My Rosco used to steal cigarettes. Camel non filter, from My Dad. After work he'd sit on a chair, under the plum tree. If he took a nap, Rosco would be right over there swiping cigarettes out of his pocket. Dad would only put 2 or 3 in his pocket so he wasn't getting too many. Then he'd go after the beer can. Usually managed to wake Dad up after he drank it all and started kicking the can.. They're all so many different characters.
Just stumbled upon your channel and I have to say I adore Miss Lena! She is just the cutest!! And I have to laugh at some universal horsey behaviors like rolling immediately after being turned out in the arena. My horse (Palomino QH) ALWAYS does that! Lovely herd and I really enjoyed watching them play.
I am only 12 minutes in and I am (excuse me) LMAO at these beauties! What fun they are having. I love it when they kick and roll. Thank you from #Scotland
Thank you for taking time out of your day for this video! I loved seeing how each one wanted to roll in the sand! They’re so different- each one is different. Each wanted to stretch, run and groom each other-at least some wanted to! Thanks again-it’s so interesting!
Gracie is a dream to watch she is soo full of herself and life. I'm enjoying learning about the habits of all the horses herding and blocking..finding the whole thing very interesting and enjoy so much happy I found your channel
I just stumbled upon your site beautiful 😍 horses 🐎 I grew up with horses and I had a few and miss not being able to go 😢 out and seeing them in the morning, going on trail rides when I lived in Texas. I couldn't bring my colt back to Illinois with me and it broke my heart to let her go 💔 😔 😪. It was the first to raise from a baby and I'd come so far with her. I get on every site I can
Thanks for sharing your herd time. I like your method of release when letting the horses into the arena, making sure they are listening to you. Too many people allow their horses to make a made rush, putting the human in a dangerous situation.
yep. he really works on this; check out older videos to see him work on this. Graeme says his goal is to have each of his herd think he is their bestest buddy and want to be with him until he walks away. it is lovely to see bc they all do. I love the way they all stroll over occasionally to check in with him, make sure he doesn't need anything from them. ❤
Hi Graeme, Little Miss has the entry to the arena down like a pro! I could watch her and Gracie all day. So much happy energy!! Gracie still cracks me up with the tail kicking. :) Wow, did you see that sliding turning stop at point 11:14 or so?!!!
I can watch them for hours too, and I have today because we have finally got rain in the Waikato area of the north island NZ after a very long stretch of hot weather, so it’s perfect for plonking on the couch and viewing!! I laugh a lot at the horses, joka’s pot scrubber forelock, Lena’s big old bum and her ability to give a perfect indication of depression (its an act I know) the way she plants her feet, hangs her head and stays stock still. To my mind, Luke has perfect physical form and just from watching him move, I bet he’s a really comfortable ride. Love him. 💕
Looks like a beautiful day for all of you. Thanks for sharing, I'm new here, I love this channel and the people who follow you. It's just like a small piece of heaven in a world gone completely bonkers. Take care.
It's so enjoyable to take in all their personalities and how they interact with each other. It's just like being there in person. The drone view you showed above your area when it was foggy below was breath taking.
LOL...and to think when I was in the 4th grade, my friend who was also in the 4th grade had a dozen + standard bred horses in the pasture and we were just messing around on the farm. She would have me stand still and close my eyes, then she would take a big rubber ball and throw it towards the horses to get them running towards me and then I could open my eyes as the horses ran around me....I didn't know I was supposed to be scared. Sure was fun!
Have you ever though of putting drain tile buried in pea gravel in the arena. Since there is sand, it would be good to put a drain tile 'sock' on the drain tile so it would not fill with sand over time. It might help with your sand wash away issues...
I have. Putting anything under the arena would be a major undertaking at this time. When I built it originally, I put down anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of road base and then rolled over it with a 16 thousand pound machine that turned it into almost concrete. Under that is a strong fabric to keep the mud from coming up. Then sand. If I were to dig this up, I would need an excavator to remove a whole area, cut the fabric and then lay pipe, fill back in around, fabric again, road base (and get the machine back) and make sure the consistency and density matches around it. Anything short of doing a perfect job of it and I'd have a mess of an arena in no time as the horses really chew it up when they are running around. Thanks though :)
This was absolutely amazing!!! These are the things I'm eager to learn about their behaviour, respect, safety. I don't own a house but I'm thinking about getting at least 4. I need to crunch numbers😂😂. So first I need to make sure I get the whole picture and then go volunteer nereby. If it goes well, then I may go through with the idea 🤓🤓🤔🤔. Thanks a lot!!! I've watched so many of your video's now and really love what you are doing but just have two questions. 1 - Would the horses act any differently if you weren't in the arena with them during this playtime? 2 - I have to ask if you have a favourite horse to ride? Thank you so much for doing what you do.
Thank you! Glad to have you. 1. Probably but not a lot different. 2. Depends on what I'm doing, but overall Luke is my favorite, Lena comes in a close second.
hi graeme ..uk here i was looking at the queens ascension video (70 years today)and randomly saw your lovely video ...have now watched at least four big ones and loving the snapshots! am wondering if you have ever read anything of monty roberts or indeed seem him in action, i'm noticing your horses join up's ie mouth/lip licking when you interact with them and when you're introducing them to each other they definitely seem to be interacting with you and each other in this way..just thought i'd mention it in case you aren't horse watching in this way but forgive me if you've mentioned this before i'm a newbie! and keep up with the brilliant work i didn't realise what horse rescue ethos you were going with when i first joined you
Yes, I'm quite aware of Monty and his methods. I don't consider him to much of a horseman unfortunately, sorry about that, it seems you're a fan of what he does and how he interprets horse behaviors. That's ok, doesn't mean I'm right! I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos though :)
Thank you so much for your videos! It was such an interesting contrast watching you letting Luke go vs. letting Roni go into the arena. Luke stayed calm and connected with you despite the other two horses running towards him. Is that what you're looking for when releasing a horse into the arena? How much of that do you think is dictated by Luke's personality vs. his connection to you? Do you think his position in the herd makes a difference too?
Yes, I want a horse to leave me only after I leave them. Essentially letting them know they can follow or leave. His personality is amazing and our connection is so solid. I don't think his position in the herd makes a difference for that.
Horses chewing on wood-there is an old mule barn here from when it was my grandfather’s farm and there are spots where the mules chewed the outside wall of the stalls. I can remember when I was little and followed my grandfather plowing with a mule.
Do you ever get a few people walking up just to watch the horses? The thing is, I'd get scared, worried, or whatever it is when I had to get the back side of my horse for grooming and clipping of hooves. I was always afraid of getting kicked. He'd never done anything to me to cause such concern, but that is the sharp end of a horse and trained or not. they can have a bad day, and then, pow, I get kicked! I'd never been hurt in any way, shape, or form by Champ, but... Donut kicked the crap out of me. Well, she reared up and caught my face with her hoof and sent me to the ER. I learned that day , the sharp end of a horse is all the way around!! I still want a couple of horses, but I know I can't afford the cost of vets, feed, shoes, stalls, and on and on. It would not be fair to the horse to get one just to fulfill my wants and needs! So I watch yours! Great videos, thanx for sharing them with us!!!
I believe that Ronie thinks he and Lena are married. However, I get the sense that Lena is on the fence about this. She's an independent woman-I mean horsey!
I just want to know what kinda of horse breeds do u have just wondering ok I loved horses myself since I was growing up indeed I went horse back riding when I was young too.
Forgive me if it's been asked and answered, but why have you set up separate pens for all of them and they only get to interact during playtime? Aside from food/water intake monitoring.
Hi Penny. Joining a live stream is just being online at the right time (until I get around to scheduling these things....) and if you click the notification bell/button then UA-cam should let you know on your phone etc.
Is Gracie an Arabian, because she's so athletic and runs and kicks like an Arabian. An old friend of mine had 2 Arabians and they played the same way. I absolutely love Fluff, he just wants petting and gets right in front of you no matter what is going on, it's so funny
Chewing wood is called cribbing, a lot of stall horses do it. But the way you treat and keep your horses I don't see why they would do it, as most times it is a sign of boredom more than anything else.
Graeme, I saw something tonight that made me feel sick. CT's touch horses/dogs, especially a video called "kick it back...feel these spurs" ua-cam.com/video/bcSRELowITO/v-deo.html. I think he lives in Muskogee, OK. Is there any way to address this? This is not simply abuse; it is sadistic.
Yay! Another lovely horsey play time! Could you put Joka in first (or second or third) next time? I always feel bad for her being last. 🥲 Everyone else has less energy by the time she gets in.
My Rosco used to steal cigarettes. Camel non filter, from My Dad. After work he'd sit on a chair, under the plum tree. I love how when you lead a horse into the area and you turn to close the gate, the horse immediately turns to you and waits!
I'm quite a stickler for that as it means that they are being safe. It really bothers me when a horse wants to leave me right away.

