I’ve had an RG470 since 1998. It’s always been a comfortable and reliable guitar. I fell in love with the Wizard II neck immediately. When the EVH drop-D tuner debuted, I seriously considered swapping my low-pro Floyd Rose for one like my brother’s Jackson. Looking back, I’m glad I never did that.
Throughout my years of playing, I've had all of the three types installed into their corresponding guitar model. Honestly, I was extremely dissatisfied with the Edge Pro due to its intermittent instability in terms of tuning despite the guitar being a prestige. The fretboard was infallibly comfortable though. I've unreasonably discredited the efficiency of the original Edge and proceeded to purchase a 96s Japanese RG with a LO-PRO Edge. It was significantly more stable in comparison to the more modernized Edge Pro which didn't exactly come as a surprise to me since I've always had a predilection towards old hardware and corroborated their reliability. However, I eventually sold the 96's RG and bargained for a 91's RG570 with the rarest finish. I was stupefied at how stable the bridge and tuning was( I'm still using that particular guitar ;), it rarely went out of tune even when I'm playing heavier stuff like Pantera, unlike the aforementioned Edge Pro. I dare to say that Its stability is exceeding this of the LO-PRO edge. Marvelous tremolo. My ranking of the more high-end Ibanez tremolos would be - 1.Original Edge 2.LO-PRO Edge 3.Edge Pro 4.Edge Zero(although it's pretty equal with the Edge Pro) Additionally, I'm slightly curious as to if you wish to make a direct comparison between the Floyd Rose and the Original Edge - and which one do you think it's better?
Thank you for that detailed comment and sharing your experience! Your ranking is aligned with what most people find :) I personally prefer Lo-Pro because of the lower profile, and I like how Edge Pro feels under palm but in terms of stability I think your rating is spot-on. I'd love to make that comparison and there's a chance I'll have a guitar with Original Floyd Rose joining my stable soon, so that will become possible. I'm curious myself!
@@Ibbyhead I'm really looking forward to it. Honestly, not many UA-camrs have made a similarly direct comparison, consider yourself innovative :D. By the way, what's your favourite Ibanez guitar and why?
@@deftartisan6769 I don't have one favourite :D I really dig my Korean RG370B, it's nicely worn in, and I made some upgrades to it. I generally like thicker neck profiles like Wizard II or Ultra and double humbucker or HS configuration. I recently have a lot of fun with RG465 although it has Edge III term which is suboptimal. I really really like the MMM1, but it's a bit oddball. RGT2020/3020/3120 are ones I'm hunting for as I feel those would work for me really nicely.
@@Ibbyhead I've never felt a thicker Ibanez neck profile haha. I presume they would produce more sustainable tones? I got to admit, the RG465 is a pretty good looking model overall, I had one long ago haha. Its playability is outstanding for an Indonesian-made guitar.
Spot on information! I learned a few things about a couple of the Trems I haven't owned (e.g. Edge Pro II and Edge III). Basically, you can't go wrong with the high end Edge models. They're all brilliant. Of the Lo Pro & OG Edge, I like the Lo Pro just a touch more. Glad you decided to cover the Edge Zero/EZ II in another video, as they're descendents of another of my faves, the ZR (Zero Resistance) Tremolo. The SynchroniZR is pretty cool too! 👍
Edge Pro for life! My old RG had an Edge Pro II, which is just a slightly cheaper version with material cost concessions such as zinc saddle chips and retainer blocks vs the original's solid ones. Still it was hands down the most well packed feature sets of any standard Ibanez double locking floating bridge out there. The handling and dependability, as well as the convenience of not having to risk losing any tiny chips or cut the ball ends off the strings, just elevate it to the next level.
Not super popular opinion, but I love to see it get some love! I like it a lot too, although it's probably after Lo-Pro in my personal ranking :) Thanks for commenting!
Next do a video about necks! Seems like ibanez is all over the place with their Ultra, JPM, and Wizard 4 necks, I know a hand full of guitars that are CLEARLY labeled incorrectly on the Ibanez Fandom wiki
My old RG1570 had the Edge Pro and once set up that bridge would NOT go out of tune. It was insane how much abuse it could take. Still miss that guitar!
Great history lesson! I was fortunate enough to purchase a RG5320 prestige with the lo-pro edge tremolo. It's my first high end guitar and first floating bridge system. So far, it is AWESOME! This was a very informative video for me as I was wondering how high end the bridge actually was. Good to know it is indeed the top tier. Spent A LOT of money on this guitar. Well at least it was for me anyways.
I'm down with the low pro edge as well, better for palm muting and raising notes with my palm. Another reason that I never understood is that my Jem 777 edge had little square pieces under the saddles so you could get a bad saddle insert out by poking it through but these pieces got lost and didn't stay on. I never understood how they were even supposed to stay on and it was more difficult to line up the saddle insert with the saddle string lock screws while these little saddle insert holding plates were not there. Only problem now is it's almost impossible to get a bad saddle insert out of a saddle. Lol Hey man thanks for the history lesson and I say we have similar taste . Great video 👍
Having played many Ibanez with edge & edge lo pros I’ve found sometimes they just aren’t consistent 🤷♂️ The Schecter C-1 FRS Elite uses a 1000 series Floyd Rose licensed Trem. It’s IMHO the best Dbl Locking system I’ve ever used(30+ years). It takes abuse and snaps back dead nuts tune!
