Hi Richard. I bought a 2013 R8 last year. The facelift version of your car. V10 and of course manual transmission. Such a nice car. Looks awesome. And the sound of the engine.... the shifting click/clack...the bubble after double-clutch downshifting.... when you drive the car you want to stay outside to look at it and listen to it and when you stay outside you want to sit in the car and drive it :-). I'm a bit sorry for you that you can't use the full potential of the car in Canada. Here in Germany its just awesome doing 300 km/h+ on the Autobahn ;-). Wish you the best!
Glad to see you talk about the R8, she's a beauty for sure. The fact that you actually got a V10 in a gated manual is pretty amazing, as those are hard to come by. Manual supercars are pretty much dead or dying... it's truly sad.
The challenge with these cars is they are so powerful and regular Joe's with no racing experience are getting behind the wheel. The advanced computer systems do a good job keeping the car out of the ditch with traction and braking controls.... Being an auto trans is part of controlling those beasts. Also you can't shift faster with a manual anymore. Auto is faster at getting you through those gears. It's a tough call though..... Manual is fun.... My daily driver is a 6 speed manual and when buying a car I won't buy an auto. Cheers,
I have the same setup for my currently put away car. Same one! White, 6spd manual....but only 4 cylinders...and only RWD, and only a Honda S2000...but it's the super car of my 27 year old world. Currently on the battery tender with over inflated tires and fuel stabilizer. Your channel is motivation in many ways. Salute
Love the "Here in my garage" line. I can't stand those ads from that guy. Lol. Great car and video. Received some Durden soap yesterday and it is great. Thanks for the videos and keep it up.
The best thing about this car is that it’s a manual. Owned it for a couple of months and I gotta say it’s one of the best cars out there. Nice review Richard !
Richard - You need to verify with the Audi dealer about the R8's issue with front frame cracking - there is an Audi kit available to reinforce the front end - if it cracks, the car is totalled. Best.
Like I said at 21: When you get tired of the long, cold Toronto winter, barren of any exotic car driving, consider coming to beautiful 68 degree Arizona for a track day. My S4 can't hold a candle to the R8 but it's still a kick in the ass around the corners.
So I went all in on a 2015 R8 with the 4.2L V8 engine. I’ll be honest, I couldn’t afford the V10. So it was basically between the 911 Carrera S and this. It’s definitely had some issues, especially with the mag ride. I did swap them out with the BC coilovers, which were actually pretty reasonable in price. I will say I like it better than the Supra I had before. The Supra was definitely faster, but it was not comfortable to drive. I still wonder if I should’ve went with the 911.
That is a beautiful motor Richard I am a big fan of the Audi R8. If my wife was into cars more thats the one car I would buy. My wife is a manager for Mercedes Bens so she brings home some lovely cars. It's kind of my car fix so we don't buy them. You should keep hold of that it ticks so many boxes. Do you watch Samcrac on UA-cam his channel is excellent and he just got an R8
@@EntrepreneursInCars I started watching Samcrac three months ago and his channel is growing so fast I think he has gained 300k in that time. His rebuilds are very interesting. You should do a video chat with him.
my exact dreamcar. white convertible, black top. I wish you could see the engine on the convertibles though, like how they have the glass display on the coupe, fucking love that.
Oh sweet, I had no idea you were Canadian. Im just outside Toronto ish, in Durham region! Bad ass ride dude, I think r8s are best bang for your buck as far as exotics go! It's Reliable, decent storage and interior space, looks amazing but doesn't get the annoying amount of attention a Lamborghini can get.
Gorgeous car. There's a divine manual V10 coupe for sale here in NZ at the mo. It has a no-expense-spared twin-turbo build with 950hp. Oh jeezuz that would be a nice toy. (Not a huge market here in NZ for finding the right manual cars used. 4.5M population doesn't create a large pool!). Love the garage step mod - needs must. I have parking for about 8 cars and have the foundations in for another double garage. Beats deciding which car to sell!
