Absolute CAP! The offer was made on 7/5, Kur activated on 7/11, the WBC gave Haney until 7/18 to decide whether he would defend his strap at 135 or move up and fight Regis. Hanet requested a 1 week extension on 7/18 to make his decision and also requested that he be allowed to keep his strap if he chose the Regis fight. On 7/28 Haney announced his decision not defend his strap against the mandatory Shakur and instead take the optional fight with Regis and was stripped as a result.
Best thing about Devin Haney is that he honors, respects, and listens to his father. You can see a lot of Bill in Devin and that gives him an edge against the rest of his peers. Kudos to them both💪

What people dont realize is when you are undisputed or hold multiple belts.. You have to pay a % for each belt you are defending. For undisputed its 4 belts. Haney is paying at least 8-10% of his purse just to defend his belts. So if he asks for 75% he really is actually only getting around 65% which is totally fair considering shakur doesnt have anything to offer devin in return. Its also one of the main reasons a lot of undisputed champs vacate their belts after 1 or 2 defenses. The fees add up.

Shakur went the WBC route mandating the fight and you went up to 140 to fight Regis. After the Regis fight Haney can come back down and face the WBC champ. Shakur vs Haney in 2024.
Haney could barely make weight his last 2 fights. Shakur wanted a weight drained Haney 50/50 and Shakur has nothing to offer. Devin was doing him a favor but he past it up and dev been said he was moving up

The thing is from Haney's perspective you have 2 big fights available. One of them wants 50/50 and the other one is willing to be the B side. It's an easy choice for Haney and Shakur had to know that Haney was going to move on if he didn't get a good split. Especially because Haney made it public that was negotiating with Regis

Actually he wouldnt have gotten 50/50 even if he went the buyout route. When they do those they factor in ppv numbers belts etc. The most shakur probably would have got was 35% cause he has no ppv sales, 1 win at 135 and no belts.
