This video explains the essence of repairing a vintage cassette deck on point. Dude, every aspect, every fact, every lesson you speak about is just on point.
Great video Mario! I’ve had so many problems with my tascam portastudio, the forth track isn’t recording. Im gonna open it up and have a look into it today, probably just a wire that’s come unsoldered which I’ve heard has happened with someone online with my particular machine. Haven’t been able to record anything for a while since I’ve had massive writers bloke but I’m writing songs now which is good and it’d be great to record my ideas.
I was recently trying to fix an off brand walkman and i spent forever trying to get the motor and mechanisms working and then when i finally did the audio output died, no sound, no hum, no nothin... All i wanted to do was add a speed control and use it for tape loops and making weird ambience and sound effects to add to my songs but i gave up 😂 they're fun to mess with when they work, luckily i paid basically pennies for it since it was in a box of random electronics I bought. I wouldn't use a cassette for any kind of recording i wanted clean and consistent, maybe just punk demos at best or weird ambient stuff since the inconsistency can add nice variation and texture to a drone. I basically buy every one I see for like 5 bucks or less just because I've learned they're basically ticking down to the time they inevitably break down completely. I think you can still buy cassette recorders or walkman knockoffs on like Amazon but I've never tried one to know if it's worth spending the money or if they last a decent amount of time.
@@ronfrancois I disagree! I used to use my old one very frequently. It's small and portable and I would use it as an audio diary so to speak. Fun for recording funny moments with friends. You can say the same thing about any physical medium. Why write into a journal when you can type it into your smart phone. Or why have records when you can stream music? The physicality is a fun experience in my opinion. I would honestly use mine all the time if I could get a reliable one to work. Cheers

Awesome video! Thanks for getting into the nitty gritty of the mechanics.
I gotta go to a yard sale and pick up a tape player.
Great video Mario, good to see you back.
Hey, thanks!

I was just thinking to myself the day before that I haven’t seen and new videos and here you are!
Microsets are so messy to deal with!
Mario Mario! Your fans want to see another song writing video. The ones where you take an idea from zero to hero as you can only do.

I learned guitar by ear in the 80s and the random speed from deck to deck was a bitch cause it changed the pitch of the tune. Usually sharp.
Do you mean compact cassettes? Micro cassettes are an entirely different beast, more commonly found in dictation and answering machines.
Nope. I am working on a dictation machine which uses a micro cassette.
There's no reason in 2024 to consider using a micro cassette player... Scrub that. They're everywhere!
Why?
