The dinosaur looking thing is actually called a Charger, it was originally supposed to be in Half-Life 2, but I think it never got past the concept art stage, then it was added to Opposing Force 2 as an enemy. OF2's devs made a fully animated model of it, made proper AI for it and even recorded some sounds, all of which you can see in this mod. Ok, the argument of "it ruins Valve's vision for the game" has two flaws in of itself, the first being the obvious that this is a mod, the second being that HL2 to Valve is A FINISHED PRODUCT, its done, no more development is being made for it, that argument is better reserved for games that are in Early Access where changes are going to be expected, NOT for games that are FINISHED, at that point modding that game becomes the only way to keep that game refreshing. This mod reminds of the mod called Half Life 2 Subsistence which did a pretty similar thing. Also the modding community has been trying to recreate the Half Life 2 beta for ages.
I kinda wish they had new CP or combine forces as well because i would love to see other aliens converted to organic tech like synth soldiers and vorts or just more vehicles
Yeah, I did kinda wish that they had new enemies/aliens in half-life episodes. I felt like while playing episode two ‘the only thing that ever goes wrong in this world is either combine soldiers zombies and antlions’ and then I got to the hunters and I loved the absolute hell out of them. They should’ve just added more unique and interesting stuff to expand the world like the hunters.

What I'm noticing is that in Black Mesa Source, many changes were made out of love to improve the game, but here it seems to make changes just because. Feels like many things need to be ironed out.
I totally disagree. The modis fun but not rounded at all, a lot of stuff has no reason being there and nothing they do can change that. It's a fun mod but not definitive by any shot
Despite a few rough edges, I enjoyed my time with Overcharged. I used the Weapon Limit option to have myself only hold 28 weapons (enough room for the default HL2 weapons and enough room for plenty of guns and nades). Having this limit made me choose my loadout, consider the stats of the weapons from there abilities (I.E I hold a OICW for its Night Vision Scope and Nade Launcher). Another cool aspect was how different guns would show up exclusively in the Episodes, keeping the sandbox engaging. Like that AK47 you got in Anticitizen One, I didn't get that until Episode 2. Potential Replay Value right there.
This mod is a reminder of what modding should be. Sharing visions of how you can enjoy games. I am a modder myself (I make mods and tools for Need for Speed Black Box era games), and it just baffles me sometimes how outright awful attitude of some people towards some mods is. It's a free mod, don't like it, don't install it. Yeah the quality is hit or miss but it's not like it's terrible or unplayable, definitely an enjoyable experience. I think people just got spoiled with mods such as MMod and Black Mesa, set the bar for mods too high, like it's mandatory for mod devs to release something that would beat AAA games quality wise (even though it's easy as it seems like AAA games nowadays don't need to be functional), that they just can't appreciate someone's work that they think is inferior to something else.
This mod is overhyped imo. Remove half the weapons, especially the identical ones, fix the quality, actually extend the maps as they promised and then this may look like a good Smod successor.
To be fair. Majority of people (including myself) enjoy this mod for what is. Few people does have issue but the mod got so many settings. You literally can make it fit your style. Or just play MMOD .