Still have my 1991 RG770 with original edge trem and it's absolutely STUNNING original Wizard neck ! And the IBZ/DiMarzio pups - wouldn't change a thing - I think the 86 to 92 RG gits are Golden Age Greats - Excellent info Tank You - just subbed.
Awesome info! Thank you so much. Please make a video on how to replace the knife edges on the Lo-Pro Edge (which is the one you mentioned has replaceable knife edges, right?).
@@Ibbyhead Look forward to it! Information about the procedure on the Internet was sparse from my cursory searches, but I know that if anyone knows how to get that info, it's you! Haha, all the best!
Great information and video Ibby! I have an Edge Pro II on my 2006 Korean Ibanez Jem Jr 555 and it stays in tune and haven't had any issues. Guitar plays phenomenal! At some point I'm going to find an Edge Pro in the black COSMO replace Edge Pro II.
My 2003 Korean RG370B had Edge Pro II. Never had issues with it, but recently found a spare Edge Pro on second-hand market and put in there :) I like the arm socket mechanism on EP much more :)
Great video, easy to understand, very detailed and informative of the different variations, I was unaware there were clones and re-releases of the original Tremolo's. I own four Ibanez guitars, a JS1000 BTB with the Cosmo Black Lo-Pro Edge, an Ibanez Premium RG870QMZ with the Cosmo Black Edge-Zero II, an S-Series S770PB with the ZR Tremolo and the Ibanez RG7620 with the Lo-Pro Edge 7. They've all worked flawlessly and I've not had any issues with any of them going out of tune, the only downside is the common wear and tear they go through as it's noticeable that some metal parts of the tremolo's fall victim to rust quicker than others. The most frustrating thing for me is finding replacements for these parts that have been tarnished over time as there are almost zero distributors that ship internationally if you're someone who is based outside of the EU like I am in New Zealand. Peace! ! !✌️😎
Yeah, for some models that been phased out (like ZRs) it's getting hard to get parts even in Europe. But I can imagine it gets way harder in NZ or Australia.
Thank you very much for this informative video on the Ibanez trems! You helped me figure out exactly which model I have in my old Ibanez S540 (it's the original Edge). It has been damaged beyond repair from ~30 years of abuse and I need to replace it, but I couldn't identify the tremolo on my own - until now, that is. Thank you SO much!
@@Ibbyhead Thank you! I can happily inform you that it has since been fixed. I did however decide on a Lo-Pro Edge instead of the regular Edge and it's been working fine for a couple of weeks now. :)
Thank you to review the Ibanez bridge, as I know they developed with Gotoh. By the way, Lo pro edge 7 string is my favorite, in terms of looking and stability but stability to stay in tune, maybe better, however the problem is the arm bar which never stays tight even changing the white little plastic ring, I watched a video in which a guy changed the complete arm and socket by an original arm bar plus socket floyd rose and worked great as original floyd. Second up grade I would change the block by a fu tone brass block and the springs by the red ones, even though with the ibanez block has already good sustain but I feel it lacks of tightness and stability.
Thank you for your comment! I know there's a Japanese company, Red Bishop, that produces a dedicated kit for Edge/Lo-Pro Edge to change the arm to screw-in.
Hello Ibby I recently found an RG550 from the year 2000 and this guitar is now my favorite guitar of all time. It is the one of the second run of the RG550 from 98-2001I think cause the neck joint is actually cut away unlike every RG550 I have ever seen now it does have the Wizard 3 piece neck, and the V8, V7, and the S1 pickups in it. Now my question to you is this, is this guitar one of the rarer RG550's out there cause I have yet to see another out there with this cut away? I would just like to know more about this model cause there's almost no info on these thanks man.
Wow, I could've saved myself a week of reading forums and trying to compare spec sheets if I'd found this video sooner. Thank you. I recently bought an ergodyne EDR470 with a Lo-TRS II and was wondering what I could throw in as an upgrade without needing to do any routing? A lot of people keep saying the OFR but id rather stick with ibanez bridges if possible
Lo-TRS is probably also direct fit. It's a slightly better bridge than Lo-TRS II, made in Japan by Takeuchi. I think Gotoh 1996T is the most popular choice as a replacement. Gotoh is also responsible for producing the Edge and Lo Pro Edge bridges. Ibanez is just a brand and nearly nothing with a Ibanez sticker is produced directly by Ibanez.
I don't suppose you would have any information on the saddle radius of the Edge 3 do you? I'm trying to find a replacement that isn't necessarily an Edge Pro 2 or Edge Pro. I see a lot of conflicting answers browsing the forums for drop in replacements and have been scouring for answers for quite some time now. Any info helps.
The ZR is completely different system using bearings, it's super cool, I'm collecting research to make that video. I also haven't covered Edge Zeros with ZPS system, that video is shot, but haven't been great with editing recently, I hope for some time for this during Christmas break. Thanks a lot for commenting and pushing me a bit to finish those videos!
