    Many thanks for sharing this, having seen the towpath which looked good, despite it's narrowness in places, so I will cycle along it in the other direction from Edinburgh.

    I rode along the canal path from Edinburgh to the A89 and along Railway Path South yesterday and it was amazing. The canal was the best I have cycled in the UK, tarmac all the way and wide enough relative to most others I have ridden. I see what you mean about the roots but my Brompton was fine over them if I slowed down a little so only a minor irritation. I was really impressed with the paths from the canal to the hotel, they are a great standard. Thanks for introducing me to Livi!

    Loved your video I have just received my new Brompton C series fire coral love it so much I envy you all your bike paths I live on a tiny island on Canadas Wild West coast fabulous place to live with only a thousand folks I will be using the only road around the island for a while. Happy peddling

    Nice video thank you .. i would be worried about a flat / pinch tyre or damaged spokes going over some of that terrain.. Mind you i have only had my brompton a week 🙂-- It is fantastic bicycle for people who live in flats appartments. or even anyone who wants to travel to the shop or riding on a train / public transport etc

      Thanks - glad you liked it! I love the versatility of the Brompton. It's well engineered and far sturdier than it looks. I run the tyres just a little below maximum pressure (~90 psi front and ~100 psi rear) so pinch flats are unlikely and inspect for embedded glass/stones at least weekly. 16" wheels are very strong, it would take quite a sharp dunt to break a spoke. Rough ground makes makes for a slightly more uncomfortable ride than on a bike with larger wheels but its not unrideable. Enjoy your new Brommie!

      Hi and thanks for your comment. My reason for choosing a Brompton ultimately came down to the fold. It’s the most compact folder out there and the fold completely encloses the oily bits. I wanted a bike I could take in my campervan that wouldn’t have to be kept outside overnight to make way for the bed. There were other factors but that’s what made the decision for me. I’ve enjoyed the bike way more than I expected and used it in more ways than I thought I might. No regrets!

      @@lostinlivi thank you for the concise and yet thorough response. I have yet to take delivery or pay for my Brompton but it should be coming in within a month and I'm trying to convince myself that I should stick with it since it's such a big investment 😄

      Thanks! Mostly they do, but I only use the bell as a warning of my presence rather than as a signal to get out of my way ... a mistake made by too many cyclists on shared-use paths.

    What is that little thing just out of the camera view on the bottom attached to your right handlebar. It Wiggles around and comes into frame occasionally. It's like a cylinder in a holster or something

      I think what you’re seeing is my bottle holder pouch that loops onto the handlebars. I use it to keep odds and ends in and sometimes my action cam with selfie stick attached.

    Nice. Can you mention which gears you normally use on smooth roads, rough roads, uphills downhills

      Thanks for your comment. I like to ride with a cadence around 80 and choose the gear that lets me keep that pace. It's a M6R with 44T chainring so on smooth surfaces and downhill mostly 3-/3+, rougher surfaces 2+/3- and 1+/2- on inclines.

      @@lostinlivi thanks for reply. I recently bought M6L and trying to get used to gears. I am personally filling comfortable with 3rd gear which is -2 on flat road. What is 44T chainring by the way?. Is this somthing customization? Can u please make a video on which gear to use on which terein and why with technical explaination on why perticular gear would work on a perticular terrain? I never rode geared bicycle before and first time riding geared cycle which is brompton M6L Sorry if am asking too much explaination but I need someone to guide if I am using wrong gears and straining myself and also damaging this costly cycle

      Hey Santosh! Your Brompton will likely have come from the factory with a 50-tooth chainring as standard. You can buy a smaller 44-tooth chainring to reduce the gearing by 12% to make pedalling on hills easier (the chain needs to be shortened from 100 links to 98 links too). Ideally you should use the gears so that you can maintain an optimum pedalling rate (cadence = pedal rotations per minute) whether riding on the flat or when going up or down an incline. Different riders are more comfortable at different cadences; for me it's about 80, for most riders its usually somewhere between 70 and 100. Gear ratios are usually quoted as 'gear inches' (number of chainring teeth divided by number of sprocket teeth, multiplied by wheel diameter in inches) which is the distance the bike will travel for one complete rotation of the cranks. On a Brompton with a 50T chainring the gears range from 33.1" (lowest gear, 1-) to 100.7" (highest gear, 3+). With a 44T chainring the range is 29.1" to 88.0". Brompton bikes are really designed for urban commuting on relatively flat, smooth terrain so the gearing isn't the best for off-road or on hills but they are well made, sturdy machines that can get most places.     Another Brompton channel. Good stuff buddy. Keep it coming and thanks for sharing. How did you find the bar end mirror? Any good? I am using the Zefal Dooback 2, but it keeps moving about when the road gets tough.

      Thanks. Glad you liked it. The mirror is a Busch & Muller, 60mm diameter on a short, straight stem and is very stable in all conditions. It doesn't affect the Brompton fold either. B&M also do an 80mm version of the mirror and a range of stem lengths and styles. I tried a longer stem but found it vibrated too much to be useful.

    Thanks for the video, I feel like riding with you when camera is pointing forward. The video is very stable, how do you manage to eliminate shaking and wobbling? Do you have a gimbal in your chest harness? What camera do you use?

      Hi, Pekka. Thanks for your comment. The camera is a Go Pro Hero 8. In this video it's mounted on a chest mount below my shirt and the only stabilisation is what's inbuilt in the camera. The camera I was using on the selfie stick is a DJI Osmo Action, again relying entirely on the camera's inbuilt stabilisation.

    Oh man, those bridge underpasses looked scary. I would think that ringing a bell 3 or 4 times isn’t going to make whoever might be walking or biking under one of those narrow bridge passageways disappear. Even if they actually hear the bell, which is often questionable, if someone is already there, it doesn’t seem like there is much room for them to jump out of the way as you come whizzing into view, bell or no bell. It didn’t even look like there was enough room for a bike and a person to pass each other, even if you had slowed down to look first. Is there really enough room for you to whiz by someone on those underpasses if they hear you coming? I don’t think I’d want to do it. I would slow way down until I have a full view of the pathway and could see that there was no one there. And if there was someone there, I would treat it like a one lane bridge and wait for the other person to cross.

      It's a three hundred year old canal with a towpath built for horses that's been adapted for present day leisure use with an asphalt surface. Under the original bridges there is no room to pass and the vast majority of present day users are prepared to give way. The sound of a bicycle bell echoes though the bridge and can be heard from quite a sufficient distance ahead, but it's only a warning of a cyclist's presence, not a command to give way. Don't let the angle of view of the camera or the closeness of the vegetation either side of the path fool you into thinking the bike is travelling faster than it actually is, and don't assume that the rider can't see further ahead beyond the bridge and anticipate danger based on such observations. Yes there is a risk, and it is not unknown for the unwary or careless to find themselves off the towpath. Ultimately it comes down to being prepared and able to stop within the distance that can be seen to be clear.