@@CoolSs That feel when MMod dosen't fit anymore because its just vannila hl2 gameplay. I think the purist problem stems from the lack of Half-Life 3. Since Valve hasn't put out a Half-Life anything since Episode 2 (with the exception of Half-Life: Alyx which is VR exclusive), fans have been starving to have something polished and of high quality from Valve. Since Valve hasn't done it, fans take it upon themselves to fill up the void with mods. The problem though is that it creates the idea that every mod has to be perfect and as close to official as possible. None of these mods are coming from Valve and they're not all meant to be taken 100% seriously. I do love Mmod because it feels like as if Half-Life 2 came out a little bit later and there are options to turn stuff on or off. I personally don't like hitmarkers, I find them to be annoying so I turn it off in Mmod and forget about it. I also love how I can take the tau cannon off the dune buggy. Sometimes I want to screw around with a mod that's silly, Smod lets you kill enemies by throwing rice from a box at them or shooting Playstaion Vita games. If you're not interested then don't play it. I haven't played Overcharged yet but I've been looking forward to it. I remember seeing trailers when it was still in development and I find the returning enemies to be the most exciting. Base HL2 with HL1 and HL2 Beta enemies I think is something many fans have wanted to explore for a really long time and now we get to do that in Overcharged with a bunch of new weapons too. My only beef about mods usually (not always) is when people play a game for the first time with a mod instead of playing it stock. Like if someone played Brutal Doom before playing regular Doom. You're not going to have that much of a genuine appreciation for the base game or for whichever mod you're playing if you've never had the original experience. So you can't really say "I've played Half-Life 2 and I thought it was....(whatever opinion)." because you didn't play Half-Life 2, you played Half-Life 2 plus something else. It will muddy your perception of both. I think the only game I wouldn't really care that much if someone played with mods on a first time playthrough would be Doom 3. HL2 Mmod while I wouldn't recommend it for a first playthrough I wouldn't flip my lid either since Mmod is pretty tame to Half-Life 2.
Its an overstuffed mess. Which is exactly what was advertised, and what I expected and wanted. Its nice to fuck around all SMOD style since installing SMOD and all its various branches or successors is kind of a hassle.
This mod is not my favorite tbh, I have two reasons, one is enemy placement. It kinda sucks especially when they put the assassins in that house at the gate in water hazard. Two is that it doesn't feel different to HL2 at times, what I mean is that the weapons I have most of the time is just the same with extra that don't do a lot of different stuff like a new pistol or a smg that does nothing new to the table, sure you may say I have to really find the new weapons but just do what SMOD did, like put it in more obvious places. But I don't hate it, nor do I like it, I like the new stuff tho.
Seriously where is this patch, everyone is mentioning it but I don't see it, I have been crashing at the start of entanglement and can't progress unless I want to lose several weapons
Speaking of MMOD, one mod that I'm looking forward to coming out is MMOD Tactical. It's doing a lot of stuff like adding new weapons and enemy types to the game. Looks pretty neat. Hopefully it gets finished. I'm also looking forward to the Resident Evil: Cold Blood Rebirth mod as well.
I too am looking forward to MMOD TACTICAL. Looks like the mod developers really care about whatt theyre doing. I just hope it doesnt require counter strike source like SMOD Tactical
Finally I was hoping for this full opportunity for your review on Half-life 2 Overcharge. Little bit of note about the the alien Dinosaur that enemy over there is called the Charger a cut enemy which was used in the cancelled mod Half-life 2 Opposing Force 2
All the stuff is just randomly thrown into the game without any logic. At first I was like wtf, how come houndeyes are working with the Combine. But after I got it out of the way I started enjoying this mod. It's more of a Serious Sam Source game now
I like how they brought back many old enemies, including the ones from Opposing Force and even some of the cut Beta enemies and they expanded upon the maps. But I don't like how you get a ridiculous amount of guns while some make sense given the region of Eastern Europe, the others are kinda....weird. Although the addition of the Xen Grunts and Controllers doesn't make sense, and forgive me for saying this but the addition of Race X Shock Troopers from Opposing Force also doesn't make sense considering most of the Race X retreated after the Gene Worm was defeated by Shepherd but the Pit Drones kinda make sense if you think about it. And most of the settings in this is optional, so that's good.
Now that Halos 1-3 have gotten modding tools, and the ability to make new levels do you think that you’ll make some reviews of those? It would be interesting to see your thoughts on the different overhaul, and custom campaigns. Recently this one girl released a mod called CEA Multiplayer for Halo 3 that ports the assets (weapons, props, vehicles, maps) from CE, and puts them in Halo 3’s engine. There’s also a cool mod for CE called Combat Revolved that fixes some of the balancing issues, and add new content that ties it in with the newer games.