@@Ibbyhead this was a great video! So no problem For the ZR bridge, it introduced something interesting from a guitar maintenance point of view outside of the ball bearings. They had offset intonation screws so that they were able to be reached without needing to completely loosen the strings. I think that carried over into the current generations. It also had a intonation set screw tool, the ones seen on the opposite side of the tremolo arm bushing that could be screwed into the the intonation post in the back to pull it back while intonating, or loosen it ever so slightly to let it slide up to combate string tension while trying to intonate. It was my favorite version of an edge bridge as far as maintenance is concerned, but they never made it in lefty so i only ever fixed them, and couldn't play them.
I'm sad that the Edge Pro didn't end up replacing the old Edge and LoPro Edge as intended. It had a more modern feel and I liked the fact that you didn't have to cut the string balls.
That's not a popular opinion. :D Many people didn't accept Edge Pro as flagship trem. I like it very much, but there's something nice about how massive the Edge / Lo-pro Edge feels in comparison.
@@Ibbyhead That's a common issue in the guitar world. Many improvements has been lost because a lot of people just want "exactly like has always had". Had Steve Vai made a statement about how the Edge Pro is a game changer, many would only praise by the Edge Pro by now.
Love the low-pro in my RG7620 - everything except the arm socket 😅 the actual threaded part and the nut underneath it tends to vibrate loose. Im going to have to loc-tite it next time I change strings 😬
Thanks for this information man. I’m in the process of buying my first Ibanez. The S1070PBZ. I played an S series way back in 2004 that was amazing, most likely the Edge 2 bridge. Anyway. Would love to see information on the Edge Zero. I want to swap out the Edge Zero II but it doesn’t look like a friendly routing.
Very good video, is there any new Ibanez Trem Bridges after the release of this video? and are those tremolos interchangable with Floyd Roses? or the studs location holes and sizes do not match?
Thank you! There's nothing new in the double-locking department. Edge and Lo-Pro Edge are in use in prestige guitars - those are interchangeable with Floyd Roses, but I don't think that's an upgrade tbh. There's also Edge Zero on some Prestiges and Edge Zero II on most lower tiers and those are unfortunately not interchangeable without some woodwork (different space between posts).
@@bluematrix5001 I like the design of Edge/LoPro Edge more. In terms of quality, they should be very on par. They're all produced by Gotoh, but they maybe produced to different specification. I don't have a lot of first-hand experience with the GE1996T, but internet tends to love it as Ibanez swap in.
Very informative video. Could you please recommend me a better upgrade to the cheaper edge3 which has softer materials and that does not require re routing of trem cavity. Would greatly appreciate the advice.
Generally Floyd Rose and it's copies fit, so maybe something like Floyd Rose Special would make sense financially. Gotoh GE1996T is also a popular choice.
I’ve had the Edge on my Ibanez RG550 since I bought it in 1992. It’s still Rock solid and love it ! I have two LTD guitars on order with Floyd Rose 1000 … any opinion on those as how they compare with Edge ? I here they are pretty decent … hope they as good as the Edge
Ibby? I have an Ibanez Jem Jr model 555 with the Edge Pro II do you know what bridge tremolo systems will go into my guitar and replace this Edge Pro II? I really want to replace it I find it to be poor tremolo system. Do I need Edge Pro? Are Lo Pro Edge? Thanks
I just bought a guitar with an Edge Zero II and all I can say is that the Zero Point system kills sustain enormously I took it out and the difference is immense. Can’t say that much about tuning stability because I haven’t really abuse the whammy bar
I don't have a lot of experience with bridges with the ZPS, but I'm now hunting few pieces to play them and make a similar video about Edge Zero / EZII and ZR tremolos. But I heard that from many players about ZPS.
I own a Ibanez with an original edge trem and I own an Indonesian made Ibanez with the edge zero II bridge. I did pull out the zps system and I like it a lot better. But there’s no comparison with how much smoother the original edge is. The Indonesian Ibanez is a really nice guitar but the original edge trem is unreal

Unfortunately at this level, probably most economic solution will be swapping to some other affordable bridge. Most likely the threads are broken and you won't be able to tighten that arm.
My rg655 has an edge and my rgd3127 has a lo-pro edge. As soon as I learn to maintain my own guitars instead of paying people to do it, I'm sure I will love my bridges.
Those two are pretty much the best out there. Mastering double locking bridges takes a moment, but when you get it you'll be good to maintain them. Good luck!
Thank you for this. I'm not a trem guy but I like my guitars to have them because it looks cool. My RGs are with Edge and Edge Zero. I hope one day you can make a set-up video about the Edge ZERO. Cheers
Glad I could help. I'm putting my heads on couple of guitars with Edge Zeros and ZR trems to research the whole ZPS topic. I will be making video about it in couple of months!
Nope, it will not fit in the cavity. Your best Ibanez choicse bet is probably Edge Pro, but they're getting really hard to find. Gotoh 1996T and Floyd Rose are popular "3rd party" replacements.
