Ms. Knight is and always will be one of the classiest people in the business. She's also a great, great singer.
Gladys is a CLASS ACT!
The Empress Of Soul paying her respects to the Queen of Soul, ugh! Love her to pieces ❤️❤️❤️
Of all of the singers of that era (Patti, Dionne, Aretha, etc.) Gladys always seems to be the most relatable and forthright about things. I like her a lot.
I thought I was the only person who observed or noticed that. I believe she is.
Gladys Knight has never been classy, and she is gut-bucket ghetto just like Patti and most of them. Just because Aretha did not receive you the way that you thought she should, does not mean Aretha was being shady. Gladys, you are just not her cup of tea, and Aretha got it right too because you are on this show whining about it. This is something Diana Ross would never do. Yet, Aretha shows love to Diana all the time because Diana is sincere and at the top of her game like Aretha.
Gladys Knight has a great spirit, and looking very good I might add.
Thats y she still sounds good 2 dis day ✊🏾
I love how Gladys always has something good to say about people. Not petty or shady at all. That's a Christian right there.
I can just sit and listen to Gladys all night tell good stories. glaydys knight always speak so eloquent about other singers.. I love her and areatha and dian and dionne
this is what Kelly Rowland might look like when she's older
mr wryht if she’s very lucky
Yes and that’s a good thing!
I can see that.
I don't see it, Kelly is more Donna summer
You mean Vivica Fox 😅
Gladys is such a CLASS ACT😍. It was beautiful that she attended Aretha's funeral and sang. It was also great seeing Minister can Farrakhan there on the stage😍 He looked very comfortable and regal. I loved the performance of SUPERWOMAN with Gladys, Patti LaBelle and Dionne Warwick on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Those 3 tore that song UP, taking it to heights not heard before😍 Tremendous!
Too bad Farrakhan is such a Jew hater.
Aretha was simply insecure, but more importantly, Gladys demonstrated grace by taking the high road, which is a Christian trait.
You never know what transpired with the two to make them at odds with each other.
Aretha rarely complimented other celebrities, particularly the other female icons. She even had a petty issue with Tina Turner being introduced by Beyonce as the Queen. I much preferred Tina's response by saying there are many queens. Aretha was the Queen, but again another insecure or not so good behaviour was demonstrated. RIP to her. She left us with a lasting legacy.
@@nickdillon1096 Again, you never know what the backstory is.
Lol! 🤣
@Fresh Beast #Game Recognize Game What city are you in?
Poor Gladys she got dissed by Diane and Aretha. She Gladys is One beautiful Woman on Earth perfectly aging!
What did they say about her?
When they were young and first toured Europe, Gladys Knight's popularity began to overtake the Supremes while they were in Europe. Diana Ross was jealous and asked the owner of the company, Berry Gordy, to send Gladys and her Pips home. Diana wanted to be supreme. He did, cutting Gladys' portion of the European tour short and denying the fans. Aretha didn't say anything. When Gladys first tried to introduce herself, and a few times after, Aretha flat out ignored her, pretended like Gladys wasn't even there. She did the same thing to Natalie Cole when they first met, too. She hates competion.
Gladys is a GREAT SINGER! I believe that Aretha has a big ego and snubbed her nose when she felt like it and she did. Gladys did not try to compete with Aretha because she had her own signature of song styling. Don't forget their upbringings were very different. I love them both in a different way. Gladys be blessed always.
Her voice is still strong and accurate too. Just saw her in concert
Aretha was so rude to any other rising girls
Aretha was genuine and needed to be protective of herself because the trauma she experienced as a child and a young woman by people who were supposed to love her would have made her very guarded of getting too close to people. She didn’t want to give people the opportunity to do her harm. She had enough to last a lifetime before she was even 20.
Wow you are VERY perceptive!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deborah Florence Thank you.
LMAO! How you no?
Right, she had her first child at 12, and her second at 14. It's not tough to understand why she had a hard shell.
@@siennabash7570 wrong information been given, she had her first child at 14 and second at 15
I love Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Kahn and Stephanie Mills!
I love Gladys ❤
GLADYS ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD AND NEW ARETHA, SHE WAS HURT WHEN SHE PASSED, SHE SONG SO BEAUTIFUL AT HER FUNERAL.
GLADYS looking good.
Gladys is so gracious and respectful. A rare trait among people so famous and talented.
I love Gladys. I met her in Los Angeles in 1999 and I took photos with her!! She was so gracious and approachable. I thought she had the most beautiful smile. I am a true fan!! ...xoxo
Yes I know that anyone could approach Gladys anywhere and she's not gonna act stuck up or rude in anyway. And I know that the same can be said of Dolly Parton and Michael Jackson. Just natural unaffected people who always keep it real
Gladys is ageing really well in that 2018 interview.
This was uploaded in 2018. From the look of this film, I'll say it's 1990
I'm talking about the last clip where she is talking about Aretha in the past tense.
Two Greatest QUEENS!
Not the 2 greatest. There is Miss Patti and others. What they have in common is Talent, Intelligence and Class. Humility goes along with these tremendous qualifiés ❤
The world just don't seem the same without miss ArethaFranklin I love you so much I'm so speechless I wish I was there to pay my respects rest in peace
Ohh Donald enquiring minds wanna know if that's you in that foxy older pic? Do tell.
We must also remember not to make excuses for bad attitudes
I'm not saying they're the same but similar in that there is so much pain their music, Mary J. Blige and Aretha Franklin. You feel their pain. 😔
Mary and Gladys have nothing in common. Mary is projects with no education. Gladys had a good upbringing.
Miss Knight. What a great great Lady. I meet her in Vegas years ago and was a complete doll with her fans. What a true legend and all Class.
I love both of these ladies music, both of there music I'm a fan of them both 2 queens amen
My favourite duet she did was with George Michaels. May they both rest in Peace. George knew how to pick them. He did one with Whitney as well.
Gladys Knight is STILL alive.