I watched my friend play a lot of this. On normal he had to reload a lot and even cheat occasionally due to bull**** sections, but he enjoyed it all the way through. He had a horrid bug or two, but it seemed to be because he didn't start a fresh game when going from HL2 to Ep1, once he tried that it fixed them and he was so happy he could continue. Overall, such a cool unique mod. The issues are big, but that's part of the charm, it's all just a cluster**** of awesome.
I think the problem with the criticism of the mod "ruining Valve's vision" or whatever is that if that's your problem with the mod, you shouldn't be judging the mod. I like mods, but I know what type of mods I like. When I saw the trailer for this mod I thought "it looks fun, but I don't think it's for me" and it's not so much that it ruins "Valve's vision" but more how I didn't like the inconsistent look of some new elements in the mod, it just takes me out of the game. However, I know that's my preference and because of that, I just didn't install the mod, that's it. I don't get why would people go out of their way to install a mod that's clearly advertised as something adding content, it has detailed description of what's doing, it has videos and images of what's doing and then complain about what they did. I'm 100% with Jarek on this, if you like the original Half-Life 2 experience, then go back to play Half-Life 2 again, don't go to the mod that's clearly trying to do something new and complain about the mod doing what the mod intended to do, it just doesn't make sense and it doesn't make you look good or smart, it just makes you look petty. If someone came up and asked these people "hey, have you played Half-Life 2 Overcharged" and they shared their reasons why they don't like it, that would be fair, but going out of your way to try something you know you're not going to like and then complain about it it's completely different. Anyway, cool video. I always try to keep an open mind about things I don't know enough about and see if I find something that makes me change my mind.
Exactly there's no reason to lose your mind over a free mod that you can very much choose to ignore. Vanilla HL2 will still always exist, why act like this is the devil rising?
My favorite part is the bullet penetration. Few HL2 mods except for smod and Triage add bullet penetration to my knowledge. I love wall banging enemies!
Saying that the Half life community has a purist problem is a huge understatement. A friend of mine got 2 ddos threats last year for posting a image of him playing half life 2 with mmod running cinematic mod maps. not to mention the VR purists half life alyx brought to the community a few years ago. Some of the people who are working on Non-vr mods for the game are sent death threats over their mods because they take away the vr aspect of the game and the overall purist thing is getting worse and worse each year. it almost seems like modding as a whole is starting to be looked down on by some parts of the community and that's something id never thought Id ever see with half life.
Could you make a personal list/video of shooters you personally think everyone should play regardless of age? Not necessarily a best shooters list. Just something you think people who wanna dive into good games should experience
Man, the quality and weaponary reminds me of Firefight:Reloaded. I fkin miss this game, I love the firefight insanity with all the cast of enemies from Half Life
I have to admit I almost snubbed this mod purely based on the low ModDB score but after watching this video and understanding the flawed reasons why people are review-bombing it I think I'll give it a try. I loved SMOD back in the day! Hello Kitty wand and PSP launcher ftw...
Some weapon sounds like the AK-47 may need some improvements on firing to make it relevant to the actual firearm sounds with a bit of satisfying beefy touch to make combat scenarios more thrilling to engage.
I think the enemies would be better if the hydra was only in street wars, the assassins were only in nova prospekt, houndeyes were smaller and spawned in groups, bullsquids acid decals matched the spit, gonomes were smaller and less tanky, mortar synths were only on the coast, and race x, combine guards, controllers, and grunts were cut. Also enemy infighting and clearer territorial lines
I did not had this much fun in mod since MMOD. I can't wait until we get MMOD Tactical. Or half life 21st century humor edition. Or tactical thot exterminators.
A game that i would love to see jarek play and review is golden light. Basically an fps horror game that has the insanity of cruelty squad and....... MEAT?
Awesome video. Its a shame that you didn't showcase the Combine units like the Combine Guard, Combine Assassin, Combine Super Soldier, and the other unique combine enemies with the guns they use.
The only reason I'm not so hot on this mod mostly stems from me quite disliking SMod and thought it was kind of a mess gameplay wise and was very unfun for me. Apart from the overabundance of weapons that the game really doesn't need and some enemies looking very early, this does seem to be a bit more enjoyable at least. As for the purists who moan and groan at people for making mods that change things, yeah those people are pretty dumb. Plus isn't changing the game the whole point of modding? Some people are silly, reminds of those weirdos who say you should only play Doom in DOS with keyboard only.