I seen horses do that after they have been ridden and cleaned.
Luke, 8000 dollar horse x
Lead is playful
Forgive me if it's been asked and answered, but why have you set up separate pens for all of them and they only get to interact during playtime? Aside from food/water intake monitoring.
Easier for everybody for maintenance and upkeep and food anxiety.
How do I join and where do I join when you are live?
Hi Penny. Joining a live stream is just being online at the right time (until I get around to scheduling these things....) and if you click the notification bell/button then UA-cam should let you know on your phone etc.
The ends of Little Miss mane almost look purple to me...
How old is Lena? She reminds me of a grandmotherly type😄 Probably not the way go look at things regarding horses but...🤷♀️
Do you ever brush and wash them?
yes
does Yoka not like to play with the others? Because of size?
A great question. Not sure exactly.
A little bit rotund ! 🤣
Love me some Lena🧡🧡
💛💛 it, how often do you let them together?
daily if possible
How many horses do you have

I'm curious as to why Yoka is unusually needy in this video. I know it's a little late at this point... 😄
Are all or some of your horses from rescues?

Is Gracie an Arabian, because she's so athletic and runs and kicks like an Arabian. An old friend of mine had 2 Arabians and they played the same way.
I absolutely love Fluff, he just wants petting and gets right in front of you no matter what is going on, it's so funny
yes
JENNA
Yoka's eyebrows need scratching, Dad!
Whole lotta Lena.
Ditto
Chewing wood is called cribbing, a lot of stall horses do it. But the way you treat and keep your horses I don't see why they would do it, as most times it is a sign of boredom more than anything else.
None of the horses here crib fortunately
I think the horses would to go much farther...in a big field!
Ha, that's true. :)
42:22 why did you say that about Icelandics? 🤨😡
It's a joke... I'm literally talking to a horse.
@@StableHorseTraining yeah that’s what I thought 💪😏
Graeme, I saw something tonight that made me feel sick. CT's touch horses/dogs, especially a video called "kick it back...feel these spurs" ua-cam.com/video/bcSRELowITO/v-deo.html. I think he lives in Muskogee, OK. Is there any way to address this? This is not simply abuse; it is sadistic.
The video seems to have been taken down. I don't know what "CT" is. If you find a video to be abusive to animals, you can report it to youtube.
Yay! Another lovely horsey play time! Could you put Joka in first (or second or third) next time? I always feel bad for her being last. 🥲 Everyone else has less energy by the time she gets in.