Brandon Harris he’s talking about Aretha
“I knew you were waiting for me”

I am Such a big Fan of these African American Divas! They are all so beautiful, Classy, intelligent !
Even if this is only an interview...i cannot do but Listen
Rough business! But Gladys had the chops and the real stuff--no worries!
The Queen of Soul !
There's something that I have noticed about Aretha from watching her interviews over the years and that is she seemed to get along better with men and seemed uneasy and stand-backish with most women.Something happened in her earlier life that made her uncomfortable with women. There seemed to be a very few that she was comfortable with besides her sisters.
Oh yes she loved men honey!
I noticed that too!
Actually, Aretha would even apparently ruthlessly go after her sisters as well on occasionally---especially the lovely Erma. Few women were off limits.
Mayme Clayton Aretha got on with Cissy and Whitney Houston because both knew their place with Miss Re Re
Shine light michele No Aretha Franklin had the upmost respect for Whitney Houston off the rip she watched her grow into a superstar she always had to reset it wasn’t that we knew her place it was that Aretha realize that Whitney was a superstar in her own right and deserve her upmost respect and Whitney always respected Aretha. So stop repeating bullshit because you just saying bullshit you just type in bullshit and you can go and catch interviews with Aretha speaking about Whitney she always said that Whitney was a true talent and unbelievable once in a lifetime selling her exact words on many occasions when ever she was asked about Whitney Houston and Whitney always had nothing but praise for Rere
❤️ Gladys Knight
Beautiful, beautiful woman!!!! Black don't break!!
I am just glad that Gladys found somone like Patti and Dionne. Their sisterhood is something i really adore.
And I was also bowled over by you ms Gladys knight when entered the stage ,
our Matriach of Soul has left the building may she rest in perfect peace my love and condolences to her children, her family and friends and the music fraternity 👑❤️🎤❤️

Thank you for sharing the story with us last night. You have really showed us how you and your soul presented yourself represent who you are with such Grace and manners and how you preciate each other in such wonderful tasteful way today's artists have no clue and how to represent each other support each other and this is why we need you to reflect on your time with each other and teach these artists today how to support each other not against each other it is important when you tell stories about you Aretha Franklin and those who you work with and how you handle yourself in the business and lasted this long and it's amazing why these artists do they cannot learn from the past and Tech with them the knowledge instead they throw it away and want to make quick money and think they are making some kind of stride in their music when they don't have any idea how it really works and it wasn't for you miss Gladys not who we love your music and straw and tell stories and presented in the way you do and handle yourself on stage and professionally and personally with the queen of soul restorator Franklin miss you rest in peace for this we are truly grateful we can learn a lot from you Patti LaBelle Tina Turner and still keep on going strong again thank you all truly icon and legends and no one can ever say anything else