I just got an rg470ahm and going from memory, the tremolo on it looks pretty much identical to the Floyd on a Jackson I used to have that was stolen. What I'm wondering is whether a "D tuna" (I think that's what they're called) made for a Floyd will work on the bridge of the rg470ahm. Seems like it should, but are the dimensions of the bolt it attaches to and acts upon close enough for it to work as intended or am I likely to experience an "Aw, sh#t!" moment when I try to install it? Sure would be nice to be able to easily switch between standard and drop D tunings... Now to re-watch the video so I can hopefully tell with certainty which trem I have. Ibanez is a "funny" manufacturer. I couldn't have missed the fact that it has a Wizard III neck, but I have not seen anything yet that tells me which tremolo I have. The substantial booklet that came with the guitar, which I figured would fill me in on specifics about the model I bought, couldn't be more generic and probably covers every electric guitar made by Ibanez. As thick as it is, there's only a handful of pages in English and the rest is translations into possibly every language known to man. I'll have to check to see if they have it in Latin or some other "dead" language. 🤔😉🤣😁👍
Hi, I have Ibanez RG320FM with Edge Pro II tremolo. Can I replace it with Edge Pro III tremolo since I cannot find any Edge Pro II on the market at the moment. Has anyone done it and is it technically possible?(Speaking about dimensions, etc.)
The Edge III (There's no such thing as EPIII) is a few millimetres longer than EPII. When I just tried, it fits, but the microtuning screw is scraping on the back of the route. So it may need some cosmetic woodwork.
Phenomenal video, friend, I have an Ibanez RGHRG with Edge 3 bridge, I want to replace it with a Lo-Pro Edge, do you know if they have the same dimensions for exchange?
Great video! I have an original Edge on my '86 PL1880, pretty much one of the first guitars to have the Edge. Its definitely the best feeling trem. Also have a RG350DXZ with the ZP. Question: is it possible to mount a evh dtuna to the original Edge?
I'm sorry, I have no practical experiences. I saw some posts on Jemsite, that it's possible, but doesn't work very well with Edge (doesn't move the pitch exactly to D and change balance of the trem).
Unfortunately not. They have different width at the post. The most compatible swaps are Edge Pro, Original Floyd Rose and Gotoh GE1996T, which are all not very affordable.
@@Ibbyhead yeah ofr are quite expensive i have one in my js30, maybe i check an secondhand not beat up edge pro on the fb marketplace. Thanks bro! more powers!
Hi, great info.... Is it possible to replace "edge pro" with original floyd rose/gotoh/schaller bridge without making any modifications on the guitar? Best regards
I know Edge III is quite commonly replaced with Gotoh 1996T, and Edge Pro has slightly bigger route and same post spacing, so it should work. Why do you want to replace your Edge Pro?
Hi! Thanks a lot for sharing so much informations about those trems. I've still got a question about the Edge III, I've got one I'd like to replace, but I don't find any solid information about wich one to choose without modifying the guitar body. Which trem would fit in term of stud spacing? Thanks a lot for your answer!
@@Ibbyhead thank you very much for your answer. My concern is about the in between studs space, 68mm for Edge III, 74mm for a Floyd Rose type, and the Gotoh seems to be a 74mm. Thanks again !
Thanks for clarifying, I was very confused about all of them. Someone in my area is selling an edge pro for 140 euros - 160 dollars. Do you think that would be a good choice to upgrade my guitar that has a cheap generic floyd?
I only own one RG with a "cheaper" EDGE and that one is my RG350MDX. all my other Ibanez guitars all have the original Edge or the lo pro Edge. Even though the Edge III is no where near as good as a original Edge it is not complete trash either. I have used it for over 7 years now and it still stays in tune even with extreme Vai / Satch type Bar stunts. I mean how bad can they be? I can only go by my own experience and say the EDGE III has never given me a issue in over 7 years of use and think it deserves to be a bit higher on your EDGE tier list.
Hi. Thanks for this video! I was wondering if I can replace my Ibanez “Edge Pro” tremolo to Ibanez “Edge” tremolo on my Ibanez Jem7v 2008 year which originally came with Edge Pro tremolo. Thanks!
@@Ibbyhead thanks for the answer Would like to clarify the same Ibanez Jem7v that goes since 2010 with Edge tremolo differs inside (area for tremolo) from Jem 7v that was installed with Edge Pro (2003-2009)? They did changes and cut the wood for Edge Tremolo in comparison with Edge Pro? :-0
I have an Edge tremolo on my Prestige. When I pull up, it shifts the tuning +12 cents. And when I push down, it goes back to correct tuning. Any idea how to fix this?
Could be few things, but most likely it's not operating smoothly on the knife edge / post meeting point. First thing to check would be if knife edges are, well, knife-sharp, and put some chapstick on the posts.
@@Ibbyhead I have also original non recesed floyd rose on my Adrian Smith Jackson. Floyd has better tuning stability. Edge pro has better sustain. Like you sad, edge pro feels better to palm. I do not like small saddle intonation screws on edge pro which are very fragile but I prefer fine intonation wheels on edge pro.