So many people are hating on this mod, I was too. But after playing it a bit I started having a positive outlook and i actually love it. It’s so customizable which is amazing. I love this mod and also your review
honestly to me as long as it's fun and someone will atleast make it not crash, it's a good mod to me. Same goes for those minecraft modpacks i've played with like 300-500 modds. as long as the game works ill try to have fun in it.
13:56 This attitude is why I've always avoided the franchise and fandom. The *only* time I've ever gotten actual death threats on the internet wasn't connected to politics, or religion, or anything but people upset that I don't worship at the Temple of Newell and think this is the bestest game ever of all time. It's just so...offputting. It's nice to see that not everyone is a psychopath when this game comes up.
You don't have to interact with the fandom to play a single player game. It'd be a bit silly to miss out on one of the best fps games of all time because of some loud idiots.
1 thing that is objectively not good: This mod is made to be customizable, but all the settings start off. It's kinda lame to have to turn them all on, and find the right ones, since some conflict with others in the case of graphical settings, so there should be default settings it starts you out with. Otherwise, I now agree. It's a m o d, not a game. It doesn't have to be "good", it just has to be fun. And it is.
Quality seems to be all over the place but seeing those cut content like places, enemies and guns in the game is really awesome, I think a mixture of MMOD and cut content that integrated well into the game would be a dream come true.
HL2 community is full of gatekeeping puritans, I remember back when the cinematic mod was released... I heard that some people even threatened the guy who made the mod because they didn't like it...
Surprisingly the author of cinematic mod is still updating it but now as part of a hobby because people kept complaining about stuff that was and I quote "optional"
Overcharged lives up to it's name, throwing in a million things for you to play with, its not supposed to be lore friendly or complimentary to base game stuff, thats not the point, it's a new, somewhat chaotic way to experience Half-Life 2 all over again
this game is like the opposite of mmod, this has alot of new content but with very meh quality control and noticeable issues, while mmod has less overall changes but the changes are big and pretty well polished. not a bad mod, i love the og smod alot and i think this does a well enough job as a spiritual successor not related but someone should make a mod that uses multiple different languages for citizens like mark leidlaws idea
I’m really sad I didn’t get to finish this mod, it looks really fun but I couldn’t even get past anticitizen one with out a repeating crash I didn’t know how to fix…
Does the game change the bullets in the game to projectiles or is it still hitscan? Also in slow mo, can you actually dodge the bullets like in Smod back in the day or does it just slow the game down only?
Mod doesn’t look bad, purism over optional and unofficial content is indeed dumb. So you’re a fan of what was left on the cutting room floor too. Have you played the leaked HL2 proto build that’s been around forever? It has the E3 map you pointed out and more. Sucks I can’t recommend a proto HL2 mod because every one of them takes liberties, the most accurate that’s also trying to be a playable game is Dark Interval. Missing Information is like the sole mod that’s faithful, unfortunately it’s not trying to be a full game. Raising the Bar Redux is pretty unfaithful but you can’t deny it has talent behind it. One of their early releases had its level design criticized, IDK if they’ve taken care of that. If you cover it please don’t call it a “beta” mod, a better label would be beta inspired. Lastly Opposing Force and Blue Shift are getting remade by fans, I bet you’re be glad to hear that.
@@wickdaline8668 Yes the creator of HL2: Update was able to publish their mod onto the steam store. But per valves policy on mods, it's not able to be sold. HL2 Update is a free mod for owners of the base Half-Life 2. Also i doubt we'd see Overcharged be listed on the store. It's possible, IIRC they are voting for it at the current moment. But everything operates in valve time. So your best chance is to just download overcharge off ModDB.
