- More than 62,000 migrants could be granted asylum in the UK as the Government attempts to clear the backlog of claims waiting to be dealt with.
The Refugee Council estimates the number of asylum applications waiting to be determined could stand at 118,063 in January now Labour has scrapped plans to send migrants to Rwanda and started processing claims again.
Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer discusses the story with chief political writer at Spiked Brendan O’Neill.
Julia says it's not bigoted for people to not want the character and culture of the UK to change "beyond recognition" with mass migration.

A thought..... the population of our country is accused of being bigoted and racist, so why not use those comments to our advantage. I am 49. Lived abroad previously, we are British. Moved back to the UK 10 years ago. WORST THING I EVER DID. I have 2 children, one about to go to uni to study Physics, another to study medicine. BOTH intend to do so abroad. Both adamant they will NEVER LIVE IN THE UK AGAIN NOR WILL I CANNOT WAIT TO LEAVE.

These 62,000 migrants will likely replace the most vulnerable of our elderly British citizens who may die this Winter due to withdrawal of the Winter Fuel Allowance, thus avoiding an increase of the population in the UK.

I got a letter today just to tell me I wasn’t entitled to the winter fuel allowance anymore, can you believe that!! No need to waste paper and a stamp to tell me something I already know. But never mind the 2 pounds over the limit will nearly buy me a packet of mints to help keep me warm. The main thing is these poor young migrant men will be warm and well fed..
The fact the illegals will be fine this winter really grates. It seems we have to bear the unbearable.
It's annoying.....the government will encourage those in need of warmth to buy fisherman's friends to keep warm.

The changes are due to large numbers of people whose behaviour is markedly different from previous generations. This is not and could not possibly be the influence of a small group - it's a huge majority - or it would not work or even be an observed characteristic that could be studied by statisticians.

If you go to Italy,or any of the European countries you go to experience the culture of that Country which comes from their history,who they are as a people.Why is it such a problem for some to except the same about Britain? I would say that (for instance) it could easily be argued that cultural elements that are disappearing (such as going out and drinking) were always pathological and could not possibly be sustained under any ideology, not just neoliberalism - after all, how would you finance something which is hugely damaging to health and generates enormous extra costs throughout society in so many ways?