Hello!!! I'm looking for an affordable guitar in the used market and I found the JS100 for a very good price. I also found an Ibanez S470 (22 frets) with the ZR tremolo system and the RG370DX made in Indonesia (Edge III). All of these guitars are very affordable. I can replace the pick-ups in every one of these models, but I'm really interested in the tremolo system. In my country of origin, finding replacements is very difficult and/or extremely expensive so I'm stuck with whatever I decide go with. If you have any insight, I would really appreciate it. Sorry for my broken English.
Hello, your English is perfectly understandable - don't worry about it :) I'll probably would go with JS100 or RG370DX - there's a lot of replacement for those bridges if they go bad. The S470 has a very cool ZR system that uses ball bearings instead of edges and is potentially longer lasting, but the spare parts to those bridges are becoming a huge problem, since they went out of production nearly a decade ago, and they're not coming back.
I have an onld RG570 with a low Pro and its still awesome. I also have an RG770DX reissue with an Edge and that rocks. I briefly had an RG with a Low TRSii that was the biggest pile of horseshit ever. I had a more recent RG3570 with the Edge Zero and it was really stable but I hated the ultra stiff fine tuners, I really could not get used to those, so that guitar went...even though it was an awesome guitar. AN RG3570 in Lazer Blue with the yellow DImarzio's and an Edge or LoPro would be a really nice guitar. Thanks for the great video :-)
All of the Ibanez Tremelo systems are manufactured by Gotoh in Japan and China. Technically….. Ibanez doesn’t manufacture guitars except for in one place. The United States at their Hoshino custom shop in California. Just like many other companies, the guitars that are made in Japan, Indonesia, Korea and China, are not actually made by Ibanez themselves.
Although this is mostly true, definitely not all. Some bridges were produced by Takeuchi and other manufacturers. Also Premium factory in Indonesia is technically owned by Ibanez, so since 2011 Ibanez is actually producing some of their guitars by themselves.
@@Ibbyhead okay good to know because I have an old rg that I got a couple years ago used and I originally had a edge 3 on it and I replaced it with Floyd Rose special because my brother-in-law had his old one and I'm thinking about getting original Floyd Rose and switching out the bridges just so I have better tuning stability
Thanks for a great video, very easy to follow/understand the different versions. :) Also, if I ever ponder getting another guitar with a floating bridge, I'll do my research first and avoid the low-end versions for sure. Can't give you my opinion on different bridges since I have only one and have some troubles with it - maybe you can help me? I had it set up by a local guitar tech but I'm not entirely convinced it's completely in the right angle. It's the second setup for it (the original seller "set it up" for me but it was a completely messy setup (f.e. twisted neck, it's quite appalling since he has a legit business doing guitar setups...!)) It's an old Lo-Pro Edge (2001, I just bought it so don't know the history of this guitar but I believe it's the original bridge but it's a bit hard to find exact info on this guitar since for some reason you can't find it on Ibanez Wiki or anywhere else, really, I believe the model is RG550EXL (lefty version of RG550EX). (Same finish (galaxy black, same mirrored pickguard, same inlays, produced in the same time period as the right-handed version) but it seems the right-handed has a different bridge (Edge. That's what the Wiki says).) I'm not sure if the angle it was set up with is entirely correct - according to what I found elsewhere, the knife edge in a properly set up bridge should look completely parallel to the body - well it's not on mine. It's angled a bit downwards (if looking from the side, downwards towards the back side/fine tuners). I can send a pic if needed (where?). I'd really appreciate some help, so I can be sure it's correct, so the tuning stability is as good as I can get from it. Or if the angle is actually correct, then I can go on ruling out other possible issues regarding tuning stability.
Great video, very informative thank you for making it... Im thinking of buying a guitar with the edge pro on it but all over the internet im hearing about the fact it doesn't have locking studs, is it really as big of a problem as people are making out? And the locking stud mod detailed on ibanezrules do you know much about that and if its worth it? Basically i just want to know if its gonna stay in tune well as i was really set on getting one with the edge or lo pro... TIA
I don't find it to be a huge issues, but if you're ver heavy tremolo player it apparently makes a little different. I know this mod is quite popular, and lot of people have done it. I'd say it really depends if you do a lot of heavy tremolo work.
@@Ibbyhead Thanks for your reply, I ended up buying the guitar, i should hopefully get it back from being set up today (was all way out of whack) I'm definitely not a really heavy whammy bar user just sometimes, so should be no worries I'm hoping.
2017 Jem Jr has the new "Standard Double Locking Tremolo", sometimes called "Standard DL Tremolo". It's the lowest tier of what's available right now. I don't have much experience with it, so no idea how much mileage you'll get out of this.
Well I've had about four different ibanez's and no matter what bridge is on it I've had troubles with it. A real Floyd Rose made in Germany is your best bet. Gotho makes a solid bridge as well. No troubles with either of those. Just saying.
Edge / LoPro Edge and Edge Pro are all made by Gotoh, just saying ;) That being sad, I'm glad that you found what's working for you. German Floyds are great!
jesus christ, not even on the Ibanez website you can find info about the bridges, they should pay you for doing their marketing. Too bad the edge pro is so hard to find these days.
