  • A Salfordian film for Salfordian people. Here we have yet another nostalgic video tour of one of our #Bygonepubs which has been one of #Salford's most prized social gathering grounds since 1971, Closed due to covid St Bonifaces Social Club was the embodiment of socialization and camaraderie yet unfortunately lies in a post apocalyptic derelict state awaiting its imminent demolition.
Just goes to show we shouldnt take things for granted...

It was me Clarky who requested this one and thank you very much for such an excellent vid and a truly remarkable swift turn around, it was only about 3 weeks ago when I dropped you a message...
I frequented this gaff from around 1987 until I moved away in '92...
We were part of the regular Saturday afternoon crowd and the occasional odd evening...
Used to have a £100 and £150 jackpot fruity's that were only 10p a go and I managed to drop it a few times, they were sited at the bottom of the stairs against the windows...
It didn't get the usual knob 'eds in that went in The Bridge and Prince so it was a nice peaceful atmosphere, lots of elderly blokes but a few young ones like us too...
It's really sad to see it like this but also amazing at the same time...
The upstairs was the board room where the committee used to meet...
Never went up there as you weren't allowed so interesting to see...
I actually got served in here my first half pint when I was 15...
They used to hold a CB Radio club where users could meet up...
I went once and was amazed to get served with a real drink...
Never even asked my age or for any ID...
    Different times as they say...
Once again I thank you Clarky for a wonderful trip down memory lane...

Absolute pleasure m8 told I'd look into it lol I used to use the old CB's with my Granded he was Big Tash and I was Knight rider lol then we're the days man and yeah it did have a vibe that it was once a nice place to be honest I didn't even get creeped in there. Hope you liked old school film look and thanks for getting back to us and watching the film it was a pleasure to make it. Clarky.

Absolutely loved that...proper trip down memory lane, my mam was a barmaid at the prince of Wales..all the bus drivers used to go in there from Frederick Road bus station, what a travesty that is now...it was once a magnificent building...my nanna and grandad lived over the bridge the area was called Poets corner because of the street names Longfellow, Tennyson, scott and Wordsworth Street...Happy days,,,would go back in a heart beat..

It's gone, razed to the ground...
Just this week but they have been working inside for ages, I thought they were trying to save it but no...
It's no more just a flat piece of ground destined to be flats...
I thank you once again for recording it for history...

Great video. Me and my mate Boycey and Ray Potter used go in there in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I won the bingo once and the old crowd were really hostile because i was seen as a young upstart intruding on their fun. I remember the resident singer ‘Chris the Butcher’ (a local butcher not the UA-camr) he was dreadful but good at the same time. We had my Mum + Dads 50th anniversary there in 2006 and later my mums funeral ‘after gathering’ in 2014. I was gutted to find out Bonny’s Club had closed and fell into disrepair. The old Ski Lodge would make a fine holiday chalet if you could pick it up and drop it in more pleasant surroundings.

Ahhh used to sing there about 10/15 years ago 💗 they had two comperes; I think they were called big Tony and little Tony. They had a sign in the dressing room that was hilarious, I was hoping it was still there but somebody somewhere will have it hanging on their wall I’m sure! 😂

      Little Tony...
We went on a Jolly Boys from Bonnies once to a strip club in Yorkshire somewhere...
On the way back Little Tony was bladdered and fell asleep...
Some of the lads stripped him off completely and held him up at the back window of the coach...
And he never even woke up...

Lived in Salford until 1980 and then came back in 1983 - 1986 living in Fitzwarren Court near Salford Precinct. To my knowledge, I have never been in this boozer but to be honest in the 80's I was very much focused on bars and clubs in Manchester Centre. Does have a ski lodge look to it. It's sad to see the demise of all these places that are brimming with character. At the end I was expecting The Gary to emerge in a top hat swinging a cane. :) And a last minute appearance by 'The Notorious Nob' (trademark) no less. Another interesting vid Clarky. Keep 'em coming.

A great trip down memory lane Jay. Certainly was a hive of community spirit, get together, Functions on and a place a lot folk wanted to go to for fun, company, neighbourly spirit. Sadly disappearing forever. Looks quite a big place. I’ve vaguely heard of it, but don’t really know that area of Salford. There’s so many venues and buildings. Closing down, would be better they reopened, but don’t, sign of the times !!!!! A lot personal trophies etc left in there, sad. DEFINATELY had an Austrian chalet design and wood seemed be the thing ! Once again as always, thoroughly enjoyed your film. well Gary !!!!! you certainly loved treading the boards didn’t you. Hilarious. top film maker. Di.

I went to St Boniface’s school; I started off at the old school on the corner of Lower Broughton and Frederick road which is now gone. I had my first holy communion at the church which is also gone, and then onto a party at the club in your video. Bonnie’s club would have been pretty much brand new at the time.