edit: realized you have GMG, no wonder! I truly feel this R8 is much more special than the current R8 v10 plus. Ive only driven the current Gen, but it was just too refined and for some reason sounded very muffled despite dynamic/sport mode. The transmission didn't feel that aggressive even during hard driving with dynamic. Just a little too smooth and refined for my taste. The mag shocks and ride quality is amazing though, soft yet you never feel like it had less grip than stiffer setups. I wish my Cayman GTS had those suspension set up, my back hurts commuting in broken Toronto pavements. I'd imagine your vehicle with the manual and being a more raw experience (even on mic your car sounds better than the stock v10 I drove) is more fun than the current r8. I also think it looks better than the current Gen. As for the McLaren, I drove a 570S at Pfaff. And they wanted me to try the 720 but I said no thanks. I'm just not ready to get behind the wheels of a car like 720 just yet, nor are my pockets🤣. They really do handle quite amazing. Suspension is very well tuned and damped. Rides smooth yet grips hard, the cornering is on a different level than all aluminum chassis cars I've driven. Just feels so ridget! My only complaint is the engine sound (I drove the coupe, I'd imagine a spyder to sound much better). It truly does sound like those 10v Datsun vaccums. Still sounds racier (but less monstrous) than the AMG v8 set ups, which I prefer. Do you have an rough idea on when you'd want to purchase something like the McLaren? Would be such a cool ride!
I found this video pretty interesting actually. One of the reasons I was deterred from the RS4 some years ago, was due to the common knowledge that the V8 had carbon buildup issues. I always assumed that if saved up and later bought a V10 car, you would be free of that problem. Apparently it must be something to do with Audi’s go-to intake design? Thanks for posting this. Definitely made me feel a lot more comfortable with the possibility of one of these in the future. Especially knowing the carbon service is nowhere here near as expensive as I thought.
I did not know that about that particular design, thank you for the knowledge. I build motors as a trade, but not from that particular brand. Absolutely makes sense for that method of fuel delivery.
Ok ok ok - you've convinced me. My issue though is I'm not a high income. Looking at a 2010 model - (just sold property) I have the money to just afford one - but worried about maintenance

How do golf clubs work in these? I'm 5' 11" and worried about seat position if I move forward enough. Can't find much info or pics. Appreciate any insights.
I'm considering buying one. V10 spyder. I'm 6'4" and was concerned about the seats not sitting low enough in the car. Did you ever end up swapping out the seats? I think Sparco or Recaro may have some good options.

Beautiful car. Wish more companies would keep N/A, Manual transmission in their exotics and sports car lines. Was AWD a must for you when shopping for a sports car? Or were you in the market for other configurations as well?
Love seeing videos of this car, I’ve Got an ‘08 GTI with a Unitronic stage 2 tune and the jump from stock on mine was insane. I can only imagine how crazy this thing would be. Keep em coming! Cheers from Vancouver, BC
I’m really curious about your choice of tune. Was there a particular reason you went with Unitronic over other tunes such as APR? I looked at the performance specs of both and I wonder why you went with Unitronic over APR.
Entrepreneurs in Cars very familiar with Unitronic as I had a VW R20 & R32 that I modified the hell out of. VW Golf R’s were great hobby cars. I’ve moved on to Audi’s these days. Love the car and I hope I can find just the right 2011 gated manual V-10 R-8 coupe version for myself.
What your name is Richard, my name is Richard :O I am looking for a good V10 manual as well! Thanks for the informative / honest / entertaining video! Would you say Finance or Lease? Maclaren Vancouver is giving me 7-8% interest on lease, I do own a small business so I can do a $850/month write-off. But I love the car, and the depreciation curve sits nicely after a few years as the manual is rare and you know it retains its value very nicely. The problem I am working through right now is the residual on the lease (45-55% usually) doesn't adequately reflect its lack of depreciation. A finance plan would adequately reflect its lack of depreciation, but I lose my ability to write-off 850/ month lease :( What do you think about a lease and I actually do the unthinkable thing of buying it out at the end? Would appreciate any feedback as I am literally going through a deal at this very moment and you must have gone through with the same questions? Richard
Carbon on the int valvs is common with every DI that doesn't have a duplicate system to wash it (ex PFI). Using a real PAO/Ester synthetic like AMSOIL (not mineral (dino) based ones like Mobil1) will go a long way to keeping your valves clean from EGR gunk and about a million other things... Just for fun I looked up your car on Amsoil site and they don't have a recommendation because it takes 10w 60!! Bummer!
The R8 V10 takes 5W40 (V10 Plus and GT only take 10W60) and we only use synthetic-base oils in our services! Carbon cleaning is still required, only because of the direct injection system.
Do you treat your car passion as a business, meaning do you try and flip them before loosing capital or is it just a passion and what if costs is what it cost
