitude costs?
This one was around $800-1000
@@sawyerslawncareservice Huh, that was unexpected. Thanks for the response. I suppose that's not too terrible a price all things considered.
I give in...😮
Looking to get in to the lawn care business how much would you bid on something like that
We charge by the labor hour for our cleanups along with a disposal charge per dump trailer load. This one was around $600-$800
What will be done to the leaves when you dump them?
They go to a large debris disposal facility which will turn it into mulch for next year!
Wouldn't it be easier to just burn the leaves at the property? Just a West Coaster here, who doesn't know any better, but I am wondering. 👍
Yeah.. That's not really something you should do. I have seen it done, but that is asking for all sorts of trouble!
What stand up do you use? How do you like it? Considering getting our first stand on, not sure a brand yet

Ooo had no idea about this, surprised the dealer didn't mention it. Will look into that, thanks again!@@sawyerslawncareservice
Where is this place? Looks so nice and attractive.
It's in NE Ohio, in Fall!
@@sawyerslawncareservice Thank you =)
Two roller blower’s and a heavy capacity vacuum and your done
The home owner has a nice lawn for having so much leaf cover. Must be fescue.
Hope you can keep your leafs for humus.
Black gold
We don't really have a place to store it, but the disposal facility turns it back into premium mulch that we use in the Spring and Summer!