Great video! I used to think that the number (II and III) were actually newer and improved verssions of the bridge. Ibanez seems to have a thing for confusing naming schemes.
Question: Do the knife edge spacing's change with each generation of bridges or are they all the same? I would love to go to a floyd rose or a higher end ibanez but if its 1mm off one would have to dowel and redrill everything and I would be better off getting a charvel.
Not all of them have the same spacing so you'd have to check on specific bridges you want to swap. I know for example, that Edge Zeros have different spacing than most of the Edge family.
man thank you for this. I'm just starting to really get into guitars and was so confused by all the Ibanez bridge names, this cleared up almost everything.
Like everyone here says “great info” about the Ibanez bridges, I just bought an Ibanez S Prestige the Sunset Burst model and was wondering about the tremolo system. Wonder why they didn’t upgrade these to the edge zero with the w/zps3 tremolo system they are in the prestige family. Is the body to thin? Or is it’s an upgrade at all? Looking forward to your comparison of Edge Zero systems and would like to see a comparison of the Ibanez tremolo systems to the Floyd system, which, in your opinion, is a better tremolo. Subscribing! 🖖 & 🤘 Max Power
Thanks! I think German made floyds are on par with the Edge / Lo Pro Edge. But it would be interesting to make that video, because there are few minor construction differences. I'm taking note of that idea! :)
My first Ibanez was Korean RG370 and Wizard II is also my favourite profile. Feels more familiar to my hands :)
Very good video showing the Edge family tree, hope to see the next video on the Edge Zero with ZPS system soon, thanks again
Best video I have seen about the different Ibanez bridges. Thank you for the work you have put into this.
Thanks for stopping by!
Great info. I had a 1987 RG550 with Edge tremolo on it. The original Edge is fantastic. Never used any of the others.
Right on! Edge is legit.
Solid educational info because there is a bunch of variety. I personally love the Fixed Gibraltar II's.
I'm glad you found it useful. Gibraltars are super solid fixed bridges!
I agree, but you should check out the older Gibraltar that’s on the Ibanez sv4020….Gibraltar custom fixed it’s called…
When the Ecstacy kicks in and you wanna do a video love it 😀
Throughout my years of playing, I've had all of the three types installed into their corresponding guitar model.
My ranking of the more high-end Ibanez tremolos would be -
1.Original Edge
2.LO-PRO Edge
3.Edge Pro
4.Edge Zero(although it's pretty equal with the Edge Pro)
Additionally, I'm slightly curious as to if you wish to make a direct comparison between the Floyd Rose and the Original Edge - and which one do you think it's better?
That's a great idea, thanks Brandon!
My old RG1570 had the Edge Pro and once set up that bridge would NOT go out of tune. It was insane how much abuse it could take. Still miss that guitar!
It is really solid trem. I like how compact it feels in comparison to Edge and Lo-Pro
A great explanation of the various Ibanez tremolos! Thank you!
Thank you for your comment, glad you found it useful!
Congratulations on the new guitar! You have the best there is in terms of trems! Happy whaming :D
Lol
Hey man thanks for the history lesson and I say we have similar taste . Great video 👍
Thanks!
Having played many Ibanez with edge & edge lo pros I’ve found sometimes they just aren’t consistent 🤷♂️
The Schecter C-1 FRS Elite uses a 1000 series Floyd Rose licensed Trem. It’s IMHO the best Dbl Locking system I’ve ever used(30+ years). It takes abuse and snaps back dead nuts tune!
I'm glad you found what works for you! 1000 series Floyds are super solid choice!
@@Ibbyhead from the factory it was spot on. Now I have had great FR Edge Bridges, the one Lo Pro I have just doesn’t do it for me.

@@Ibbyhead Look forward to it! Information about the procedure on the Internet was sparse from my cursory searches, but I know that if anyone knows how to get that info, it's you! Haha, all the best!

Yeah, that's a great indicator, I wish never designs have that too. I only had lower end JS in my hands, but I love the curves on it :)

@@IshredGuitar I'm in Sweden. I'd say guitars are about 20% more expensive in Europe than in the US, although it depends.
Great information. Clear, concise. I appreciate it very much.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful!
I love my Lo Pro edge, I think it’s the best
LoPros are awesome!
Happy to help! I hope you'll be able to fix your 540 and enjoy it again!
@@Ibbyhead Thank you! I can happily inform you that it has since been fixed. I did however decide on a Lo-Pro Edge instead of the regular Edge and it's been working fine for a couple of weeks now. :)
@@MrGul Awesome choice, I like the feel of Lo-Pro a bit more personally :)
@@Ibbyhead oh really? I will check it out
Hello Ibby I recently found an RG550 from the year 2000 and this guitar is now my favorite guitar of all time.
If you mean AANJ (All Access Neck Joint), most RGs after 1994 will have it. Does it have mirrored pickguard?
Ibby Register Yes it does but I'm guessing it might have came with a black one and someone replaced it over the years.

@@Ibbyhead Awesome, thank you. A lot of people have been recommending the gotoh so maybe I'll try that out. Thanks again.

