We got our house as a foreclosure because the basement was flooded and molded and we had to gut it. I’m excited for you guys!
All I could think was “it has a basement. We can have VISITORS!” 😂
Lots of work but All Homesteads are work no matter what stage they are at. Exciting and a time of Hope.
Water is life and have that creek and a Natural spring is a Godsend.
The property is BEAUTIFUL. If you rip the house down save every window door pipe etc that you can. Always good to reuse if you can. At least for green houses. Free windows make hot frames too. You have a LOT of options with that property. Im excited for you. Plant willows all along that creek. They suck up water and weather floods well and help hold the banks in place. Also great fodder for farm animals Rabbits goats etc love willow. Dont leave us hanging for long. Let us go with you :)
...looks like although it has it's issues...the property in (this vid) DEFINITELY has potential...
...and it's so fun to see y'all SO excited , making prospective changes.. improvements...plans....wooHOO...the waffle maker is a success..
🤞for ya hollars'
Congratulations on finding what you love! Praying you guys get it if it's the LORD's perfect will. GOD bless!
After Hurricane Harvey I learned that flood/mold protocol has changed quite a bit. Bleaching is not recommended at all. The newest protocol is to encapsulate the molded studs with a paint on product that kills the mold by depriving it's oxygen. It was pretty interesting to hear about. The property looks beautiful! And a spring! Yay!
That was part of the protocol we saw too, but it started with bleach. Then paint over it with the mold killing paint.
@@TheHollarHomestead After losing my health because of water damage, I would not trust any paint. I would rip out all drywall in the area. If it's growing on the concrete itself then maybe do the washing and the painting over but never for anything porous like drywall or wood. If the mold is so bad it has spread to the rest of the living area, to get the mustiness out you may end up ripping out all the drywall and carpet in the entire house. Sounds like starting over may be a good option. Also if it is built before 1973 you will have lead dangers as well.
No bleach. I know someone who ended up with COPD using bleach on mold. Totally disabled her. Cleaning vinegar. I bless you guys in this new stage of your adventure.
@@inchristalone25 You don't clean or seal drywall, carpet or anything replaceable, remove everything you can.. Especially in a basement where the source of flooding can be sewage backup with the signs of flooding and such in the area.. You cut 18 to 24 inches above or away from the growth and you remove and replace the carpet and pad and seal the floors and studs after they are cleaned properly.. Also do not spray the mold, that causes it to release spores, soak a cloth or scrub brush well and then scrub the area. I would also recommend an air scrubber to go along with the proper respirators if affordable. As well as testing to be sure home is cleared before repairs so nobody is exposed to lingering spores if possible. I believe its actually if built before 1978 that you have to worry about lead remediation, and prior to 1980 for asbestos.
@@maryedmo7798 We always used microban but I dunno if I'd trust vinegar with serious mold issues
Having access to that much water on a property is a huge bonus especially since you are considering raising livestock and having electric, septic and well already established would really put it at the top of my list if I were looking for a homestead property, good luck and I think you will be happy there
Fell some of those trees and put a log cabin there. Fence the property line and free-range goats, pigs and chickens to clear the underbrush. Use a darn strong hot wire on your fence to keep goats in and predators out! The livestock will convert thick woodland to open woodland with grass. Have fun!
I'm so excited for you. Even though it is a bit smaller than the min 10 acres that you were thinking. This happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. They bought a property that was about 10 acres smaller than their minimum ideal property. They bought the property and lived there happily for about 2 years. Then the property right next door came up for sale so they bought that property as well. They now have a little more than 2 times their original minimum property plus they rent out the newly purchased properties house for additional income. Good luck. God works in strange ways.
God Bless Joe
That’s awesome!
I loved your giddy excitement at the beginning!! ALL the chickens!!
Park the trailer on the property, hook up to the services and work on the house.
Lots of good fairly new appliances.
No more laundromat.
The foundation may be salvageable with mold abatement.
Meanwhile, the boys have a great place to wander and explore.
You had me at no more laundromat. 😂
All appliances new because the others were ruined by flood?
How exciting!! When we found our farm it was already under contract and we were devastated! But it fell through and in a few months of praying and bidding and waiting it was ours! Praying for ya'll - may His will be done! 💕
sooo happy for y'all! & congrats on the growth of your channel!!! Y'all are amazing!