It's a very stupid fun mod that's all that matters. But I'm upset with how many bugs there are. Way too many crashes and things that just impede progression through the game. Anytime I have to use noclip or God to get on in the game isn't great so it's like a 6/10 for me
The slander part Like Payday2, Modding for Payday2 deems as a Cheat or some sort getting slander by those cringe virgins unwilling to mod it nor do they understand why people mod it in the first place
5:15 Exactly!!!!!!!!! i think the same way about this, and i even say that for me half-life 2 is boring, and just the same the whole game, but with this mod, i feel like this mod is exactly what half-life is needs to be. I agree with you in 13:47 but about new vegas the frontier mod, mod is a mod, some thing could be good, some could be bad, but its new, its experiment from the people that love to express their vision of the game, and that's what modding is about

Modders are never gonna let HL2 become old! And thats just awesome!
This mod was a blast. Although a bit unfair at points, I can't deny how much fun I had.
Since the release of the first patch, it's a blast to play it. The amount of customization you can do in this mod baffles me, it's incredible.
Seriously where is this patch, everyone is mentioning it but I don't see it, I have been crashing at the start of entanglement and can't progress unless I want to lose several weapons
@@RPbirdzz it’s patch 1 in the moddb page
Fun fact: bullsquids and houndeyes were actually planned for half life 2 but got cut
Omg the timesplitters music in the background! I love it.
7:09
The best thing I can compare the dinosaur thing to is the charger from half life alpha (of course a cut enemy)
That's what it is.
@@NipplWizard yea that’s mostly why I play overcharged over smod/smod tactical cause I dont have CS Source lol
The weapons and enemies don't need to make sense and that really doesn't matter. Mod is just for fun.
The cool small detail in this mod. That the dual USP match has a unique reload animation if you empty your magazine and reload.
That clip of Jarek kicking the headcrab in the begining of the video is just "Damn, boy!"
@@TheT3rr0rMask exactly, it's not like Valve announced it and sold it like a remastered version of the base game and retconned anything...
10:43 that's vortex grenade from 40k? the emperor would be pleased!
My favorite part is the bullet penetration. Few HL2 mods except for smod and Triage add bullet penetration to my knowledge. I love wall banging enemies!
this mod is AMAZING bro i love it, you can even unmount the tau cannon and airboat gun to take with you
Saying that the Half life community has a purist problem is a huge understatement.
I hope this mod continues to get worked on
Its time splitters future perfect main menu theme at the beginning! which is funny because i played this game with my bros today!!
Conclusion: its smod but it doesn't crash every nanosecond
also secret service review when
The dinosaur looking thing with the red head is a charger from hl1 concepts
The 3d model from hl1 alpha was wastly different.
God I haven't played SMOD in a hot minute
i just hate the hydra, it's in the most annoying places, and for some reason it can hit you though walls.
everything else is cool though.
A game that i would love to see jarek play and review is golden light. Basically an fps horror game that has the insanity of cruelty squad and....... MEAT?
Been waitin to see you review this new you would
Might I suggest
Raising the bar redux
Sometimes I dream about cheese....and this mod is fine swiss
I may be wrong but that original(?) Dinosaur Enemy is making Walking With Dinosaur Tapejara sounds???
Awesome video. Its a shame that you didn't showcase the Combine units like the Combine Guard, Combine Assassin, Combine Super Soldier, and the other unique combine enemies with the guns they use.
I was looking at some random footage for the first time and the alien grunt really gave me a bad impression ngl lol
This is just SMOD from 2006
13:56 This attitude is why I've always avoided the franchise and fandom.
The Pokémon fandom has a bunch of creepy dumbasses that just want the next lewdable playable character, but you don’t have to talk with them ever.
And it is.
The dinosaur looking thing is actually a Pit Drone from OpFor!
It, no what? Pit drones throw spikes. The dinosaur thing is definitely not a pit drone.
It's charger from a cut hl1 enemies
The level action is actually an Annabelle (father grigori's gun)
Which is why its textures are not very good.
the moment i heard the timesplitters music, i knew i had to subscribe!
@@hideakiakio6698 wasn't it originally not optional? You only got access to reverting posters and models after people complained?