They were all fighting for vocal dominance and stardom. All of them back then, Pattie, Diana, Aretha, Gladys and Dion..but little did they know that a young girl from New Jersey by the name of Whitney was going come along and take stardom and vocal prows to a next levels….
Thank you for this compilation! I love Gladys and appreciate her reflections on the Queen of Soul.
Beautiful interview with Gladys Knight love it.
Always heard Aretha Franklin was somewhat shy. I'm a Big fan of Aretha Franklin and Nancy Wilson so I was happy to hear they were friends. Like it matters what I think...😂 But that makes me happy. Love Gladys too... Detroit Proud

Beautiful Gladys knight I Love this!!!!
In the music business It's called "competition", this is what keeps us apart & separated from each other!!!!
Gladys all the way! Being nice is better than being grumpy and mean!
Gladys Knight is a force to be reckon with also .. pure soul
I love Gladys Knight!
They-really-can-touch-your-heart-with-singing women trio: Aretha, Patti, Gladys!
Sometimes when a person has a spirit of light others are intimidated. I know what Gladys is saying. Aretha was guarded and competitive. She must have seen how amazing Ms Knight is
Oh well May she RIP
Gladys you are a treasure! ❤️
The Black Gay Community will always LOVE THE QUEEN OF SOUL
Gladys is a CLASS ACT.❤️
Gladys knight is so grand and royal for that not competitive, genuine person to me and classic across the boards amen and hallelujah and true
I love Gladys
My favorite female singer of all time....
The Queen and The Empress!
that "thing" that she said Aretha had, is something that a LOT of black folk who were brought up in churches, are aware of. And it is a VERY spiritual thing, that isnt taught...its absorbed. Its like, if you take your dog to a dog park..you do that to SOCIALIZE your pet with other animals, to make it feel at ease about itself and around others. Thats what a black church experience is like. If you go often enough, you will definitely LEARN THINGS...especially as it pertains to having a relationship with the being that created you. And thereafter, everytime you open your mouth to sing, you are connecting to that Higher Power. Thats what Aretha had...she didnt have a voice. She had a gift.
Love Gladys

Aretha was a talented no one can question that. I never heard her compliment another artist not genuinely.
She's complimented many. Even Whitney Houston more than once.

what a lovely woman
Just fabulous.
3:25. Words of Wisdom.
Yas, just like Jesus teaches us!
And this is why I love her so! And this is how a true woman of GOD carries herself.
Aretha just wasn’t feeling her. Some times people just don’t connect
Yeah, and Aretha happened not to connect with Patti, Diana, Tina and so many others of her peers. 🙄
One of a couple reasons why Gladys Knight one of the finest performers within her lifetime. She knows how great she is with no fear of any other singer. If I recall, Aretha berated Gladys in her book, something after her movie (Pipe Dreams - 75'ish) insinuating she understood Gladys' "flopping as an actress". Gladys handles herself like a Christian woman.
Gladys is phony like a lot of Christians. Aretha grew up Christian just like Diana, but they are real and that is why they get along.
Just reciting what Aretha wrote in her book downgrading Ms Knights movie role. Not my call either way. I enjoy all of them, Cissy and Dionne first and foremost.
Gladys is so dignified.
Aretha, immense talent as she was, often came across very guarded, even cold. But I don't think it was ever with any intent to shun people. When you factor in her early life and the abuse she experienced as a girl, plus losing her mother at a young age, it seems only natural that would make a person guarded and not easily trusting of others. It's a common misconception of people who are cool/cold on the outside that they are just mean. Quite often they are just people who experienced a lot of hurt too early in life and are guarding themselves against more of it.
A lot of people know what the sadness was about! She had a baby at 12 years old!
I think, Aretha could play the piano. REALLY PLAY... The other divas were only singers. They were great singers. But it’s that extra ability, that authority over an instrument that gives a person a kind of ownership of music.
Dionne Warwick is an excellent pianist who had just earned a degree in Music Education from a top conservatory ( Hartt) at the time of her first hit record.
I love Ms Knight and her Music..She always has something on the down low on Ms Franklin and Ms Ross..Ms Knight is a Queen on her own level.
Lord y’all stop it! We not gone try to PLAY this LEGEND! Like she said...Aretha literally had no mother & was a young mother herself. Shit she wasn’t too friendly because life had already gotten to her. Not to mention a husband that was literally beating the hell outta her. She was sad 😢
OKAY GLADYS!! YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION. DID ARETHA EVER PLAY THE ROYAL PEACOCK. THANK YOU DIVA!
Aretha has probably eaten a royal peacock. Fried and extra greasy no doubt.
💗💗💗💗💗💗💗😇😇😇😇😇
This woman does not age.
Very classy Gladys!

