I've heard a lot of histories of elder people that lived the 1960's 9.5 earthquake, and it's terrifying. And old man told me that the cars in the streets jumped during the earthquake and fell (inverted) over another cars, or that little mountains just emerged from the ground. The earthquake lasted +10 minutes so it must have been like an apocalypse for people in that time.
That's totally insane. Its hard for me to imagine cars jumping and mountains forming right before your eyes.
thank god I live in Brazil, which is in the middle of the tectonic plate...
Something terrifying is that in 2010, Bachelet (Chile's president) ordered the coastline citizenship to go down to their homes, while the tsunami was just about to hit the continent.
Even the ground oppened...
my grandfather who passed away once told me that the sky turned black at that time and he just cried.

I'm from Valdivia. There are still deformed houses because of the earthquake, and some of them are almost buried under the ground after all this decades. They are considered cultural patrimony. I wasn't alive in 1960, but my grandmother was, and she remembers how one of the waves in the calle-calle river sent a boat flying, "literally".
Desde cuándo hay gringos en chile?
No te preocupes yo sé ingles

Chile's Valdivia earthquake was so big that after this one, it came the Tsunami that crossed all The Pacific Ocean and caused damage and decease in Australia, Hawaii, Japan and even the waves reached Alaska and African Eats Coast, and, of course, the all American west coast. A whole small town named Corral disappeared and now is under the sea and close to it, where there were just sea, now there is land, and new Corral town is located there. It also created a salty lake with sea wate, where there wasn't any lake.

That's nothing compared to Chile. You guys should really update your seismic construction codes
Are you comparing the intensity of the earthquake? I think you shouldn't because what is important is not the severity of the earthquake, but the loss of life or destruction that is important in the 1960 chile earthquake only 1655 people died 2 million people were left homeless, but in the February 6, 2023 earthquake in Turkey, 38 thousand people is dead
5 million people were left homeless and the earthquake affected 13 million people, so I suggest you examine the destruction of the earthquake, not its intensity.
@@kuru_sogan1 Yes, the intensity of the earthquake is all that matter. If more or less buildings collapse killing thousands of people that's entirely the government's fault. An 8.4 earthquake in 2015 in Chile only killed 15 people

6/9/18, Hokkaido, Japan. We experienced a 6.8(M) earthquake at around 3 in the morning.