Thank you!!! ❤️
Very nice, y'all .... wow, creeks, plus a well and a spring?!! You don't get that in just any property... how amazing is that?! And like you said, the septic and such are already there. Exciting possibilities! :)
Fingers Crossed for you guy's and sending out prayers...But like you say if it doesn't happen its not the one for you ...There is something better out there
Most counties require the septic to be certified when ownership changes, and needs to meet current codes...make sure you know whether it meets the codes, same with well. Springs probably drain towards the house and basement likely has no drain tiles installed, and there is pressure on foundation.
Wow Meg you know what I think you got a sign ,Love the property and all in all I know that y'all could have a wonderful homestead there and I know God is hearing prayers I'm so excited for y'all I see it in y'all face this could be the forever homestead ,Thanks for sharing and I will be praying sweet friends that ya'll can get this place❤🙏
I noticed that not long after getting out of the truck, you both started putting everything in its place (THIS goes here, THAT we'll do this with, etc). Yay! GOD bless you guys. Looks fantastic!
Isn’t it crazy how fast we made it “ours”? We will see if it really is!
@@TheHollarHomestead If it works out smoothly, God is just saying "Welcome home kids!"
Dont forget to get water tested from them old spring boxes and wells. Especially after all that flooding.
That’s is first thing on the list if it’s ours!
@@TheHollarHomestead i know the daunting tasks of home hunting is we looked for our perfect place for almost 3 years before building... even then we still think what if, its always fun though
Very exciting! Lots of good positive signs for that property. We hope that if its meant to be that it will all work out! Love the spring and the creek, lots of potential there.
I love how realistic you both are about the property and the house and the work to be done!
Good luck on getting the property!!
Thank you!! 🤞🏻
Make sure to ask where the septic is, and it is checked... That could be an expensive fix if it isn't functioning properly. I wish you the best!
Such potential!! I love that there is a spring and a creek. How awesome!!! Can't wait to see and hear what's decided 🤗
That is a cool property. One of the things running through my mind was why was there mold in the first place? Was it a flood or just that it was humid and not protected. I am excited to hear about whether you get it or not. If you don’t it’s because God has someplace better in mind for you.
LOVE Ben's coffee mug
So exciting! I bet Hurricane Michael in October did that damage- the flooding, trees down, road, etc. THis past year has been historically bad for the area that was Michael's path through NC and VA. It's very uncommon. I hope you all have peace with whatever the bank decides. Monday is tomorrow! WOO!
That’s what we figured too. We know that have been some crazy storms come through recently. And yes!! We should hear something Tuesday, hopefully. 😬
And Florence too. Got my area.😞
That property looks like it has some real potential! 👍🏻I would figure a new professionally drilled well into my price. That mess those previous owners created will be nothing but problems if my past experience is any use. But definitely looks like some real possibilities on that land.
When I lived in town, I bought the house next to me. It was a foreclosure. I it got for $10,000. You might be surprised what the bank will except.
Super excited for you guys. I just stumbled across your channel and I’m now a subscriber. The energy you have is amazing and you can see the passion you guys have for Homesteading. Thanks for sharing, I can’t wait for the next update. Sending love from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you for coming along with us! Good to have you here.
Iam so excited for you all I hope you y’all get it!!! Loved the driveway looked very private! Best of luck!! As my dad would say good bones😂
Cool waffle maker, I was wondering if we would get to see how it turned out. Good luck on finding your dream property.
Started following ya'll a few weeks age. Love your story, prayers for blessings and happiness in your journey and thank you for sharing. Excited to see what happens next for your family!
I have lived in the desert all my life and I sure love the area where you guys are. Trees! Good luck with the house. It is a neat place for your family. The creek is so neat to have. Will keep you in my prayers. Hugs and blessings too.
That email coming through was a sign. This place has so much potential. I am so excited for you guys!
So exited for you guys. Prayers you get this property. It looks amazing. Will keep praying for you guys.
Praying for ya'll to get the right home..hopefully this is it. A few experience notes..Test your water sources. Locate septic tank and lateral lines (drain field). We have to work around the drain field here on our place. Test your soil for contaminants as well. Anyway 🙏 ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
If its meant for your family you will get it,good luck, looks like a great place.