I have one and could probably measure this somehow. You mean how the saddles are stacked for fretboard radius?
@@Ibbyhead Yeah that'd be great if you could.
Only one i didn't see you discuss was the ZR, or the Zero Return/Resistance which turning into the zero line around line 2012 i think.
So no problem
For the ZR bridge, it introduced something interesting from a guitar maintenance point of view outside of the ball bearings.
Very nice video
Thanks, appreciate it!
Are any other models( Edge or original Floyd Rose) compatible with the Low Pro pivot post?
Edge and Lo Pro are drop-in-exchangable, with no issues. Most Original Floyd rose also fit.
Love the low-pro in my RG7620 - everything except the arm socket 😅 the actual threaded part and the nut underneath it tends to vibrate loose. Im going to have to loc-tite it next time I change strings 😬
It happens to my too, I know the pain!
Thanks for the comment! Good to hear, that there's need for Edge Zero episode!
Excellent info on the Ibanez bridges, thank you.. What is the diameter of the tremolo arm on the Edge Pro 2 please ?
It's 5.5mm
Edge better sound to me 🎸❤
Thanks for sharing! I don't have great ears so don't hear difference that well. But it's stellar, super stable bridge!
Looking forward to the video about edge zero bridges
Very good video, is there any new Ibanez Trem Bridges after the release of this video? and are those tremolos interchangable with Floyd Roses? or the studs location holes and sizes do not match?
Thank you! There's nothing new in the double-locking department. Edge and Lo-Pro Edge are in use in prestige guitars - those are interchangeable with Floyd Roses, but I don't think that's an upgrade tbh. There's also Edge Zero on some Prestiges and Edge Zero II on most lower tiers and those are unfortunately not interchangeable without some woodwork (different space between posts).
@@Ibbyhead awesome so in your opinion a good Gotoh Floyd Rose is as good as any Edge and Lo-Pro Edge ? thank u
Hello sir! Can WE put a low pro edge on a Floyd Rose cavity?
I actually have no idea, and have no guitar I could try it out at the moment. Great question, I'll look into it.

Don't have personal experience with them, but they're one of the better Floyds. Should work great!
hi, how do you adjust these ibanez saddle to match fretboard radius? did you put shims like ofr. thanks
Hi! The base plate has "steps" for each strings for the most common Ibanez radius (16-17") but you can add shims to fine tune it.
Thanks
Edge Pro will fit, Lo Pro Edge is too big. I never tried it, but I've heard that Gotoh GE1996T is also a good replacement.

Unfortunately at this level, probably most economic solution will be swapping to some other affordable bridge. Most likely the threads are broken and you won't be able to tighten that arm.
hi where to buy lo pro edge tremolo thanks
Hi, You can buy them from Ibanez dealers. In Europe, MEINL has them. In the USA check out IbanezRules for example.
Cheers

Anybody know what is on the RG652AHM? I have a hard time figuring out which one is on there
RG652AHM was produced in time after Ibanez came back to their senses and brought back Edge / Lo Pro Edge system. This model had Edge bridge stock.
@@Ibbyhead thank you!!!
I don't have experience with D-Tuna. Sorry :(
Hi, I have Ibanez RG320FM with Edge Pro II tremolo.
They are not unfortunately. The post width is the same, but LoPro is generaly much larger tremolo. It will need some woodwork around to fit.
I saw some posts on Jemsite, that it's possible, but doesn't work very well with Edge (doesn't move the pitch exactly to D and change balance of the trem).
can i replace the edge pro 2 with a edge zero II plug and play?
Unfortunately not. They have different width at the post. The most compatible swaps are Edge Pro, Original Floyd Rose and Gotoh GE1996T, which are all not very affordable.

From Ibanez - only Edge Pro will fit. I never tried it, but I've heard that Gotoh GE1996T is also a good replacement.
@@Ibbyhead thank you very much for your answer. My concern is about the in between studs space, 68mm for Edge III, 74mm for a Floyd Rose type, and the Gotoh seems to be a 74mm. Thanks again !

RG652AHM have Ibanez Edge stock installed - very good bridge!
Great!..... Can I use the same tremolo bar for Edge II and Edge III?
If you mean the Edge Pro II, then yes. If you mean Edge II then I'm coming to you with bucket of money to buy it, because they're extremely rare :)
Thanks for clarifying, I was very confused about all of them. Someone in my area is selling an edge pro for 140 euros - 160 dollars. Do you think that would be a good choice to upgrade my guitar that has a cheap generic floyd?
It is a great update, if it will fit (so check if spacing will work) and if the knife edges are in good condition. Price is reasonable!
I only own one RG with a "cheaper" EDGE and that one is my RG350MDX. all my other Ibanez guitars all have the original Edge or the lo pro Edge.
Even though the Edge III is no where near as good as a original Edge it is not complete trash either. I have used it for over 7 years now and it still
stays in tune even with extreme Vai / Satch type Bar stunts. I mean how bad can they be? I can only go by my own experience and say the EDGE III has never given me a issue in over 7 years of use and think it deserves to be a bit higher on your EDGE tier list.