Gladys all the way for me .
Aretha cut Gladys off for a while because Gladys put in her book that Aretha’s mom abandoned them, which was totally untrue. It was a lie started by Time Magazine that really bothered the Queen!!!
Gladys wrote about Aretha's coldness in the same book you're talking about. Aretha was rude and jealous and nasty towards her BEFORE she wrote the book, because her nasty behavior is written about in that book. She said Aretha would be coming towards her in a hallway (only Aretha and Gladys in the hallway) and she would speak to Aretha and The Queen of Cholesterol would just gallop right past her, looking straight ahead, refusing to speak and trying hard not to acknowledge her in any way .
🤣😂🤣😊🤣😂 That's straight up insecurity and jealousy. It doesn't matter that Aretha had far more hits and was considered the QUEEN of Soul, that wasn't enough for selfish bratty insecure Aretha. She wanted ALL the praise and glory and attention for herself (very much like her friend Diane Ernestine-- they had that particular type of insecure sickness in common) and couldn't stand to see this woman shine. End of story. That's what all that was about. Nothing else.
Nore Neal that is very true.
From Detroit here, and in the late '60s my mother worked in the passport office. She came home one evening and told us she met the nicest people who came in for passports, and her name was Gladys Knight. Her fellas were nice, too. But why do they call themselves The Pips?
The dictionary helped. But each time I heard or saw Gladys, I heard not only extraordinary vocal talent, but a loving personality inside the voice. Detroit overflowed with talent in those times.
Tell the whole truth Gladys and just part of it.... Aretha`s issue with Gladys was the lie Gladys stated in her autobiography saying Aretha`s mother abandoned Aretha and her siblings when they were little children. Gladys had no right to put that in her book .
I mean ... her mother DID abandon them, no matter how Aretha or anyone else tried to spin it. She moved to Buffalo and left them in Detroit. That was her choice; she didn't have to do that, yet I know most mothers would not even consider such a thing. Whether they could or could not support their kids financially, those kids would go with them. Periodt.
That had nothing to do with the way Aretha treated Gladys because the book came out in '97 and the deep freeze treatment of Gladys had been going on since the 1950s. Try again.
Gladys is my Queen of Soul.
Love.you.to.ok.
I get the sense that Ms Gladys tells everything and for a private person as Aretha was, THIS could be a major issue in a friendship.
She tells the truth when asked real friends know not to let something so petty come between them
Well I get the sense that Gladys Knight will only "tell everything" on people who are nasty rotten miserable beeches. And I get another sense that your sensing mechanism needs a serious readjustment.

Gladys is one hundred percent class
Those of us who know that Aretha was introverted understand that she was not being shady. It's just, I'm shy, get out of my face. It's making me uncomfortable.
My favourite female singer of all time miss is gladys knight ?
I wonder if one of the things Aretha didn't like about Gladys is that she has a big mouth. lol Seriously, Gladys is an interviewer dream because she's an open book. Open books about other folks is a gossip queen though. I stay away from people like that too. I don't blame the Queen. Keep those people at distance. Aretha was smart.

Love Gladys but I agree with you totally. I just had to read someone the library about keeping my name out they mouth. Wish I had put that concept into practice decades ago
@@lustforchanel3051 Nah Aretha kept a lot to herself.
@@COMPACTTVHD Maybe she wasn't to the press but to those in their circle. If someone in their 50s likes to talk, it's not hard to believe they were like that in their teens and 20s-40s.

Never heard Aretha put anyone down? I suggest you search for that interview where she's giving her opinions on various singers such as Taylor Twist or Swift or whoever. She's publicly critical of other singers. But I had to agree with her on everyone she made fun of in that interview.

So sad seeing that Gladys Knight got dissed by Diana and Aretha....Sisters should have been sticking together....Sounds like Gladys was the real one!
Why would anyone compare these two people. They are NOT in the same league. But I do like Gladis Knight too. I LOVE THE QUEEN OF SOUL!!!!
I chuckled when I heard Gladys Knight say Aretha Franklin deserves the title "Queen of Soul" because I used to argue with anyone that I thought Gladys deserved the title. Gladys Knight has a power behind her voice like no other I've heard in a long time. On another note, I believe Aretha as good as she was, was extremely intimidated by singers who she saw as a threat to her being the "Queen" I found Aretha to be insecure and petty although I enjoy most of her music.
Hey.