That's awesome u guys i hope you get it! I totally know the feeling of trying to find that perfect property my wife and I just bought our first house in the country and we looked for months. When it came on the market we were the first to see it and made an offer right away and luckily I ended up getting it! good luck 👍
That’s awesome!!
Your right if it’s meant to be you will get it. If you don’t get it something better will come along
And a new chapter begins 🎉
Had me on the edge of the chair the whole video.
~Mama🐻~
I hope so!! We’ll see what the bank says!
I'm wishing you lots of luck in the hope that your bid is right at the top :) This place has so much potential, and all that standing wood to get all your projects done!
Everyone was quite on the way back dreaming of that wonderful property and it’s potential. Praying if it’s in God’s will y’all will get it. Love seeing the excitement in all of your faces.
This is awesome! I really hope you guys land the place. Fingers crossed!
My first thought was basement and springs ! Wonderful!👏🏻 if it was meant to be , I’ll still be following you guys! So excited!!
I’m so excited with you and for you! The property looks perfect! for a wonderful homestead! I love a tin roof and it looks like the house has tons of potential too! I’m praying with you for favor! Blessings...
Oh my goodness I'm so excited!! Praying praying friends!
When we bought our land in the country, 41 acres, the house was in bad shape. The bank would only lend on land value and 'wouldn't include the house in the property value. So it helped that we had saved plenty of cash. Good luck.
The house is fixable. You have a metal roof. That alone is worth it. Mold and termites can be dealt with. Sounds like you have found a great little place! Congrats. You WILL get this!
Congrats on finding this property!!!
I HOPE YOU GET IT.IT SEEMS TO BE JUST WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.ICANT WAIT FOR YOU TO BEGIN.I ALREADY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Can you find out if there is a history of dynamite being used on the property?
Blasting can cause tiny fissures in the rocks that totally change the course of underground streams.
Then the underground streams swell to the surface during heavy rains. You will never know the streams are there during dry weather.
The County Assessor might have old logging maps with history of blast sights to make logging roads.
They may also have history of the logging company that clear cut the area. The trees are very young looking. They are most likely the unmanaged regrowth of an abandoned clear cut site.
That’s very interesting! We’ll have to look into it.
I've got my fingers crossed for you guys. Hope it all works out and if was meant to be then it's meant to be. ❤
Guys... so exciting! Can't wait to hear the update
I understand here in Tn taking offers on a foreclosure is also common and from my daughters experience its not always the highest bid sometimes cash trumps all! But in any case, if you get this one it was meant to be......happy for the progress we are all watching and waiting to go on this journey finding “The Hollar Homestead”.
Yasy! How exciting! Cony! My prayers are with you folks. You deserve to the best!
So excited! And if it works out yay! If not, sad but you’re right, there will be others. But wow! That stream! The spring! All the chickens you want! And a couple extras!
It’s not just the mold...it’s how did that get there (IE: flood from rain, pipes or natural disasters). Just trying to be a voice of reason...ying to yang thing. Excited for you guys though!😁👍🏼
We are wondering that too! We would definitely do some grading away from the house to to prevent more moisture coming in that way.
@@TheHollarHomestead could There be a spring by the house? We had that issue on our property in Cedar Springs (go figure right?!) Michigan. The original structure was built in the late 1800's and the spring was probably useful for them at that time. The subsequent additions were DYI projects from later owners and may not have accounted for the spring. We bought it as a foreclosure and were young & dumb. If I only knew then (early 20's) what I know now 30+yrs later😉 Research Research Research is my only advice! Praying for y'all!
Kathy
@@kgs2127 So was the Spring caused the mold problem you encountered on your property?
@@spicer41282 Yes because it was encapsulated in a shallow crawl space and no moisture mitigation whatsoever. We always wondered why we couldn't access that particular crawl space. Found the prob during a remodel. The house has since been torn down.
@@kgs2127 Thanks for replying!
So if you could do it again?
Knowing what you know now?
What would have done differently? That is to determine the Mold cause.
Happy for you all. Spray any mold with 50/50 bleach water mix... works great.
So awesome for you guys hope it pans out for you and the fambam
I love your attitudes about it. I will add you in my prayers. The Lord will plant you where you should be. Keeps the smiles on and just love each other and all will workout.
I really hope the best for your family, truly, I mean it, no matter the out come, it is for the best!
Favor and restoration, always!
