    Ghanafo!!! 🇬🇭 Also I realized that as someone with fine-medium strands, that extensions etc just aren’t for me because the buildup is too much when I take it out and I always lose a lot of hair. Now I’m just focused on doing twists/mini twists with my own hair because I also get to put in the moisture on a more regular basis and it’s lighter on my head since I’m located in Cali now. Plus it’s less work to put in and take out since I do my own hair.

      I totally understand that, twists are def. easier maintenance that added hair styles

    I think that I have a different story to tell. I leave my protective style for 4 or 5 weeks before washing it and this is because I live in a very cold place. The good thing is that I do Water Only Method. That means I don't wash my hair with shampoo just warm water. So the sebum my scalp produces moisturise my hair naturally and this is the reason why after protective styling, I don't do any other thing to my hair until I washed it, apply fenugreek leave in, oil my scalp with sesame oil and go for another 4 or 5 weeks before taking it down. On the whole, I always leave my protective style for maximum of 10 weeks. My hair comes out amazingly great. I don't use shampoo, butter or cream. Just sesame oil, almond oil fenugreek. That is all. My sebum is taking care of every other thing. Thank God for this wonderful gift of nature

      That's very fascinating, I've heard great things about all of those but I've never tried this water only method. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for sharing!

    I had a really pretty, really bomb protective style sometime in 2019. Unfortunately, it took my edges. To this day, I still have significantly shorter edges than the rest of my hair. I swore that I would never again do any style that looks bomb short term and brings damage long term.

I was actually planning to revamp it(which is basically take it down then rebraid to cover the growth) and I will do very soon. I hope you come back here and shed some light. Will definitely check you out on Instagram. Thank you for also saying the truth about protective styling. They are both good and bad depending on how you put em in and how you take em out. I loved this video so much! I relate to so many things you said and I also learned so much from you. I have a genuine question. I also wish I could wear my hair out every day of the year but I know it's not the best way to grow my hair due to quicker tangling and getting dryer so much quicker. My hair retains moisutre 100x better when I twist it and leave it alone. My quesiton is: does our natural hair in its most natural state do this so it remains short and off our shoulders since we are originally from a hot climate place? Idk if there is like biology or a specific purpose to the way our natural hair is and behaves before manipulation. I hope my quesiton makes sense.

    • @preciousfro
      @preciousfro  Рік тому

      It's an interesting question and I definitely can't say that I know the answer but I've heard some people say it was designed that way to protect our scalp from the very hot sun in those climates, but who can know for sure?

    “Protective styling” with crochet braids destroyed my edges. I’ve been trying to regrow them since 2017. Sometimes they look halfway decent then they break because the hairs in that area has just become fragile. When I look back at pictures of my thick full edges before I discovered “protective styling”, I despair. I’m still trying my best to baby my edges to see if I can get them back to even a quarter of their former thickness.

    • @preciousfro
      @preciousfro  Рік тому

    When do you wash your hair and what is your routine?

    • @preciousfro
      @preciousfro  2 роки тому +3

      I wash my hair at most 2x per month, sometimes once a month. When I have my hair in a protective style I focus on just washing my scalp. When I'm washing my actual natural hair, I wash it only in around 8 braids, so that will happen at most one per 3 months since my hair is typically in a protective style for 6 months. Hope that helps.
