Do you want to get more musician gigs than just on weekends with your band, but you don't want to play solo? Here's my TOP 6 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD PLAY IN A DUO!
The Working Musician is all about the business of playing live gigs, how to start a band or solo act, how to get your band booked, or even how to make a living as a musician while doing what you love!
Agree a lot! in my duo work, I sing and play guitar with a female singer. My voice doesn’t get nearly as strained. It sounds great and she’s much more presentable than I am lol. I also do a duo with another guy who sings and plays a smaller drum kit. Harmonies are great and he’s a different style than me. I have so much more fun with a duo then just on my own.
Thanks, Joe!
Awesome advise. I just added a superb female Vocalist/Keyboardist. Makes my life so much easier. I don't have to sing for 4 hours strait. YEAAAAA
Very cool, Bruce!
Guy-Girl duo's are awesome. I had a guy join me for a few months and then he left. Now I have to sing Whiskey Lullaby by myself. It's fine, Im enjoying being a solo act again.
I was in a guy-girl duo years ago and it was great. Thanks, Jennifer!
Cheers mate, love the vids. Sophie and I have been doing this for a few months in care homes in the UK and having a lot of fun. You've given us a few great ideas for exploring other options.
Happy to help! Thanks, Michael. 😃
Bugsy and I have been talking about this recently. Thank you for putting this up!
You should definitely do it! I played in a duo for several years, and it opens up a lot of gig opportunities. Good luck!
Nice advice. I go back and forth with my girlfriend. Your right she adds a lot to the mix. Played some pretty tight spots but it worked out just fine.
Awesome!
Hey! Good one there, Keep uploading these videos. This helps alot!
Thank you! Have a great week! 😃
Great facts🙌🏻
Thanks! Hopefully helpful. 😃
Harmonies? My wife plays bass guitar with me but does zero singing but we have three part harmonies on demand. All you need is the Digitech Harmony Pedal.
I have used harmony pedals, too. They can be pretty cool, if used tastefully. Thanks, John!
Awesome! just A fan passing Through. #love :3
Thank you, so much! Have a great week! :D
Great video. Now I’ll tell you why not to play in a duo. If you’re married and get a female vocalist your wife’s gonna be jealous especially if the girl is attractive. One of you were going to not agree with the other on song choices and venues to be played oh did I forget someone’s not gonna be able to make practice or G that’s too early of a start or it ends too late. Been there done that.
Been there, done that, too, Russell. Thanks!
Russel, what about when your partner tells you your tempo is too fast or too slow, constantly. That's fun too isnt it? 😆
I don’t know I couldn’t take the financial hit of a duo. It’s not worth it around here financially I don’t think unless you’re doing it for fun or part-time. What are you guys making in duos and where are you? I’m in Jupiter Florida and duos maybe pay 50 bucks more than I make solo.
You're right that it would have to be worth it. Back when $100 was normal for a solo gig, the duo I had would get $300. Thanks, Sean!
Well since I can’t sing a lick that would be a great idea
I bet you could if you tried! 😀 ua-cam.com/video/K-7EW_eqLOQ/v-deo.html
Will the pair of Yamaha DXR10mkII that I just ordered be sufficient for an acoustic duo?
Yes. I'm sure those would work well.
If you're a married man and your wife can't sing, do not follow this guy's advice to get a female duo partner! Also, when you do find a man to join you, make sure he's already married. Seriously, duo work can be very lucrative and an ideal complement to band work.
Good points! Thanks, and have a great weekend!
as for me as a lone male singer, a chick singer I always fall for & wind up alienating the girls in the crowd.
That's always a danger! Thanks, Harold.
But you're cutting out other players, like me the drummer.
Sorry! :)
Learn to play guitar. Do some duo stuff. It'll keep you working.
we have a piano trio with a drummer.. small 18" kit
I know a guy who uses backing tracks and plays drums and sings-folks love him. Has a great personality for the act. Does restaurants and events. Julio Acosta in Rosarito, Baja California.
Duo steup? BOSE L1. Say no more.
They are definitely nice, but maybe a bit pricey for someone new to solo gigs. I'll do a video about this with a few options. Thanks, John!