I like the concept but it is pretty badly designed. Not much thought was put into enemy types and placement.
Overcharged lives up to it's name, throwing in a million things for you to play with, its not supposed to be lore friendly or complimentary to base game stuff, thats not the point, it's a new, somewhat chaotic way to experience Half-Life 2 all over again
never realized how much you look like ian mocollum without a hat
ok, i love you wallpaper and i want it, also, i fucking love this video
I was waiting for this review!
this game is like the opposite of mmod, this has alot of new content but with very meh quality control and noticeable issues, while mmod has less overall changes but the changes are big and pretty well polished.
not a bad mod, i love the og smod alot and i think this does a well enough job as a spiritual successor
not related but someone should make a mod that uses multiple different languages for citizens like mark leidlaws idea
Great videos like always :)
What's the song playing during the sponsor tho?
Damn, it looks like the ante for vfx shaders were upped a bit for this mod
I’m really sad I didn’t get to finish this mod, it looks really fun but I couldn’t even get past anticitizen one with out a repeating crash I didn’t know how to fix…
I'm with u new content is king
10:08 what's the music in the background?
Half-Life 1 will turn 25 next year.
Feel old yet?
Yes
Oh hey it's the rivals of aether guy
that halo doom t shirt is heracy
In the best way
Does the game change the bullets in the game to projectiles or is it still hitscan? Also in slow mo, can you actually dodge the bullets like in Smod back in the day or does it just slow the game down only?
the winged houndeye was in another game the overcharged guy made
arctic adventutes
its just hl3
all im gonna say
I like this mod. It's good, stupid fun.
I love this mod personally
All these mods can be bought and downloaded from the store, right? In case I don't find them there.
....bruh they're mods. No you can't buy mods lol. Check the video information.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon Didn't they have HL2 update years ago on the store that upgrades the graphics? Is that not a mod?
It is a mod but it's free. Mods legally can't be sold.
As someone who hasn’t played HL2 yet, should I play with this mod? I love the added enemies and guns and might just play this version on my first go
No, definitely play Half-life 2 vanilla before installing any mods.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon got it, thanks!
Definitely vanilla first. You appreciate it more after you change it to what you wouldve done through mods
I have the mod but for some reason I see a lot of white lines and most of the new stuff won’t be there. But I have all the stuff for it
What's that other mod from the intro? It looked interesting.
Looks like two other mods, MMod and Entropy Zero. Highly recommend both if you're even the slightest interested.
It's a very stupid fun mod that's all that matters. But I'm upset with how many bugs there are. Way too many crashes and things that just impede progression through the game. Anytime I have to use noclip or God to get on in the game isn't great so it's like a 6/10 for me
I wonder if this works with other mods, MMod and/or Cinematic. I'm new to modding HL2.
The slander part
Like Payday2, Modding for Payday2 deems as a Cheat or some sort getting slander by those cringe virgins unwilling to mod it nor do they understand why people mod it in the first place
why they don't use xen enimes model from black mesa source mod ?
5:15 Exactly!!!!!!!!! i think the same way about this, and i even say that for me half-life 2 is boring, and just the same the whole game, but with this mod, i feel like this mod is exactly what half-life is needs to be.
I agree with you in 13:47 but about new vegas the frontier mod, mod is a mod, some thing could be good, some could be bad, but its new, its experiment from the people that love to express their vision of the game, and that's what modding is about
I'm getting many mixed signals on wether I should download this or not?
They turned half life 2 into a survival horror 😲
Or like serious sam
@@rawpowerjagg serious Sam & postal fall under the weird shooter category just like call of duty ghost.
I can’t even play the mod due to instant crash lmao
It’s quite a strange mod but it’s ok
I will actually play this!!!!
if i created a HL2 mod i would have at the start of the DESC this mod is not for Purists if your a Purist turn away from this one
i wish this mod combine with mmod .
This mod looks dope, I don't know what people's problems are with it. Thanks for the showcase! And yeah I love seeing the old aliens come back.