I say the same thing to people - even though it's one of the lowest quality trems Ibanez put in their guitars, it is still super solid.
Hi. Thanks for this video!
I was wondering if I can replace my Ibanez “Edge Pro” tremolo to Ibanez “Edge” tremolo on my Ibanez Jem7v 2008 year which originally came with Edge Pro tremolo.

Unfortunately not. The route for Edge Pro is too small. You would have to do some woodwork to make it fit.
@@Ibbyhead thanks for the answer
Would like to clarify
the same Ibanez Jem7v that goes since 2010 with Edge tremolo differs inside (area for tremolo) from Jem 7v that was installed with Edge Pro (2003-2009)?
They did changes and cut the wood for Edge Tremolo in comparison with Edge Pro? :-0
I have an Edge tremolo on my Prestige. When I pull up, it shifts the tuning +12 cents. And when I push down, it goes back to correct tuning. Any idea how to fix this?
Could be few things, but most likely it's not operating smoothly on the knife edge / post meeting point. First thing to check would be if knife edges are, well, knife-sharp, and put some chapstick on the posts.
@@Ibbyhead Same thing on brand new Edge pro on my rg1570 prestige. Conclusion is that knife edges are not to blame.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I like your idea for RG3570 with Edge/LoPro Edge trem! :D
I believe the custom shop in Japan is owned by them to, the J custom Ibanez, or the other way around,, but same company. They also own Tama drums.
wish one of this bridge is the best to have?
Edge, Lo-pro Edge; I think Edge Pro is also very close to that top tier.
Which do you think has better materials a Floyd Rose or a edge?
German made Floyd Rose are top quality, same level as Edge. I like Edge's design more, but that's personal taste.
It's the second setup for it (the original seller "set it up" for me but it was a completely messy setup (f.e. twisted neck, it's quite appalling since he has a legit business doing guitar setups...!))
It's an old Lo-Pro Edge (2001, I just bought it so don't know the history of this guitar but I believe it's the original bridge but it's a bit hard to find exact info on this guitar since for some reason you can't find it on Ibanez Wiki or anywhere else, really, I believe the model is RG550EXL (lefty version of RG550EX). (Same finish (galaxy black, same mirrored pickguard, same inlays, produced in the same time period as the right-handed version) but it seems the right-handed has a different bridge (Edge. That's what the Wiki says).)
I'm not sure if the angle it was set up with is entirely correct - according to what I found elsewhere, the knife edge in a properly set up bridge should look completely parallel to the body - well it's not on mine.
Shoot me email at ibbyreg@gmail.com and I can take a look. Thanks for stopping by!
@@Ibbyhead Okay, I will! Thanks!
Wooo man nice video for junkie ibanez fans! Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by!
Does anybody have the dimensions for the Lo Pro?
Hi, which dimensions do you need? I can measure it for you.
@@Ibbyhead
Thanks for your reply, I ended up buying the guitar, i should hopefully get it back from being set up today (was all way out of whack)
I'm definitely not a really heavy whammy bar user just sometimes, so should be no worries I'm hoping.
I dont have any of them that looks like one thru and threw, I have a jem jr from 2017
2017 Jem Jr has the new "Standard Double Locking Tremolo", sometimes called "Standard DL Tremolo". It's the lowest tier of what's available right now. I don't have much experience with it, so no idea how much mileage you'll get out of this.
Seems like cheap metal and block, still sounds fine as long as you use 9 gauge, anything heavy will wear the knife faster and wont stay tuned
Nice mission 😂😂🤘
Thanks! :D
the edge look like a tiger claw
You have a point there! :D
@@Ibbyhead thanks for being a smart-ass go fuck yourself🖕
6:22 THATS WHAT I WAS SEARCHING FOR FOR DAYS!! Thanks for the upload! I wanted a "tier list" of the tremolos
Great, glad I could help!
jesus christ, not even on the Ibanez website you can find info about the bridges, they should pay you for doing their marketing. Too bad the edge pro is so hard to find these days.
Thanks for the kind words!
I AGREE! THIS MAN MUST BE THE INVENTOR OF ALL OF THESE BRIDGES!!!! 🤣
They used to in the catalogues

Great video! I used to think that the number (II and III) were actually newer and improved verssions of the bridge. Ibanez seems to have a thing for confusing naming schemes.
Thanks! It is a bit confusing. In ZRs they went this other route (ZR2 is improved version).
Thanks for the video...btw can you make tutorial video about tremolo bridge setup like lo pro, edge ,etc...?
Thanks once again...
Stay safe
Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely do it in the future!
man thank you for this. I'm just starting to really get into guitars and was so confused by all the Ibanez bridge names, this cleared up almost everything.
Glad I could help!
Totally agree!

Thanks! I think German made floyds are on par with the Edge / Lo Pro Edge. But it would be interesting to make that video, because there are few minor construction differences. I'm taking note of that idea! :)
Great video mate! A bit of a question. Can an Edge pro on a Prestige RG1420 be swapped for a Low pro Edge or an Original Edge? Thank you!
Unfortunately not. The post spacing should match, but the route is to small to accommodate Edge / LoPro Edge.
Thank you brother!!