Thank you for the wonderful videos. Every since I saw you on one of the Roots and Refuge videos, I went back through your videos and found myself sharing in the magic of your journey. I wish to thank you for sharing this journey with your viewers and hope that you do indeed find a home in which excites you with endless lifetime experiences.
A few years back I purchased a home myself in Virginia in which was subject to the same kind of mold situation you discussed in this last video. At first, with regards to my own experience, I was quite concerned about it having myself come to the East Coast from the deserts of southern California wherein mold is not often a concern. At first, I even thought myself to be in over my head.
Yet, through my own life experiences, I discovered how to deal with this problem quite nicely. After some research, I learned of a product called “Moldstat Plus”. This is a product that is used in many hospitals and schools to treat for mold. Not only killing the vegetative portion of mold but also killing the rhizoid’s and stolen’s as well. Having applied this product throughout my new home utilizing a low cost atomizer, my mold problems had been brought under control in short order. Indeed, a wonderful product.
The thing about a home in the woods of the east is that if left unoccupied for very long, the land around it will quickly reclaim it for its own.
Good luck with regards to your purchase of this home or another if the fates decided it should be so and once again, thank you in sharing your journey with others.
Very cool. Dont let the mold scare you. Stop the moisture issue, stop the mold. It could just be that it has sat empty for so long that there has been no air movement, etc so you've got surface mold. Hope yall get it!
I think that’s true, and we noticed some areas where water might be getting in. So it would just take some drainage and ground work to divert it.
I'm so glad you listened and got all the amenities on the property, make sure you get a foundation inspection
This is great news! Talk to the neighbors they'll tell you about the area. Love it! Congratulations!
I am soooooo excited for you!!! I could feel the excitement while watching the video!!! Thank you so much for the update and sharing for taking us with you on your house hunting experience. Please keep doing that. I was waiting on a video update but understand that you guys took a few days off. That property has a lot of potential. I was so excited to see and feel the potential from your vision. You can make it everything you want it to be and more!
I want to share with you a few things. Last May 2018, I had mold growing in my HVAC closet in my apartment. It was gross and worrisome. I looked into the issue by doing research and found that "BLEACH" DOES NOT KILL MOLD/MILDEW because I found out that mold grows roots and those can only be killed by hiring a professional company to remove the mold. You would imagine that bleach would destroy it because it changes color to white but apparently that is not the case because of the roots. There is also 10,000 types of mold. Please, please research it! I am thinking it would be better if you guys, if you can afford it and since the plans are for a forever home, to tear it down and build from the ground up! This is just my advice and what I would do...I would look into the weather pattern in that specific. I would look into why the home has too much water damage. What is the cause of it? Could it be from flooding and where? Does the creek rise in stormy weather?
Also find out the living time frame of the last two owners? I know that on Zillow you could find out when it last sold. Also, I would want to know if that area that gets hit by tornados and when was the last time that it was hit if ever? I live in California and here I know that you can find out if someone passed away in the home for the last three years. Now, I know that they will only tell you here if you ask! If you don't ask, they won't tell you. I don't know if they will do that in North Carolina. Also while you wait to hear back from the bank, you might want to meet the nearing neighbors and ask around about the property if you are allowed.Use that waiting time to do intense research. I would, if they are friendly, about the history of that home. Obviously, that you are interested in purchasing the home and would like to learn more about it. I am not trying to scare you. You have children so I would want to make sure I check everything out even Megan's law. I don't know if that is national.
Keep envisioning your dream home to the 'T" and you will find your perfect home!
Gotta love that natural water source...nice spot !!
If y'all like it and it's meant to be, I hope you get it! I wasn't there but I love it, especially the spring and the creek! Wishing the right outcome for you!
I'm so excited for you guys.
Love it. Hope you guys get it.
While you are waiting research bad weather/flooding for that area going back ten years. There had been several bad floods in the past several years. My friend was flooded out three separate years.
Ahhhh the waiting and wondering and trying to balance the brain to put the planning and dreaming on hold until you know. I totally understand. I loved it, I could see you there. I'm sure you know 90% of the mold was due to bad design in drainage around the house/location... down hill... yikes! Good thing is it's easy to fix most the time with a small ditch digger. I'll be praying if it's meant to be... smiles and blessings...
