- I've been trying to find this recording for years, and it was well worth the wait.
I'm still searching for his "Eri tu" (from Un ballo in maschera) and his Toreador aria (from Carmen). If anyone has them, please comment or send me a message!

My voice teacher studied vocal pedagogy with Basiola in Milan from 1950 to 62. He explained to me the reasons for the various exercises - he felt I would one day be teaching and could pass on the teaching of Basiola and Cotogni.

Questa interpretazione è una meraviglia! Dopo tutto, Basiola era allievo di Cotogni. Nessuna forzatura, nessuna esagerazione, nessun istrionismo. Tutto è costruito attraverso la musica, la dinamica, l’appoggio del fiato, i colori. Da ricordare

His "O Monumento" is excellent as well. Great voice. Hard to say how he ranks amongst the greatest without knowing testimony from contemporary critics and listeners. His high notes are certainly big. The mid and low register do sound a bit weak to my ears.
Eccezionale. Un fuoriclasse, semplice. Ampiamente superiore a Carlo Tagliabue. Vocalmente, in quanto a purezza di emissione, con pochi riscontri, a meno che non si ascolti quest'aria eseguita da Carlo Galeffi, Giuseppe Danise, Riccardo Stracciari, Titta, Magini Coletti o Pasquale Amato.