Your maturity is showing. If it happens... Time is your best friend in a buy. Good luck in finding the right property.
I love my home and will probably be here until I die but there is something so fun about living vicariously through you. That house although needing to be gutted down to the studs feels like it has a really good 'vibe'. All those windows and the way it's placed on the land is really beautiful. I know with all of your energy and positivity you are going to make where ever you end up lovely. Fun to watch the journey
OOOHHH HOW EXCITING. i think its beautiful. creek, well, trees, house (ya mould isnt the worst thing, termites hopped up on coffee, that might be worse) all great things. what fun! maybe no one will want to tackle the mould!
Spun out termites. 😂😂
Looks like a good property. Our house was a short sale. Which is one step above a foreclosure. I will say this. If you are really feeling it, dont be afraid to asking or above price. We were one of five parties for our house. But it took a long time with the courts. Over three months. By then, the others dropped out. But we bid asking price. Good luck.
Hope it all works out. We are all rooting for y’all - God is good.
Pray you all get it.
Very excited for you kids, you might want to talk to the nearest neighbors to find out the history of the house. GOOD LUCK.
So glad this video popped up in my feed. Loved touring the property with you. I love the anticipation of building a dream, as I see you do, too. I hope this works out for you. I have a 5 acre property for sale in Eastern Oklahoma that I hope someone with a dream finds soon. I did a video tour of the small acreage. Mentioning it here, because you never know who might be watching and searching for their perfect property for a new life, too.
Such a great, unexpectedly happy, and joyous adventure! The land is perfect! My dream land!!
Multiple sources of water on the property is a huge plus. The house looks like a ton of work, but if the mold could be tackled it would be awesome! I love NC, and would move there in a heartbeat.
That road could be fixed with a little larger culvert and a headwall on each side! Moonshine spring! You could use a Ram pump! From the creek to a storage tank up by the house! It has some good possibilities. You could get a look at the house, and plan in your heads what needs to be done first. MONEY is always an issue! DON'T go crazy or you'll be like the last person.
WOW, Exciting !! If you get it, a lot of good hardy work ahead. Love the property . Hope you see the house soon. I would want to see it.
Oh you guys are holding your cool better than I could. But you're right, it will happen if it is meant to be! I just said a prayer for you and will keep you in my prayers 🙏🤞❤I am so anxious for you. I can't wait to see ya'll working on your homestead and see the progress as you go. God bless!
We are pretty anxious! 😬 haha! But it is not up to us, so we’re trying to be chill about it.
@@TheHollarHomestead I completely understand. God Is good and will make sure you get what is right for your family.
Oh so excited for you! I really hope you get it because it looks fab. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Great that is has a well and a spring x
Thank you Liz!!
Watching you walk the lines with Google maps brought back fun memories. When we were looking we did the same and a federal agent met us at our car. We thought, "Wow, Alaskans take security seriously." When we moved in we discovered the neighbor is a former governor ...and there was concern with our group tromping aroud behind his home. LOL congrats...eagerly waiting with you and praying for the right spot for your family.
Oh my goodness!! I bet that was scary!
Yay!! Everything is working out perfectly. Looks like great land!!!
A creek, well and a spring, nice!! Sounds like a good property! Another concern in the house could be asbestos, something to look into as well. Hope this works out for you, like I said the property is very nice and you seem very excited about it!! If it is meant to be , it will be yours. Thank you again for bringing us along with you, God bless :)
That popping up .. maybe a sign? Cute place.. Hoping you can get it! That's a darling house.. Needs a lot of TLC.. even if you just use it as a shed/ animal shelter / greenhouse...
If they are not using the well or spring, there is usually a reason. 🍀🍀🍀
I hope it works out for y’all! Very exciting and will pray that y’all get your homestead soon.
Awesome. .you probably already checked this but if internet is important to you make sure you have good service. We only have one sometimes two bars and no Wi-Fi. Wish you the best.😊
You two are too cute! Best of blessings to you!
May the Good Lord Bless your dreams and may he give you the home to call our own, for it is a wise man that builds his house upon a rock and it seems that you are a rock solid family looking for your little piece of dirt to toil away on. My hope is you have found it and it brings you the joy in life you seek.
It’s so exciting!! I love that you know if this doesn’t work out there is something else out there for you!
Looking forward to watching how God works it all out.🤗
